Stayed here for 3 nights 4 days and My husband and I had a great time. Although, I wouldn’t stay here longer than that. There’s no planned activities during the day and we kinda got bored on the 3rd day. It’s about an hour boat ride from the main land so you need to pretty much eat and chill on the resort. Food was great and they were very accommodating to all our needs. The spa was amazing and I got the best massage there. Wish they had a gym or planned activities during the day. Connection isn’t that great and only worked near the reception area. I felt really bad for the other restaurant staff cause I generally would tip a lot and there was this was staff member that kept taking over our table even though we were first served by someone else. The bartenders were all nice and were really good at their job. Better than bartenders I see here in Canada. Overall the stay was great and would take the kids here next time.

A very good place for a getaway from the busy city life, especially with family. Though the internet did not work well and no TV, there but it was indeed a good option for a retreat, with easy access to the beach and pools, with assorted recreation activities. Even there was an art house where the artist taught kids to create sand art. Very friendly and nice staff. One of the best experience!

Your Travel Guide to Puerto Princesa as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Princesa from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way for Filipino travelers to reach Puerto Princesa is by air. Major airlines operate regular flights from Manila (MNL) and other key cities like Cebu (CEB) to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). You can book flight tickets, with fares often ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

For those who prefer a more economical, albeit significantly longer, journey, bus travel is an option. Buses depart from terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao or Pasay, heading to Puerto Princesa. This trip can take anywhere from 10 to 12 hours, and ticket prices typically range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 2,500. This option is best suited for travelers with ample time and a desire to see more of the Philippine landscape.

While driving your own vehicle is possible, it involves a very long journey, including ferry crossings if you are coming from Luzon. This is generally not recommended for most travelers due to the time and logistical challenges involved. For most visitors, flying remains the most practical and time-efficient method to reach the beautiful island of Palawan.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Princesa

The ideal time to visit Puerto Princesa is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, perfect for island hopping, beach activities, and exploring the natural attractions. The weather is typically warm and pleasant, making it comfortable for outdoor excursions.

The period between December and February is often considered the peak tourist season, offering the most stable weather conditions. However, it also means higher prices and larger crowds. For a good balance of favorable weather and fewer tourists, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, or April.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can sometimes be heavy. While this period might see fewer visitors and potentially lower prices, it can also lead to disruptions in travel plans, especially for boat tours and island hopping due to sea conditions. If you don't mind the possibility of rain showers, visiting during this time can still be rewarding, with lush green landscapes and a more tranquil atmosphere.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Princesa — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Puerto Princesa is complete without indulging in the local cuisine. A must-try is the **Kinilaw**, a Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is cured in vinegar, spiced with ginger, onions, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly captures the taste of the sea. You can find excellent Kinilaw in many local eateries and restaurants.

Another local specialty is **Tamilok**, a type of woodworm harvested from mangrove trees and typically served fresh, often dipped in vinegar or soy sauce. While it might sound unusual, it's a delicacy that many adventurous eaters seek out. Its briny, slightly sweet flavor is quite distinct and a true taste of Palawan's unique offerings.

For seafood lovers, grilled fish and other marine delights are abundant. Puerto Princesa is known for its fresh catch, often prepared simply by grilling over charcoal to highlight the natural flavors. Look for restaurants that offer a variety of grilled seafood, from squid to various types of fish, often served with rice and local condiments.

Don't forget to try **Lato**, a type of seaweed that resembles tiny green grapes. It has a unique crunchy texture and a fresh, oceanic taste, usually served as a salad with tomatoes and onions, dressed with vinegar. It’s a healthy and delicious side dish that complements the other flavors of Filipino cuisine.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa is known for its friendly locals and generally relaxed pace of life. Filipinos are generally hospitable, and a simple "Mabuhay" (welcome) or "Salamat" (thank you) goes a long way. It's respectful to dress modestly when visiting religious sites like the Iglesia Ni Cristo. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service.

Safety in Puerto Princesa is generally good, but like any travel destination, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure, especially in crowded areas or markets. Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact details of your hotel readily accessible.

For your convenience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigation. Ride-hailing apps might be available for local transport, though tricycles are the most common mode of getting around the city. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter phrases you don't understand, though English is widely spoken in tourist areas. Lastly, a weather app can help you plan your daily activities around potential rain showers.

We've been here before so we already knew that the rooms are worn, that there's no WiFi in the room (and in the public areas where there is - it's poor), that the grounds need more attention, and that the public restrooms near the sports desk are disgusting. The boats are also awful, with uncomfortable plastic benches. We returned anyway because the view is spectacular, the pools are fantastic, and the food at the restaurant is OK and reasonably-priced. Having no other such island resort option near PP, we'll likely be back.

VERY very worn-out rooms. No view from the room as the windows are frosted. Aircon is incredibly old and noisy. This being said, we did not expect an amazing room and came mainly for the beach and wildlife. The wildlife was amazing, with baby sharks swimming in the lagoon and a huge mangrove that was a nursery for stingrays and probably many other creatures. Snorkelling is great to the right of the pier (ie. not in the designated snorkelling area!). The beach was not good, it gets muddy as soon as you step in the water and many weeds - there is no clean sandy lagoon to swim in. Sand is nice out of the water but the beach area is quite small since most of the shoreline is covered with mangrove. Overall, expensive for Philippines.

The resort grounds are very nice and well kept. Nice beach and pool. The room is 3-star quality. The restaurant is ugly, the food is OK, excellent free coffee. The restrooms near the marine activities desk are gross: dirty, dilapidated and smelly. The boat used to transfer from the wharf to the island is an uncomfortable experience: old, crowded, plastic benches. The free snorkeling trip was fun, we found Nemo. WiFi was very spotty, more off than on, but cellular reception was everywhere and LTE data worked just fine. Nice for a quick weekend break; no more than a couple of nights.

This property has to be reviewed in context of the price it charges which is extremely competitive. The free shuttle from airport to wharf and then boat transfer to Sos Palmas were highly efficient. The resort is very beautiful and the high light was a gorgeous coral reef several hundred metres from the resort which provides half hourly free boat ride to a permanent pontoon. Spent a couple of hours snorkeling every day there. There is a free boat transfer to an uninhabited island nearby with sand bars worth doing once. The restaurant has excellent food choices and the buffet is fabulous with different food types ever night. Highly recommended. Beersare very reasonable at 90 pesos each. The large swimming pool in front of restaurant is gorgeous. There should be more shades around the pool eg umbrellas. The villas are large though relatively basic and they turn electricity off twice a day am and pm so be sure to turn aircon on again as the room gets heated up quite quickly and even at full blast it never goes below 24 C which is comfortable enough. All the staffs were polite and helpful. Overall we had a fantastic time and would definitely come back!

We stayed for 3 nights. Really helpful staff when it came to organising transport to Honda Bay and the boat to the island. The boat ride was rough on the way to the island but very calm on the way back. I would recommend sea sickness tablets if you get travel sick. All the staff on the island are really friendly especially Janus who always looked after us at every meal. We went snorkeling every day and the equipment provided is in good condition. The rooms are clean and aircon works well.

It was average but the staff were friendly and courteous. Improve on food choices. It's an island and they don't serve grilled seafood. No WiFi and TV in the rooms! Bring your own entertainment gadgets.

We liked the friendly resort staff and good communication with the front office, the main beach, sunsets, views of Palawan and other islands, kayaking, the main pool, some of the food for vegans. We did not like that some resort staff could not speak English, plastic and other trash just lying around and low level of cleanliness in general, lazy attitude of some resort staff, there was no gym, no internet connection and no TV in rooms, very limited menu for lunch and dinner if you’re vegan.
