Your Travel Guide to Baguio City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Baguio City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Baguio City from Manila is a popular route for many Filipinos seeking a cooler climate. The most common and economical method is by bus. Several bus companies operate daily trips from terminals in Cubao and Pasay. Expect fares to range from approximately PHP 500 to PHP 900 for a one-way ticket, with travel time averaging between 6 to 8 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

For those looking for a faster, though more expensive, option, you can book flight to Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga, which is about a 2-3 hour drive from Baguio. From Clark, you can then take a bus or arrange for private transport to Baguio. Alternatively, you can fly into Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) and proceed with a bus journey. Booking your flight in advance can often secure better fares.

Driving your own vehicle is also an option, offering flexibility. The primary route involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) before connecting to the TPLEX and finally the Aspiras-Palispis Highway (formerly Marcos Highway) or Kennon Road to reach Baguio. Toll fees can add up, so factor this into your budget.

Best Time to Visit Baguio City

Baguio City experiences a generally cool climate year-round, but the best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is consistently pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 15 to 23 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city. The months of December to February are particularly popular due to the Christmas season and the Panagbenga Festival.

The period from June to October marks Baguio's wet season, characterized by frequent rainfall and occasional typhoons. While the city can still be enjoyed during this time, especially if you prefer fewer crowds and lush greenery, it's advisable to pack rain gear and be prepared for potential travel disruptions. Traveling during the shoulder months, like late May or early November, can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer tourists.

Food and Dining Near Baguio City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Baguio is complete without indulging in its unique culinary offerings. Strawberries are a signature produce of the region, and you must try strawberry taho, a warm silken tofu dessert mixed with brown sugar syrup and sago, often topped with fresh strawberries. You can find vendors selling this delightful treat throughout the city, especially near tourist spots.

Another local favorite is the Baguio longganisa, a sweet and garlicky sausage that’s a staple for breakfast. Many local eateries and even the public market offer this delicious sausage, perfect with garlic fried rice and a fried egg. For a heartier meal, try the Pinikpikan, a traditional Cordilleran dish made with chicken or pork, often prepared by beating the meat to tenderize it and then stewing it with vegetables like etag (smoked pork).

For those with a sweet tooth, Ube jam and other ube-based products are a must-try. Baguio is known for its rich, creamy ube halaya and pastries. You can find these in local pasalubong shops and bakeries. Don't forget to sample the local coffee, which is grown in the Cordillera region and offers a distinct, robust flavor that perfectly complements the cool mountain air.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Baguio City

Baguio City is known for its friendly locals and a culture that blends indigenous Cordilleran traditions with modern influences. When interacting with residents, politeness and respect are key. A simple "Magandang umaga/hapon/gabi" (Good morning/afternoon/evening) goes a long way. Be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas and accommodations, to respect the peace of others.

Safety in Baguio is generally good, but like any urban center, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded places like the public market or bus terminals. It’s advisable to stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. In case of emergencies, local police can be reached at 911.

For seamless travel, consider downloading essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for finding your way around. Ride-hailing apps can be useful for getting around, though jeepneys and taxis are also readily available and affordable. For booking accommodations and attractions, the Traveloka app is a convenient tool to have on your phone, allowing you to manage your bookings on the go.

Pros: Clean and good room. Provided new towels and blankets. CR has bidet and heater. The heat needed to open the heat before the shower in the shower. Accommodating and sometimes even having a place owner. The place is worth it for the price. It is also not strictly the time of the owner but does not abuse. Cons: Quite far from Burnham Park. It's a bit hard to find with google maps. Just be patient in search. Just next to La Trinidad Terminal is the building. La Trinidad Terminal sail to the Valley of Colors and Bell Church.

931 pesos per night is not worthy! 4th floor no elevator, no cctv, front desk is not 24hrs. Early check in is charge php600 not allowed to wait in their so called "common areas" we arrived at 1am no front desk attended us we need to wait and call them many times, they said our check.in time is 1pm which is okay but then they didn't allowed us to wait in the living area because they want us to pay the 600 and to think it is so cold outside, they said we can leave our bags but there is no cctv and no guards we didn't trust the area, we leave the premises bringing our luggages taking the stairs with no any assistance from them! We didn't stay there we found a hotel which is 1,000 per night and it is a great one the name is j 3 lodge located at lower bonifacio adivay building! And room floor area is only 6 square meters so for 931 pesos per day is really overpricing! So if you guys plan to stay here I warn you don't throw your money to this accommodation it will never be worthy! If you won't believe see it for yourself i'll assure you'll regret it!
