Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers, the journey to Boracay Island typically begins with a flight from Manila, Cebu, or Davao. The most convenient airport for Boracay is Caticlan Airport (MPH), which is just a short land and sea transfer away from the island.

Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific operate frequent flights from Manila to Caticlan, with travel times around 1 hour and fares generally ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on booking time and promotions. Kalibo International Airport (KLO) is another option, often offering cheaper flights, but it requires a longer bus or van transfer (about 1.5 to 2 hours) to reach the Caticlan Jetty Port.

Booking your book flight tickets well in advance is highly recommended to secure better prices.

Alternatively, for those who prefer a more overland journey or are looking for budget-friendly options, bus travel is available from major cities like Manila. Buses depart from terminals in Pasay or Cubao, heading towards Caticlan. This is a significantly longer journey, typically taking around 10 to 14 hours, and fares usually range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 2,500 for a one-way ticket.

This option is best suited for travelers who have ample time and wish to see more of the country en route. From the bus terminal in Caticlan, you will then proceed to the Caticlan Jetty Port for the boat transfer to Boracay Island.

For travelers coming from nearby provinces or those who prefer to drive their own vehicle, the journey involves driving to Caticlan in Aklan. Major highways connect Luzon and Visayas, and the route will involve ferry crossings if coming from Luzon. The driving time from Manila can be extensive, easily exceeding 12 hours, and will include toll fees.

Once you reach Caticlan, you will park your vehicle at designated parking areas near the jetty port before taking the boat to Boracay Island. This option offers flexibility but requires careful planning regarding ferry schedules and road conditions.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

Boracay Island experiences two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, generally from November to May, is considered the peak tourist season. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calm seas, and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for beach activities, water sports, and simply enjoying the island’s natural beauty. The period between November and February is particularly popular due to the cooler, drier weather.

This is the time when the island is most alive with visitors, offering a vibrant atmosphere.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rainfall and stronger winds. While there can be periods of sunshine, you should be prepared for potential rain showers, which can sometimes affect outdoor activities. However, the wet season also means fewer crowds and potentially lower prices for accommodation and flights, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers or those who prefer a more tranquil experience.

The months of June and July can still offer good beach weather interspersed with rain, while September and October can see more consistent rainfall as the season progresses. For a balance of good weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of November and May can be excellent choices.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Boracay Island is complete without indulging in the local culinary scene, and Filipino travelers have a particular appreciation for authentic flavors. One dish you absolutely must try is **Kinilaw**, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh, raw fish (often tuna or tanigue) is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, offering a tangy and refreshing taste that is perfect for the tropical climate.

You'll find excellent versions at local eateries and even some beachfront restaurants, often served with a side of calamansi for an extra citrus kick.

Another local favorite that embodies the spirit of Filipino comfort food is **La Paz Batchoy**. While originating from Iloilo, this hearty noodle soup, made with pork, pork cracklings, and a rich, flavorful broth, is a staple in many eateries across the Visayas, including Boracay. It’s a warming and satisfying dish, especially after a day spent swimming or exploring. Look for smaller, local carinderias for an authentic and affordable taste.

For seafood lovers, **Grilled Liempo** (pork belly) is a must. Marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, calamansi, garlic, and pepper, then grilled to perfection, it offers a smoky, savory, and slightly sweet flavor profile. It’s often served with a side of rice and a dipping sauce of soy sauce and vinegar. Many beachfront establishments and local markets offer this delicious barbecue staple.

Don't leave Boracay without trying **Halo-Halo**, a fitting choice for Filipino dessert. This colorful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream is a delightful treat that offers a symphony of textures and flavors. It’s the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth. You can find it everywhere, from popular cafes to street vendors, each offering their own unique twist.

Finally, for a taste of fresh catch, seek out restaurants that offer **Sinigang na Isda** (fish in sour broth). Using local fish and tamarind broth, this soup is both comforting and invigorating. The sourness of the tamarind broth, combined with fresh vegetables like kangkong and tomatoes, creates a uniquely Filipino flavor that is both healthy and delicious. Many restaurants along White Beach will have this on their menu, showcasing the day's freshest catch.

Staff are accommodating and the room is clean with toiletries. Highly recommended. My friends and I had an amazing experience. This is not a crowded place like Station 2.

