the property was excellent. But I was most happy that they could break a 1000 php, because disappointingly vendors don't provide change - hard to make a sell when they don't have change, and the only bill issued by the ATM is a 1000 and rarely a 500.

Your Travel Guide to Puerto Princesa as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Princesa from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers, the quickest way to reach Puerto Princesa is by air. Major airlines operate regular flights from Manila (MNL) and other key cities like Cebu to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Flight durations are typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes from Manila. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, so booking early is recommended for better prices.

While flights are the most convenient option, land and sea travel are also possible, though considerably longer. Buses from Manila to Batangas port, followed by a ferry to Puerto Princesa, can take over 24 hours. This option is more budget-friendly but requires a significant time commitment. For those who enjoy road trips, driving is an option, but it involves long hours and multiple ferry crossings.

Once you arrive at Puerto Princesa International Airport, getting to your accommodation like Hibiscus Garden Resort is easy. Tricycles and taxis are readily available to take you to your hotel. The airport is quite close to the city center, so these transfers are usually short and affordable, making your arrival hassle-free.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Princesa

The ideal time to visit Puerto Princesa is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, perfect for island hopping tours, exploring underground rivers, and enjoying the beaches. The weather is typically warm and pleasant, making outdoor activities highly enjoyable for Filipino travelers.

The period between June and October marks the wet season, characterized by occasional rainfall and potentially stronger winds. While you might find fewer crowds and potentially lower prices on flights and accommodation during this time, it's advisable to check weather forecasts regularly. Despite the rain, many attractions remain accessible, and the lush greenery of Palawan is particularly striking during this season.

For those looking to avoid the peak tourist crowds and potentially find better deals, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as late May or early November. These periods often offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer visitors, allowing for a more relaxed exploration of Puerto Princesa and its surrounding natural wonders.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Princesa — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Puerto Princesa offers a delightful culinary scene that showcases the best of Filipino flavors, with a special emphasis on fresh seafood. A must-try dish is the *Kinilaw*, a local version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly captures the taste of the sea.

Another local specialty you should seek out is *Tamilok*, a type of woodworm harvested from mangrove trees. While the idea might seem unusual, when prepared correctly, often fried or in a kinilaw, it offers a unique briny flavor that many find surprisingly delicious. It’s an adventurous culinary experience that truly represents the local palate.

Don't leave Puerto Princesa without trying *La Paz Batchoy*, a hearty noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, originating from Iloilo but popular across the Philippines. For a sweet ending, indulge in *Halo-Halo*, a fitting choice for Filipino dessert with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. These dishes offer a true taste of Filipino cuisine.

For an authentic dining experience, explore local eateries and markets. Many small carinderias offer delicious and affordable Filipino meals. For a more upscale experience, restaurants like Ka Lui, which is conveniently located near Hibiscus Garden Resort, offer a refined take on local dishes, especially seafood, in a charming setting. Exploring these options will give you a comprehensive taste of Puerto Princesa's food landscape.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Princesa

Filipino travelers visiting Puerto Princesa will find the locals to be warm and hospitable. It's customary to greet elders with respect, and using polite terms like "po" and "opo" is appreciated. When visiting churches or local communities, dress modestly out of respect for local customs. Tipping is not mandatory but is always appreciated for good service.

Safety in Puerto Princesa is generally good, but it's always wise to take standard precautions. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and keep your valuables secure. Avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. For any emergencies, the local police hotline is usually 911, and it's good to have the contact number for your accommodation readily available.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable navigation app like Google Maps is crucial for getting around. For communication, ensure you have messaging apps like WhatsApp or Messenger. Additionally, having the Traveloka app on your phone will allow you to easily manage your bookings, discover local attractions, and even book attraction tickets on the go, making your trip planning seamless.

A picturesque boutique. The pool is a plus, and staff was helpful. Lots of nice details duch as a native hammock in front of the rooms, a small patio space, and drying racks for wet swimwear. Easy to hail a tricycle to get around town. However , no breakfast inclusion, and more importantly, very slow internet service. On the day of checkout , there was a problem with water.

