Your Travel Guide to Legazpi City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Legazpi City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most Filipino travelers coming from Manila and other major urban centers, flying is the most convenient and time-efficient method to reach Legazpi City. Major airlines operate regular flights to Legazpi International Airport (LGP). Flight durations typically range from 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book, but budget-friendly options are often available, especially if you plan ahead and book flight tickets during promotional periods.

Alternatively, bus travel is a more economical option, though considerably longer. Buses depart from various terminals in Metro Manila, such as Cubao and Pasay, heading directly to Legazpi City. The journey can take anywhere from 10 to 12 hours, depending on traffic and the number of stops. Fares typically range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,500 for regular or executive class seats. This option is suitable for those who prefer a scenic overland journey or are traveling on a tighter budget.

Driving your own vehicle or a rented car is also feasible, offering the most flexibility. The primary route from Manila involves taking the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Pan-Philippine Highway, passing through Quezon Province and onwards to Bicol. The total distance is approximately 500 kilometers, and the drive can take around 9 to 11 hours without significant stops. Toll fees will add to the overall cost of this option.

Best Time to Visit Legazpi City

Legazpi City experiences a tropical climate, with generally warm temperatures year-round. The dry season, typically from November to May, is considered the best time to visit for most travelers. During these months, you can expect less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the natural attractions, including the iconic Mayon Volcano. The weather is generally sunny, perfect for sightseeing and enjoying the city's surroundings.

The wet season runs from June to October, characterized by more frequent rainfall and the possibility of typhoons, especially during the peak months of July to September. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt outdoor plans. For travelers who prioritize clear skies and outdoor adventures, the dry season is the preferred choice. However, even during the wet season, short, intense downpours are common, and the city remains accessible.

Food and Dining Near Legazpi City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Bicolano cuisine is renowned for its rich flavors, often featuring a delightful combination of spice and savory notes, with coconut milk being a staple ingredient. A must-try dish is Bicol Express, a creamy and spicy stew made with pork, chilies, and coconut milk. Its robust flavor profile is a true representation of the region's culinary identity. You can find excellent versions of this dish in many local eateries and restaurants around Legazpi City.

Another local delicacy that captures the essence of Bicol is Laing. This dish consists of dried taro leaves simmered in coconut milk with fish or shrimp and a generous amount of chilies. The result is a uniquely textured and flavorful dish that is both comforting and exciting for the palate. Many restaurants near Hotel Venezia will feature Laing on their menus, offering an authentic taste of the region.

For those who enjoy seafood, Kinunot is a popular choice. It's a dish made from shark or stingray meat, cooked in coconut milk with vinegar, ginger, and chilies. The tender texture of the fish combined with the creamy, spicy sauce makes it a delightful culinary experience. It’s evidence of the local ingenuity in preparing fresh ingredients.

When exploring dining options, consider trying local carinderias or smaller restaurants for the most authentic flavors. These establishments often serve traditional dishes at affordable prices. For a more refined dining experience, many restaurants in Legazpi City offer a fusion of local and international cuisine, providing diverse choices for every palate. Exploring these culinary offerings is an integral part of the travel experience in Albay.

TV broken, hot water maker broken, telephone broken, swimming pool broken, spa broken/closed. Over priced for the extremely tiny room and lack of amenities. The photos look amazing and were likely taken when it opened. It's now old, rusted and broken. There is NO room with a view of the volcano! I was told I can go on the roof to view Mayon. Security is great! The staff appear nice and friendly. The food is 4 or so typical Filipino dishes. I bet she was a beautiful hotel back in the day, but not now. Short drive to Starbucks 7am. and SM mall 10am. If you want your room made up, you have to request it every day. Laundry service is very expensive as usual in hotels.

The hotel staff here was so helpful they researched tours for our stay at the next hotel we were going to. The only problem was we were over a restaurant that was very loud our first night. I would recommend asking for a quieter place if you have small children and want to be able to sleep earlier. Overall though, it was a very good stay in a convenient location even if the area is dirty.

Hotel waiting until the weekend to clean their swimming pool our whole stay which is one of the reasons I chose this hotel. The pool should have been cleaned overnight hours or during the week. The breakfast was ok but have had better.

This the 3rd hotel i have stayed in at legazpi and by far the worst. After checking in and going to my room the key did not work so back down the stairs as no lift then when i got into my room there were no towels. I called housekeeping and after an hour i went back down stairs to reception and eventualy got some only to discover there was no hot water. The safe didnt work so had to have it changed. On the balcony the water came back up through the tiles when you stood on them. I would not stay here again
