Filigans is perfectly located....right in the middle of everything! This little city is very busy, staying here allows you to walk to many shops, food and drinks. The staff at Filigans are great! We enjoyed our room very much. The price was perfect too! We recommend Filigans to anyone. They are located just behind the Giligans resto, not a good restaurant nor drinks. but Filigans was great....just dont eat their food as it comes from Giligans.

This is one of the great hotels that we have stayed. The place is very clean (which is the most important) and the staff are very accomodating. You can really feel the Filipino hospitality culture. They are very willing to give you help for your own comfort. I remember, we were waiting too long for the van to pick us up for the Underground River tour, and we haven’t heard anything from Klook (where we booked the tour) if we’re gonna push through or not due to the rough sea. The frontdesk has told us that their own UGR tour has been cancelled due to the condition, but to confirm with Klook, the Frontdesk has really called them to verify. Meaning, if they haven’t contacted them, we will wait there for who knows how long. And since we were also travelling to El Nido that day, they gave us big bottles of water for the long drive (awwe how thoughtful) And not to forget, they’re free shuttle from the airport is very convenient for us. I’ve only notified them when we were about to board the plane, and I was a bit hopeless that they’ll receive my message because it obviously says in their website to contact them days before our arrival to avail the free shuttle service. But voila! When we arrived at the Palawan airport, I’ve received a message that their personnel is already waiting for us. Morever, the location is great. They have their Giligans restaurant (one of my fave) just outside the hotel. Across the road are pharmacy, clubs, reastau and more. Indeed an excellent choice!

Your Travel Guide to Puerto Princesa as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Princesa from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers, the quickest and most convenient way to reach Puerto Princesa is by air. Major airlines operate regular flights from Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport - NAIA) to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but you can often find round-trip tickets ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000. Booking your book flight in advance, especially during peak seasons, is highly recommended to secure better prices.

While direct bus travel to Puerto Princesa from Manila is not feasible due to the sea crossing, you can take a bus to Batangas port and then a ferry to Puerto Princesa. This option is significantly longer, often taking 24 hours or more, and is generally chosen by those who prefer a slower pace or wish to avoid flying. Bus fares to Batangas vary, and ferry tickets can range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 3,000 depending on the class.

Driving your own vehicle to Puerto Princesa is a considerable undertaking, involving a long land and sea journey. You would typically drive from Manila to Batangas port, take a RORO (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessel that can accommodate vehicles to Puerto Princesa, and then continue driving. This journey can take over 30 hours and involves significant fuel and ferry costs. It’s an option for the adventurous traveler with ample time.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season generally runs from November to May, offering sunny days and lower humidity, making it the most popular time for tourists. During these months, you can expect pleasant weather ideal for island hopping, exploring underground rivers, and enjoying the beaches.

The wet season typically occurs from June to October. While this period sees more rainfall, the showers are often brief and followed by sunshine. Traveling during the wet season can offer a more tranquil experience with fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. However, it's advisable to check weather forecasts regularly, as heavy rains can sometimes affect travel plans or outdoor activities.

For the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or May. These periods often provide favorable conditions without the peak season influx. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Puerto Princesa offers its unique charm and attractions year-round.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Princesa — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Palawan's cuisine is a delightful reflection of its abundant marine life and local produce. A must-try dish for any Filipino traveler is fresh grilled seafood. Puerto Princesa boasts numerous restaurants and local eateries where you can savor freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns, often simply grilled to perfection and served with soy sauce, calamansi, and chili.

Another local specialty is Tamilok, a type of woodworm harvested from mangrove trees. While its appearance might be unusual, its taste is often described as briny and oyster-like. It's typically served fresh, dipped in vinegar, and is a unique culinary adventure for the daring foodie. You can often find this delicacy in local markets or specialized restaurants.

Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, is also a highlight. Prepared with fresh raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili, it’s a refreshing and flavorful dish that perfectly complements the tropical climate. Look for variations using local fish for an authentic taste of Palawan.

Don't leave Puerto Princesa without trying the local delicacies like cashew nuts. Roasted and flavored, these make for a perfect pasalubong (souvenir) and a tasty snack. Many local shops sell these, often freshly prepared. Exploring the local markets and smaller eateries will give you the most authentic taste of Puerto Princesa.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa is known for its friendly locals and generally relaxed pace of life. While the city is quite safe, it's always wise to practice standard travel precautions. Be mindful of your belongings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places late at night. The local dialect is Cuyonon, but Tagalog and English are widely understood and spoken.

Emergency numbers to keep handy include the local police at 911 (nationwide emergency number), and the Adventist Hospital Palawan at +63 48 433 2000 for medical assistance. It's also a good idea to inform someone back home about your itinerary and check in regularly. Understanding basic Filipino customs, like showing respect to elders and being polite, will enhance your interactions with locals.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A ride-hailing app like Grab can be useful for getting around the city, though tricycles are a common and affordable mode of transport. A reliable map application, such as Google Maps, is indispensable for navigating and finding your way to attractions and restaurants.

Finally, a translation app can be helpful if you plan to venture into more remote areas where English might not be as widely spoken. Having these tools at your disposal can significantly improve your travel experience, making it easier to navigate, communicate, and stay safe throughout your visit to Puerto Princesa.

Aircon doesn't work and after changing room, still no good. Limited amenities and not much available. Inside room air isn't ventilated and very bad, unhealthy. Lobby is fine. No hotel restaurant open. I left my earring at room and the one that cleaned room was suspiciously saying he didn't see.

The hotel was in a great central location and was in walking distance to many of the city attractions. The rooms were also nice and quite. Staff was friendly. My only criticism was that the floor looked a little dirty in the rooms but it might have just been old tile that gave it that grungy look. Overall pleased with our stay.

This hotel is about a 5 min drive away from the airport and is located, I'd say right in the middle of town. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. When our shower stopped working for whatever reason they moved us to a different room right away. They're wifi works on and off. They have TV in the room, ac, and bathroom with running hot water, however did not see a safety deposit box. The staff is very nice and professional. They made sure we had everything we needed and even helped me get a refund from a tour that was canceled with a different company. Great for the price.

The hotel was in a great central location and was in walking distance to many of the city attractions. The rooms were also nice and quite. Staff was friendly. My only criticism was that the floor looked a little dirty in the rooms but it might have just been old tile that gave it that grungy look. Overall pleased with our stay.

Great location. Aircon didn't work in most rooms. Had to change room twice. Tours booked through hotel were good.

Poor breakfast. Good region. Not sure if this hotel is different than the others in Puerto Princessa.

Standard room is small but clean and comfortable as hotel is still new. Service staff very friendly. Great location for nearby popular restaurants and places to visit. Gilligans resto by same owner just next door to hotel for good, value for money meals.

This is a 6-month old nearly new hotel, which is one of the nicest budget hotels I've stayed at. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, free breakfast and shuttle to airport, decent wifi, plenty of hot water, great location.
