Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For most travelers coming from Manila and other major Philippine cities, flying is the most efficient way to reach Boracay Island. You can book flights to either Caticlan Airport (MPH), which is the closest to the island, or Kalibo International Airport (KLO). Airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate frequent flights. Flights to Caticlan are typically more expensive but offer a shorter land and sea transfer. Flights to Kalibo are often cheaper but involve a longer bus or van ride (around 1.5 to 2 hours) to Caticlan Jetty Port. Expect flight prices to range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 8,000 or more, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets.

If you prefer a more economical, albeit longer, journey, bus travel is an option, particularly from Luzon. Buses depart from terminals like Cubao and Pasay in Metro Manila, heading towards Caticlan. The bus trip can take anywhere from 10 to 14 hours, with fares typically ranging from PHP 1,000 to PHP 2,000. This option is best suited for those who have ample time and want to save on airfare.

For those driving from Luzon, you can take your vehicle on a ferry to cross to Panay Island and then proceed to Caticlan Jetty Port. The drive itself involves navigating major highways and provincial roads. While this offers flexibility, consider the total travel time, fuel costs, and potential ferry charges. Once you reach Caticlan Jetty Port, the process of boat transfer to Boracay Island remains the same.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

The ideal time to visit Boracay Island for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which generally runs from November to April. This period offers sunny skies, calm seas, and lower humidity, making it perfect for beach activities, swimming, and water sports. The peak months within this season are typically December to February, when the weather is at its finest, but expect larger crowds and higher accommodation prices.

For a balance of good weather and fewer tourists, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or April. The weather is still pleasant, but you might find more affordable rates and a more relaxed atmosphere. The wet season, from May to October, brings a higher chance of rain and stronger winds, which can sometimes lead to choppy seas and affect water activities. However, this period also offers the lowest prices and the fewest visitors, appealing to those who don't mind occasional rain showers and prefer a quieter island experience.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Boracay Island offers a culinary landscape that reflects its diverse appeal, with plenty of opportunities to savor Filipino favorites. A must-try is the fresh seafood, often grilled to perfection at beachfront restaurants. Look for stalls and eateries offering *kinilaw*, a local ceviche made with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, and spices – a refreshing start to any meal.

Another Filipino staple you should seek out is *La Paz Batchoy*, a hearty noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, originating from Iloilo but widely enjoyed across the islands. For something sweet, *Halo-Halo* is the ultimate Filipino dessert, a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. You can find excellent versions at local eateries and dessert shops scattered throughout the island.

Don't leave Boracay without trying *Chori Burger* and *Longga Burger*, popular street food snacks found at various stalls, especially around Station 1 and Station 2. These grilled chorizo or longganisa patties served in a bun are a flavorful and filling option for a quick bite. For a more substantial meal, seek out restaurants serving *Adobo*, the national dish, prepared with chicken or pork simmered in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns.

When dining near Island Inn Boracay, explore the options within D'Mall and along the beachfront. You'll find everything from casual carinderias serving authentic Filipino dishes to more upscale restaurants offering international cuisine. Many establishments pride themselves on using fresh, local ingredients, ensuring a delicious and authentic taste of the Philippines during your island getaway.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Boracay Island, while a popular tourist destination, retains a strong sense of local culture. It's important to be respectful of local customs and traditions. Dress modestly when visiting religious sites or interacting with local communities away from the main tourist strips. Always greet locals with a smile and a polite "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you).

Safety is paramount for any traveler. Boracay is generally a safe island, but it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually available through your accommodation or can be found on local information boards. It’s also a good idea to have the contact numbers for your embassy or consulate readily accessible.

To enhance your travel experience, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigating the island. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber are widely used. If you plan on booking activities or tours, the Traveloka app is your go-to for finding and booking attractions and accommodations. Okay, okay. We got for 6600 (4pax 3 nights) breakfast too. The room was nice but lacked hangings and cabinets and was useless. It smells like the room we were cleaning together, just because the hotel stinks.

I always say the most memorable food I had in Boracay is this inn's garlic rice for their free breakfast. Lol! I really love their garlic rice. The free breakfast is just silog meals but it's definitely worth it as the food around Bora in general is pricey. The room is clean and spacious. The bed and pillows are specially nice that I really had a good night's sleep which is uncommon. They have hot and cold shower, it would be nice if they have exhaust fans for the CR though. Place is at first hard to locate and the way to the inn is muddy specially if it's raining. However this place is very accessible to the White Beach and D'mall with just a few minutes walk. Staff is friendly and courteous and even offered to leave our bags at their inn while waiting for the check-in time so we could go roam around the island. Security is top notch as well. Overall I will recommend this Inn to everyone I know who plans to visit Boracay and will definitely stay here again when we go back.

Okay, okay. We got for 6600 (4pax 3 nights) breakfast too. The room was nice but lacked hangings and cabinets and was useless. It smells like the room we were cleaning together, just because the hotel stinks.

Staff are friendly and accommodating. Don’t expect too much when it comes to the free breakfast (they only offer “silog meals”). Need to walk in order to get to the beach near D mall market but overall experience is good. :)

The location is close to the beach strategic rooms are really cold and the lack of WiFi is not on for the upstairs.

It's a great experience to be here as a first timer... the place is awesome - very accessible to the beach, market and restaurants. The room is nice and clean with accommodating and friendly staffs especially the pretty ate receptionist at the front desk. ❤️