The location of the hotel is great, it is just a few steps away from the beach. The staff are generally friendly and ready to serve your needs. I just have a few comments: 1. I asked for some extra ice to be sent to the room and I was surprised to be told that I will be charged 100 pesos. Such simple requests or needs should be free of charge. 2. The breakfast is of poor quality. It should heave more choices and should consist of international cuisine as many of the guests are also foreigners. Even Filipino guests expect something more special.

We booked 2 rooms, but the one on the third floor had a strong cat urine smell coming from the chair. I also hope you could put brighter white light rather than warm light to avoid a creepy atmosphere on the 3rd floor. The room on the 2nd floor was much better. Overall, our stay was okay, with clean bedsheets and complete set of toiletries. It also has convenient mini grocery store below the building. Great location, just a 1-minute walk to the beach.

The hotel is near the White Beach so the location is good. Upon arrival to the hotel they made us wait several minutes before they assist us in our room which has negative effect on us. For the breakfast food, you get what you paid for. The menu was mediocre. I think, I will look for other hotels next time I visit Boracay.

The room is very crowded and madame is a cockroach. There are no elevators, the other room set up is residential. It's like you're not in a hotel anymore though the service is good front desk and helpers are very nice.

Pros: - location is awesome, few steps to the beach. - they do make up your room. - airconditioned & hot/cold water is superb. - mineral water, coffee & kettle available in d room. Cons: 1. When booked we already indicated our special request since we are checking out so early because of our flight schedule but the whole process is quite annoying! Their staff should be trained about the services they are offering specially if they are using a marketing platform like Traveloka! We are pass on to one staff to the other but no one really take care of our concern which is the breakfast included on our last day! One said, breakfast is complimentary only (in short free!) but my goodness why is that the room rates for "with" or "without" breakfast differs? One said that they can offer a packed sandwich instead of a plated breakfast since pantry opens at 7am and we are checking out at 5am! Ending? No breakfast at all even though we paid for that! 2. The two guy on duty on Nov. 2, 2022 at around 4-5am needs to be train, while we still on room they keep on calling "check out na po akala q po b 4:30 mag 5am na?" Really? We can check out even at 12nn we paid until that time. Then the guy who checked our room for check-out won't even greet you good morning or hi, not even a fake smile duuh! The other one in the lobby just watching us carry our heavy luggage. This place is awesome but the staff should be replace. Not sure if we are coming back if the management stays the same

The room is big and clean, really nice place to stay. Their service was impeccable, you can have your breakfast in your room as well just ask for room service. They clean your room everyday and give you new bottled water. Beach is just right there you can count your steps.🖒

This hotel is nice, it's just that the building where we stayed in was stairs all the way, if we would have stayed here with my parents, they would have a hard time going up and down from ground floor to 4th floor. They only have an elevator for the main building, hopefully they would have either a connecting passage or an elevator too. its location is good in case they have no other way but steep stairs. He is not friendly especially when you are with your family. they have an elevator but just in the main building so what about the 4th floor. we were always tired of the high stairs.

Location of the Hotel is Amazing, Friendly Staff from Front Office to F & B staff. Very well Accommodating Staff. Friendly Suggestion since I am as well working on the same Industry. 1. When the Guest asked for 2nd Round of Coffee or Juice never tell them its Chargeable it will spoil their breakfast and their day. You Have a Policy of 1 Round Drink for breakfast if its Fresh Juices or Freshly Brewed Coffee I can understand for a 3 star Hotel. I was informed on the 2nd Breakfast for the chargeable for 2nd round of drink. 2. Make sure the Room is clean when the HK will make the room vacant ready but its not ready due to dust and under the bed. it looks clean though. Service was fine staff are friendly but the Restaurant Policy hmm. Paying Attention to details has a big impact for the guest. hopefully the don't forget to Smile.

Courteous & helpful staff except the old guy duty last sat night (june 1) around 8:30pm, we were about to get another beach towel (our 3rd towel for the said day)however he so rude, asking & shouting the recep on duty if we were still allowed to get 1.so annoying. My husband so upset how the staff talked to him.fyi we booked a deluxe double room no view (annex) with breakfast.max of 4 guests.
