What Guests Say About Their Stay

Vincent

I was just kinda disappointed because I thought it’s a beachfront hotel but it’s not and a walking distance from the beach. The background view from my hotel room door are squatter houses. But overall, I had a nice 2-night stay even the shampoo bottle in my bathroom is empty. It’s clean, safe and secured and they should always lock the gate of the premises at night even though there is a security guard.

Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Reaching Boracay Island from Manila and other major Philippine cities is primarily done via air travel. Flights to Caticlan Airport (MPH) are the most convenient, with travel times around 1 hour and fares typically ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and booking time. Alternatively, flights to Kalibo International Airport (KLO) are often cheaper, with fares around PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000, but require an additional 1.5 to 2-hour bus or van transfer to Caticlan Jetty Port.

For those preferring land and sea travel, you can take a bus from Manila to Caticlan. This journey is significantly longer, taking approximately 10 to 12 hours, with bus fares usually ranging from PHP 1,000 to PHP 1,800. This option is more budget-friendly but requires a considerable time commitment. It’s a good choice for travelers who want to save on airfare and don't mind the extended travel duration. Remember to book your book flight or bus tickets in advance.

Once you arrive at Caticlan Jetty Port, you will need to pay terminal and environmental fees, typically around PHP 300-400 per person, before boarding a boat to Boracay Island. The boat ride itself is short, about 15 minutes. Upon arrival at Boracay's Cagban Port, you'll take a tricycle to your accommodation. The total cost for the boat and tricycle transfers can add up, so factor these into your overall travel budget.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

The peak season for visiting Boracay Island, offering the most favorable weather, is generally from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity, making it ideal for beach activities, swimming, and water sports. The Amihan season, characterized by gentle northeast winds, prevails, contributing to the pleasant conditions. This period, however, also sees higher tourist numbers and increased accommodation prices.

For travelers seeking a more relaxed atmosphere and potentially lower prices, the shoulder months of May and October can be excellent choices. While there might be occasional rain showers, they are usually brief and followed by sunshine. The Habagat season, from May to October, brings stronger winds and occasional rainfall, which can be more suitable for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Visiting during the off-peak season allows you to enjoy Boracay's beauty with fewer crowds.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in its rich culinary heritage, and Boracay Island offers plenty of opportunities to do so. A must-try is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly complements the tropical climate. You can find excellent Kinilaw at many beachfront restaurants, often made with the freshest catch of the day.

Another local favorite is La Paz Batchoy, a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo, but widely enjoyed across the islands. This savory soup features pork, shrimp, and vegetables in a rich broth, topped with crispy garlic and chicharon. It’s a comforting and flavorful dish, perfect for a satisfying meal, especially during cooler evenings or after a day of swimming. Many local eateries and carinderias on Boracay serve this delicious soup.

For seafood lovers, grilled specialties are a highlight. Freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns are often grilled to perfection and served with a variety of dipping sauces. Look for stalls and restaurants offering "paluto" services, where you can select your seafood and have it cooked according to your preference. This is a fantastic way to enjoy the bounty of the ocean prepared just the way you like it.

Don't forget to try Halo-Halo for dessert. This iconic Filipino treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It’s a colorful and refreshing dessert that offers a burst of flavors and textures, making it the perfect way to end any meal on a sweet note. Many cafes and restaurants across Boracay serve this popular dessert.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When visiting Boracay, embracing this spirit by being respectful of local customs is appreciated. When visiting religious sites like Iglesia Ni Cristo - Lokal ng Boracay, dress modestly out of respect. Understanding and respecting these simple cultural norms will enhance your interactions with the local community.
