Good resort with a sustainable and ecological approach
Begin March, I spent 5 nights in a deluxe bungalow. The room has a bamboo style furniture with a big terrace. As toiletries, you receive soap and shampoo in a dispenser. The air conditioner is very good and you have a hair dryer, a fridge, a small safe with a key.
I arrived at 9 pm after a three-hour ride from Cebu airport. The gate was closed but there is a interphone to contact the guard. Indeed, the reception and the restaurant were already closed at 9 pm but one member of the staff came and a small intention was waiting for us in our room.
The buffet breakfast (7 am - 10 am) was good and consists of: 7 hot dishes (brown/fried rice, fried noodles, different style of eggs, fish, plain Filipino pancakes, bacon, sausages or Tocino),
Fresh fruit (banana, pineapple, mango, watermelon), bread, croissant, cold cuts, tomato salad, butter, jam, yoghurt, honey, mixed muesli, pineapple and mango juice, fresh calamari juice, tea, and coffee.
If you want to eat, the best solution is to have the half or full board. During the breakfast, you must choose among 3 dishes for your lunch and among 6 dishes for the evening. This is a set menu with an appetizer and a dessert. People who didn't book the half or full board, they can have the set menu for 450 pesos for lunch and 910 pesos for the dinner. For the dinner, they can take only the main course for 600 pesos. You have three other solutions: to go to Panagsama beach but the price for the tricycle is 500 pesos (return) at night. You have also two bars in front the hotel and in one of them you can order the previous day one main course (very limited choice) or to go to the next resort but the food at Dolphin House is delicious.
The snorkelling was just in front of the hotel with two concrete paths to enter the sea without damaging the coral. You have to go far from the reef to see nice coral and there are not many fishes.
There was some current, I came back by the beach but I had sea shoes. By the way, the beach is not very impressive and many families spent their weekend camping on the beach. There are no restaurants on the beach. There are two marine biologists in the hotel and they give lectures on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5 to 6 pm.
You can attend three times a week the yoga lessons with Marion on the balcony of the common area with the beautiful view on the ocean.
I would appreciate to have bikes to visit the surroundings of the resort.
If you want to rest, you can go around the swimming pool (15 sunbeds, one table and two tea houses) or to the covered pavilion in the sea or along the hotel with the sea view on the ocean (21 sunbeds, two tea houses).
Unfortunately, I have to say that, compared to other similar resorts we stayed, their prices are higher and the service, the room (quality of the sheets, blanket, towels, safe), the grounds, the staff were better in these other resorts but Dolphin House has the best infrastructure for divers that I Have ever had and the food was tastier.
Some practical information
If you want to see the sardine run, you have to take a tricycle to go to Panagsama (250 pesos for a return).
For my transfers, I booked everything in advance because it was my first trip in this area but it is very easy to find a transfer at Cebu airport and the price should be around 2400 pesos.
The temperature was 30 degrees, 28 degrees at night, 26 degrees for the sea water and 28 degrees for the swimming pool. The weather was sunny except my two last days.
The sunrise was 6:15 am and the sunset at 6:00 pm. It was completely dark at 6:20 pm (begin March).
Be careful if you travel with Cebu Pacific airlines because all my flights had a delay between 30 to 120 minutes.
Don't forget that you have to pay fees like pier fees (15 pesos at Dumaguete pier), marine fees (depending the place between 100 and 500 pesos), terminal fees (150 pesos for Dumaguete airport, 750 pesos for an international flight from Cebu but nothing for a domestic flight from Cebu. The fees are included in your ticket when you leave from Manilla airport for a domestic or an international flight).
Over all I had a nice stay but I think is a little over priced but I will return to this resort with its 28 rooms. I was also impressed by the small attention upon departure.
