If you are traveling with pets, you will need to make alternative arrangements for their care during your stay. Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most travelers from Manila and other major Philippine cities, flying is the most efficient way to reach Boracay Island. You can book a book flight to either Caticlan Airport (MPH) or Kalibo International Airport (KLO). Flights to Caticlan are generally more convenient as it's closer to the jetty port, with fares typically ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on the airline and booking time.

From Caticlan Airport, a short tricycle ride (around 5-10 minutes, PHP 50-100) will take you to the Caticlan Jetty Port. From there, you'll take a 15-minute boat ride to Boracay Island's Cagban Port. The boat fare is approximately PHP 50, plus environmental and terminal fees totaling around PHP 300. From Cagban Port, tricycles are readily available to take you to your accommodation, including the Grand Blue Beach Hotel, for about PHP 100-150.

If you opt for Kalibo Airport, the journey is longer. Flights to Kalibo are often cheaper, with round-trip fares sometimes as low as PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000. However, from Kalibo Airport, you'll need to take a bus or van (approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, PHP 200-300) to reach Caticlan Jetty Port before taking the boat to Boracay. This option is more budget-friendly but adds significant travel time.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

The dry season, from November to April, is generally considered the best time to visit Boracay Island. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity, making it ideal for beach activities, swimming, and water sports. The peak tourist season falls between December and February, when the weather is at its finest, but crowds and prices are also at their highest.

For travelers seeking a balance between good weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder months of November and late April to early May are excellent choices. You can still enjoy pleasant weather while experiencing a more relaxed atmosphere. The "amihan" season (northeast monsoon) brings cooler temperatures and calmer waters, perfect for enjoying the island's natural beauty.

The wet season, from May to October, is characterized by the "habagat" (southwest monsoon), which can bring occasional rain showers and stronger winds. While prices for flights and accommodation tend to be lower during this period, there's a higher chance of weather disruptions. However, even during the rainy season, Boracay often experiences periods of sunshine, and the island remains beautiful and enjoyable for many visitors.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Boracay is complete without indulging in fresh seafood. Many restaurants along White Beach offer a wide selection of grilled fish, prawns, squid, and shellfish. Look for establishments that display their catch of the day, allowing you to choose your preferred seafood and have it cooked to your liking. It’s a characteristic Filipino island dining experience.

Halo-halo, the iconic Filipino dessert, is a must-try, especially on a hot Boracay day. This refreshing concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream is a delightful treat. You can find excellent versions at local eateries and even some cafes around the island.

Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, is another local specialty that showcases the freshness of the seafood. Prepared with vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, it offers a tangy and zesty flavor profile that perfectly complements the island's tropical setting. Many restaurants serve this dish, often using locally caught fish.

For a taste of home, try some classic Filipino dishes like Adobo, Sinigang, or La Paz Batchoy. While Boracay is known for its seafood, many eateries also offer these beloved comfort foods. These dishes provide a familiar and satisfying meal, reminding you of the diverse culinary landscape of the Philippines.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Boracay Island is a melting pot of cultures, but it's important to be respectful of local customs. Dress modestly when visiting local communities or religious sites. Always greet locals with a smile and be polite. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service. Understanding and respecting the local way of life will enhance your interactions and overall experience.

Safety is paramount for any traveler. Boracay is generally a safe destination, but it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually available through the front desk, and it's good to have the number of your embassy or consulate handy if you are an overseas Filipino worker.

For seamless travel, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application will help you navigate the island. Ride-hailing apps might not be as prevalent as in major cities, but local tricycle booking services or hotel concierge can assist with transportation. Weather apps are also useful for planning your daily activities around potential rain showers.

It's also beneficial to have a currency converter app if you plan on shopping or dining extensively. While most establishments accept Philippine Pesos, understanding exchange rates can be helpful. Finally, a translation app can be useful if you encounter non-English speaking locals, though English is widely understood in tourist areas.

If you're looking for a hotel away from noise then this will perfectly suit for you since nasa dulo na sya ng Station 3 😂 Pero kung gusto mo na mas malapit sa mga kainan at awrahan then recommended padn nmn tong hotel na to pero maglalakad ka ng kalayo layo para makapuntang station 1 or station 2, meron dn namng mga padyak pero presyo nila pang Grab 😂

Great location, on the beach and in a quiet area. Breakfast was included but we only ate at our hotel once (so many other options near by). Our 1st room was clean except for the bathroom. It had a horrible smell to it that actually made me physically sick one evening, ants all over the sink, floor, shower and walls. We asked to be moved the next day and was relocated across the garden within the hour. This room was great! No smelll or ants and very clean. The staff was exceptional and super friendly. Beach towels were given each day at the front desk. All staff were so friendly and helpful during our entire stay!

The room is very very small and the condition is quite out of imagination. The facuet doesn't work/water doesn't come out and the water drains very slow when I shower.

The property was very comfortable as it didn't have the mass of tourists in the area as Station 1 and 2. Make sure you book the deluxe garden accommodations. The regular accommodation does not feel as safe as it is separated from the front desk where vendors separate the area that you are staying if you choose a standard. The deluxe and garden view categories would be the way to go. The staff is excellent. Louis and the other Front Desk staff were wonderful. The bartenders were great! The breakfast were included during your stay and they were pretty good. Not luxurious but totally edible and tasty. The only challenge was the many other tourists primarily the Chinese people who were quite noisy and rude as they had no respect by screaming on simple conversations amongst themselves. I think the only negative would be the tourists. The internet worked fine and altho some brownouts occurred it was quickly handled. For the price this property was fine. Its comfortable and clean and the staff were very accommodating.

Property really is beachfront. Not all rooms are, but nice bar area to watch sunset. Very walkable even though a little bit up the beach. They do state 24 hour desk but they said check in ends at 12. We still checked in , but not without worying for about 30 min.

Customer Service is excellent. Ann, Gretchen and the rest of their staff are very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was great and walking distance to the beach. plus they provided beach towels anytime you like to go swimming or just relaxing on the beach. Only one suggestion is to provide small refrigerator to each room. Overall our Boracay experience was excellent.

Our stay in Grand Blue beach hotel was amazing, the welcome drink was delicious, the rooms were spacious and smells fresh. They provided bottled water on the first day. The provided towels for shower and different towels for the beach which I like. The staffs were very helpful and friendly. I tried to borrow knife to cut my papaya but instead their staff pelled and sliced it place it on a plate.

Great location in station 3, less crowded but still accessible to everything in boracay. Rooms were tiny and musty, but a decent value without breaking the bank. Breakfast was good!