The surrounding area is nothing special, but the hotel is a perfect oasis. Everything is impeccable without being sterile and fussy. The rooms, food, staff, and property could not be better. The staff are also very good at communicating. Every question I had, even from home in the USA, was answered almost instantly. I will definitely stay here if I return to Puerto Princesa.

We had an outstanding stay at the Hibiscus Garden Hotel. It has a beautiful garden and pool area. Arlene welcomed us us immediately, got help with our (many) bags from scuba diving and booked us transport to the airport. The hotel kept our bags while we were on tour. A very pleasant surprise was the hotel restaurant, which has a big menu. Everything we ate was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel.

I was only at the hotel one night but wish I’d booked two! The pool is small but really pretty with gardens and palms around. There are hammocks and comfy garden chairs for each room. The restaurant and bar area are really nice- the lighting and decor is pretty and the hotel totally changes atmosphere at night. The staff are so lovely, even the security guard helped w my luggage at 3am when I had an early transfer and the receptionists were so helpful. I left some food for a small cat on the propert and they even emailed me saying had I forgot it- lots of care is taken in their service. the pasta I had was great- although a very small portion, and something else came out cold in the middle and had to be re cooked. Some of the pool furniture - the large day bed, is dirty and worn. These are the only negatives I could see. Lovely little hotel- but know it’s about 10 min tuktuk to atm/mall the city proper

Hibiscus Garden Inn can be a home away from home. I love the landscaping and the spacious and tastefully decorated rooms. It is by design relaxing with hammocks and garden sets all over the property. The small pool was a nice addition too just to cool off. The staff were very gracious and accommodating. It is located in a central location so easy to hop onto a tuktuk (tricycle) to get to anywhere in the city for $1-7 per trip depending on distance. The owner/manager stays in the property so there is that hands on decision making which makes everything a breeze. I definitely recommend this place. I also saw couples with young children so it is family friendly too.

The Hibiscus Garden Inn is one of the most lush and beautifully landscaped hotels I've ever seen. The pool area is lovely and relaxing. It truly feels like an oasis and it was easy to forget that I was in the middle of a city. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes and every meal I had was delicious. Most importantly, the staff are kind and helpful, especially in reception. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are planning on visiting Palawan and Puerto Princesa.

Great stay at Hibiscus ! The pool area is lovely and the rooms are clean and fresh. Would gladly stay again. The staff were also excellent and booked our transfer to El Nido. Only annoyance is the very loud chickens next door at 2 AM.

the property was excellent. But I was most happy that they could break a 1000 php, because disappointingly vendors don't provide change - hard to make a sell when they don't have change, and the only bill issued by the ATM is a 1000 and rarely a 500.

Beautiful hidden oasis. My partner and I absolutely loved our stay here. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was spacious with great aircon and TV with English movie channel's. Bathroom was modern and really nice. The grounds are beautifully filled with greenery and lovely relaxing pool.

Very nice hotel. Property was clean and very cute. Walkways to rooms very uneven so if you have balance issues could be a slight problem. Room very nice, comfortable. Air on worked well. Hotel had filtered water available which was nice. Restaurant at hotel was exceptional. Fresh fish prepared perfectly! Pool nice and water temp good.

You can’t beat this amazing hotel. Friendly and attentive staff, great food and really family feel. Our Room was spacious and clean and the gardens and grounds ( including nice clean pool with sun loungers) were great. Great food I’m the restaurant. You really don’t need to go outside. Outstanding value and highly recommended for anyone wanting a chilled and relaxing vibe.

This is neither a sterile chain-like place nor a bare-bones location. It is a veritable tropical paradise. The rooms are large, clean, and pretty. The property is immaculately maintained. The food is great. It’s like a little oasis off a busy side street. You enter it, and the world disappears. The staff is perfect. It has character and also a feeling of security. Just do it!
