If you happen to arrive earlier than 14:00, you can inquire at the front desk if an early check-in is possible. While not guaranteed, sometimes rooms become available sooner, and the staff may be able to accommodate you. If your room isn't ready yet, you can usually leave your luggage with the bell desk and begin exploring the nearby areas or relax in the common spaces.

The check-out time is before 12:00 noon. This allows the housekeeping team to begin their work promptly, preparing the rooms for incoming guests. If you have a late flight or wish to spend more time exploring, you can request a late check-out. This is subject to room availability and may incur an additional fee, so it's best to confirm this with the front desk in advance.

Should you need to store your luggage after checking out, the resort typically offers luggage storage services. This is a great option if you have a flight later in the day or want to do some last-minute souvenir shopping without having to carry your bags around. Your Travel Guide to Puerto Princesa as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Princesa from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most common and efficient way to reach Puerto Princesa from Manila and other major Philippine cities is by air. Several airlines operate regular flights to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). Flight durations typically range from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on the origin city. Fares can vary significantly based on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but budget-friendly options are often available.

For travelers coming from nearby islands or provinces in Luzon or Visayas, taking a bus might be an option, though it involves longer travel times and often requires transfers. For instance, traveling from Manila by bus would involve a ferry journey as well, making it a multi-day trip. While more economical, this route is generally less preferred by those seeking to maximize their time in Palawan.

Driving your own vehicle is also possible, especially for those already in Palawan or nearby islands accessible by ferry. The roads leading to Puerto Princesa are generally well-maintained, but the journey can be extensive. This option offers the most flexibility for exploring the island at your own pace once you arrive, allowing you to stop at various points of interest along the way.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Princesa

The ideal time to visit Puerto Princesa is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, making it perfect for island hopping tours, beach activities, and exploring the Underground River. The weather is typically warm and pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 26°C to 32°C.

The period from December to February is often considered the peak tourist season, offering the most stable weather conditions. However, it also means higher prices for flights and accommodation, and more crowds at popular attractions. If you prefer fewer crowds and potentially lower prices, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or March to May.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can range from light showers to heavier downpours. While this season might see fewer tourists and lower costs, some outdoor activities and boat trips could be affected by weather conditions. However, the rain often brings a lushness to the landscape, and you can still enjoy many of the city's attractions.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Princesa — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When in Puerto Princesa, you absolutely must try the local seafood. Given its coastal location, fresh catches are abundant. Look for dishes like grilled fish (isda inihaw), buttered shrimp (hipon na may mantekilya), and kinilaw, a Filipino-style ceviche made with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, and spices. These are staples in many local eateries and restaurants.

Another Palawan specialty you shouldn't miss is the Tamilok. This is a type of woodworm found in mangrove areas, often served fresh or lightly cooked. It has a unique, slightly briny flavor and a slimy texture that some find acquired, but it's a true local delicacy that adventurous eaters will want to sample. It’s often prepared with vinegar and chili.

For a taste of Filipino comfort food with a local twist, try the Chicken Inasal, a grilled chicken marinated in a mixture of calamansi, soy sauce, garlic, and annatto oil, giving it a distinct smoky flavor and vibrant color. While not exclusive to Palawan, it's a popular dish found in many local carinderias and restaurants, perfect for a satisfying meal.

Don't forget to try some local fruits and desserts. Mangoes are often available and incredibly sweet. For a refreshing treat, look for Halo-Halo, a popular Filipino dessert made with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ice cream. It’s the perfect way to cool down after a day under the Palawan sun.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Princesa

Filipino culture in Puerto Princesa is generally warm and hospitable. Politeness and respect are highly valued, so using "po" and "opo" when speaking to elders or those in authority is a good practice. Dress modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas. Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.

Safety in Puerto Princesa is generally good, especially in tourist areas. However, like any city, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Avoid displaying expensive items openly, and be cautious of your belongings, especially in crowded places like markets or terminals. It's recommended to use reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps for transportation.

For emergencies, know that the local police can be reached at 911. Hospitals and clinics are also available within the city. It's always a good idea to have your accommodation's contact number handy. Staying informed about local conditions, especially during the typhoon season, is also a wise precaution for any traveler.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigation. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter phrases you don't understand. For booking local tours or transportation, Traveloka's app is a convenient tool. Lastly, a weather app can help you plan your daily activities based on the forecast.

Breakfast included, including what we paid for. After all, they just "promotion" w / breakfast. Also, we were almost unable to continue because they had no "available rooms". We were just looking for others. I didn't leave right away because I couldn't. Cancel my booking and if possible. Even if I cancel, I will still be charged for my debit. I.'wave 'just like them if ever. But I assure you that once we leave the establishment I am not macha. Charge? :) after how many minutes of staying in the compound, eventually, there is still room available for them to use for us. So we have to do it. It's a waste of money too. Anyways, might be my last time to stay here.
