What Guests Say About Their Stay

I was very impressed with the hotel. The building is conveniently located close to Fuente circle. There are shops and restaurants downstairs. There is a great pool and well equipped gym. The view was amazing, looking towards Ayala with a view of the port area too. The room is a good size. There was even a small kitchen area with sink and kettle. Drinking water was available free of charge and room service is offered. The price of the room was competitive and good value. My only complaints would be the noisy air conditioning and low water pressure. I would recommend staying here and I will definitely return.

Your Travel Guide to Cebu City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Cebu City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers coming from Manila or other major islands, flying is the most efficient way to reach Cebu City. Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) serves as the primary gateway. Major local carriers like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia Philippines operate frequent flights from Manila (MNL) to CEB. Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but expect prices to range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip if booked strategically. You can easily book flight tickets on Traveloka for competitive rates.

If you prefer land and sea travel, you can take a bus from Manila to a southern port like Batangas or Lucena, then a ferry to Cebu. This is a much longer journey, often taking 24 hours or more, and is generally more economical for those on a very tight budget or who enjoy extended travel. Bus fares to the port can range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,000, and ferry tickets can vary from PHP 1,500 to PHP 3,000 depending on the class. This option is less common for quick trips but offers a different travel experience.

From other Visayas cities like Iloilo or Bacolod, ferry services are a popular and practical option. Ferries depart regularly from these cities to Cebu City's port. The travel time can range from 3 to 12 hours, depending on the origin city and the type of vessel. This mode of transport is often more scenic and allows for a more relaxed journey. For travelers coming from Mindanao, such as Cagayan de Oro or Davao, ferries are also a viable option, with journey times varying accordingly.

Best Time to Visit Cebu City

Cebu City enjoys a tropical climate, meaning it's generally warm and humid throughout the year. The best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from December to May. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the city's outdoor attractions, historical sites, and nearby beaches. The cooler months within this period, from December to February, are particularly pleasant, with average temperatures slightly lower than the peak summer months.

The wet season, from June to November, brings with it higher chances of rain, often in the form of short, intense downpours, though extended periods of rain can also occur. While this season might deter some from outdoor activities, it also means fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. If you don't mind the occasional shower and are looking for a more budget-friendly trip, visiting during the wet season can still be a rewarding experience. Just be sure to pack an umbrella and waterproof gear.

Food and Dining Near Cebu City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Cebu is complete without indulging in its culinary delights. A must-try is the famous Cebu Lechon, often hailed as the best in the Philippines. Unlike other versions, Cebu Lechon is typically roasted with a simpler blend of salt and herbs, allowing the natural flavor of the pork to shine through. You can find excellent Lechon stalls and restaurants all over Cebu City, with many locals recommending CNT Lechon or Rico's Lechon for an authentic taste.

Another local specialty is Kinilaw, Cebu's version of ceviche. Fresh, raw fish, usually tuna or tanigue, is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. The acidity of the vinegar "cooks" the fish, resulting in a tangy and refreshing dish that is perfect for the tropical climate. Many seafood restaurants and even carinderias offer Kinilaw, providing a delicious and authentic taste of Cebuano cuisine. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly complements the local fare.

For those with a sweet tooth, try the Rosquillos, a type of cookie originating from Liloan, Cebu. These ring-shaped biscuits are made from flour, eggs, sugar, and butter, and have a slightly sweet, crunchy texture. They are often enjoyed with coffee or as a simple snack. You can find Rosquillos in local bakeries and souvenir shops throughout Cebu City, making them an easy and delightful treat to bring home or enjoy during your stay.

Finally, don't leave Cebu without trying Puto Maya and Sikwate. Puto Maya is a sticky rice cake, often served steamed and wrapped in banana leaves, while Sikwate is a rich, hot chocolate drink made from locally grown cacao beans. This traditional Cebuano breakfast is a delightful combination of textures and flavors, offering a warm and comforting start to your day. Many local eateries and cafes serve this classic pairing, especially in the early mornings.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Cebu City

Cebuano culture is known for its hospitality and strong sense of community. Filipinos are generally warm and welcoming, and it's polite to greet locals with a smile and a friendly "Maayong adlaw" (Good day). While English is widely spoken, learning a few basic Cebuano phrases can be appreciated. Respect local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting churches and being mindful of noise levels in residential areas.

When it comes to safety, Cebu City is generally safe for tourists, but it's always wise to exercise caution. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places like markets and bus terminals, to avoid petty theft. It's advisable to keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers of your hotel and the local police readily accessible.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. Google Maps is indispensable for navigation, helping you find your way around the city and locate points of interest. Grab is the go-to app for ride-hailing services, offering a convenient and often more affordable alternative to taxis. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by locals. Having these apps on your smartphone will make getting around and staying connected much easier during your visit.

I liked that the hotel was connected to a mall. So grabbing breakfast in morning was super convenient and it also had a grocery store in the basement which was nice. I never went up the escalator to see what was on the upper level though. The staff was very nice as well. I went with friends and two of us had little bugs like maybe ants in our room. The shower wand handle was broken and water drainage in shower and sink weren’t up to par. Decent for price I suppose but would look for something else if I came back to Cebu.

The Front Desk Supervisor or Manager scolded her colleague in front of me. She should not be doing that in front of a customer. Overall, the place was clean, affordable and quick service response. I would recommend this place.

I booked a room for twin bed good for fax. They have confirmed my resewrvation. What was given to us is a small room with two double deck beds I suggest the CR will be equipped with a bidet hose to save tissue paper and for sanitary purposes

Terrible place to stay. Loudest exercise air conditioner, that blasted mouldy smelling air. No amenities, not even soap. Smallest possible bathroom. Foul smell from sink. No fridge. Very noisy, lift beeps herd in room every 5 sec. Street noise too. Staff not helpful, very week Internet. Booked 4 notes stayed 2, it was so bad. Much better hotel Cebu hotel plus just up road that's clean, nice and quiet. Recommend you do not stay here.

Good location - near some shopping malls and easy to other places in the town. Hotel is very clean, quiet and good service. Supermarket and some restaurants are in the same building - very convenient. Room view and swimming pool are very nice. They provide toilet tissue, shampoo/shower lotion and towel only (no hair dryer). But with such reasonable rate, it is a good deal. I will stay this hotel again next time!

Lots of parking space inside the building. From the parking area you can go directly to your room through elevator without passing the lobby. It has a gym and infinity pool. The views are great. It has a food court and a mall connected to the hotel. It lacks toiletries. Even some budget hotels have toothbrush and soap.

Check in was done by kids because it’s a condo block with hotel on the side I found out it was Chinese owned so that explains everything really low standards alround the best part was the pool but the room was definitely not like the photos and I upgraded to premier room just run down in general there was a bucket in the shower to catch dripping tap the balcony was dirty and TV was a joke the cable box had 5 channels which took half a hour to find wifi was kept cutting out and was like dial up in the 90’s the staff where lovely though as for the surrounding area home everywhere drug addicted homeless beggars asking for money every couple of hundred metres was off putting even though I’m 6’2 and black belt in 2 martial arts definitely would not recommend single women or men to venture into the back street alone drop a few extra bucks on somewhere better and closer to town the whole building it old
