The cottages were quaint, loved the breakfasts, notes and origami's that the staff made daily.

I stayed here for 5 nights and love the peace and quiet, pool largely to myself and friendly staff. It is a basic hotel and not everything is perfect but it is good enough for El Nido if you don’t want to pay for an expensive eco resort type stay. Air con is good (a bit noisy though). WiFi is mostly reliable and good enough but you need to be near the beach bar or in public spaces. Breakfast is ok - limited options but I’m happy enough with eggs cooked to my liking and fruit juice each morning. They don’t serve lunch or dinner but Town is only a short beach walk away so it isn’t a major problem. The best thing is that it is away from the business of the town! and the view across the bay is awesome.

We had a great stay. The location is perfect. You’re in the water and have a pool. You’re also close to the town center so you can easily walk around and try all the restaurants. They also helped us book a island hopping tour which was great as well.

Your Travel Guide to El Nido as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to El Nido from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most common and convenient way to reach El Nido from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Several airlines operate flights to El Nido Airport (ENI) or the larger Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Flights from Manila to El Nido typically take around 1 hour and 15 minutes. If flying into Puerto Princesa, the flight duration is similar, but you will then need to take a land transfer. Booking your book flight tickets in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak travel seasons, to secure better prices.

From Puerto Princesa, the journey to El Nido is usually made via van or bus. These transfers depart from designated terminals in Puerto Princesa and take approximately 5 to 6 hours to reach El Nido town. The cost for these land transfers typically ranges from PHP 500 to PHP 800 per person, depending on the operator and type of service. While this is a longer travel time, it offers a more economical option for reaching Palawan's northern well-regarded property.

For those who prefer a more adventurous route or are traveling from nearby islands, ferry services might be available, though less common for direct travel from major hubs like Manila. Driving your own vehicle is possible if you are coming from Palawan's southern areas, but it's a very long journey from Luzon. For most Filipino travelers, flying into either El Nido or Puerto Princesa and then taking a van is the most practical approach.

Best Time to Visit El Nido

The ideal time to visit El Nido for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to May. Within this period, the months of March to May are particularly favorable, offering the clearest skies and calmest seas, perfect for island hopping and water activities. The weather is typically sunny with minimal rainfall, allowing you to fully enjoy the stunning beaches and lagoons.

The shoulder months, such as November and February, can also be excellent times to visit. You might experience slightly fewer crowds compared to the peak months of March to May, and the weather is generally still very good. The wet season, from June to October, sees more rainfall and potentially rougher seas, which can sometimes lead to tour cancellations. While it's the off-peak season and accommodation might be cheaper, the unpredictable weather can impact your ability to fully experience El Nido's outdoor attractions.

Food and Dining Near El Nido — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

El Nido offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects the Philippines' rich gastronomic heritage, with a focus on fresh seafood. When you visit, be sure to try Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Freshly caught fish is marinated in vinegar, calamansi juice, onions, ginger, and chili, creating a tangy and refreshing appetizer that perfectly complements the tropical climate. Many local eateries and restaurants in El Nido town serve excellent Kinilaw.

Another must-try is La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo. While El Nido is known for seafood, this comforting soup, made with pork, pork cracklings, and various vegetables, offers a different kind of deliciousness. It’s a perfect dish for a cooler evening or when you crave something warm and satisfying. You can find authentic La Paz Batchoy in local carinderias around town.

Grilled seafood is a staple in El Nido, and for good reason. Freshly caught fish, squid, prawns, and even lobster are often grilled to perfection over charcoal. The simplicity of the preparation allows the natural flavors of the seafood to shine through, often served with a side of soy sauce, calamansi, and chili. Many beachfront restaurants offer an array of grilled options, allowing you to pick your catch of the day.

For a taste of local snacks and desserts, look for Halo-Halo, the ultimate Filipino summer treat. This popular dessert is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a perfect way to cool down and indulge your sweet tooth after a day of exploring. You'll find various versions of Halo-Halo at local eateries and dessert stalls throughout El Nido.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for El Nido

Filipino culture in El Nido is characterized by warmth, hospitality, and a deep respect for nature. When interacting with locals, a friendly greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) goes a long way. It's customary to be polite and respectful, especially when visiting churches or interacting with elders. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service. Remember that El Nido is a community that relies heavily on tourism, so supporting local businesses is encouraged.

Safety in El Nido is generally good, but like any tourist destination, it's wise to take precautions. Always keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. When swimming, pay attention to local warnings about currents or safe swimming zones. For any emergencies, the local police can be reached at their station in Poblacion. It's also a good idea to have the contact number for your accommodation readily available.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application, such as Google Maps, is crucial for navigation, especially if you plan to explore independently. The room was spotless and loved their amenities. The only con I have is the hot water - there’s no cold water so whenever we shower it’s so quick because it’s burning our skin. Also the elevator wasn’t working for 2 days :/

Had a cottage room by the pool. The room was good, not great. It's dark and the beds are hard, and the bathroom was pretty dark and somehow let some Mosquitoes in (like 1-2 per day). Overall a great place to crash for a few nights. To pool is amazing, and a great was to end the day, or relax during a chill day. No other property has a pool with a view of the beach like that. Watching the sunset from the pool with some happy hour cocktails can't be beat.

Great hotel located right on the beach front with villa overlooking the pool and the beach. It can get a bit noisy if you are in the front villas as there is a small road for the trikes on the beach but most of the time it is not too bad. Lots to see and do and people watch. Room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Good AC as well.

We liked that it was away from the hustle of the city, however there was construction going on all day and into the early hours of the night (like 2am some nights).

Really nice pool. Nice cabanas. We had beach front cabana which was a little noisy with motorbikes going by on the beach. Very nice overall.

Really nice place for a couple of nights. On the end of the beach in El Nido so away from the hustle and bustle. Unfortunately the beach front is full of trash, construction aftermath and piping which is a little dangerous walking through to the nicer parts of the beach. WiFi didn’t reach our room and the breakfast could be improved. Overall the rooms are great, very comfy bed and a lovely pool front.

Great hotel. Perfect location at the end of the Main Street so you can relax and be out of the busiest areas, but still walk to all the restaurants and tours. On the beach, in fact we usually walked the beach to get around because it was easier than the street. Nice pool with lounge chairs. Great WiFi. Good breakfast with eggs to order. Front desk was very helpful with all our questions.

El Nido is just amazing & the hotel is in great location at the bottom end of town, out the way so it’s quiet yet still only a minutes work before you start reaching all the bars & restaurants. The view from the pool is incredible, although there was some building work going on at the time, this was not a major inconvenience. The staff were really helpful with everything in booking any tours or transport we needed

The hotel is in need of refurbishment. The staff are very nice and helpful. The bed was very lumpy and creaked. They also locked the gates which at the time was the only real entrance at 11pm without telling us meaning we had to climb over a partially constructed wall facing the beach to get in at night.

The room was spotless and loved their amenities. The only con I have is the hot water - there’s no cold water so whenever we shower it’s so quick because it’s burning our skin. Also the elevator wasn’t working for 2 days :/
