Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila, reaching Tagaytay City is a straightforward journey. You can opt for bus services from terminals like those in Pasay (near LRT Buendia) or Cubao. Buses typically run every hour, and the fare ranges from PHP 150 to PHP 250, with the travel time being approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. This is a cost-effective and convenient option for many.

If you prefer to drive, you can take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then connect to the Tagaytay-Calamba Road or the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road. Toll fees can range from PHP 200 to PHP 400 for a round trip, depending on your starting point and vehicle type. The drive offers scenic views as you ascend towards Tagaytay's cooler climate. For those flying into the country, booking a book flight to Manila's NAIA is the first step, followed by ground transportation to Tagaytay.

From other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Davao, the most efficient way to reach Tagaytay is by taking a domestic flight to Manila (NAIA). Once you land in Manila, you can follow the same bus or driving routes mentioned above to get to Tagaytay City. Planning your flights and ground transfers in advance can help ensure a smoother travel experience and potentially better prices.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City experiences a generally cooler climate throughout the year compared to the lowlands, making it a pleasant destination anytime. However, the best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

The months of December to February are particularly popular due to the Christmas season and the cooler temperatures, which can dip significantly in the evenings. This period is considered peak season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation rates. If you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or late April.

The wet season, from May to October, brings occasional rain showers, which can be heavy but often pass quickly. While this season might deter some outdoor activities, it also means fewer tourists and potentially lower prices for hotels and flights. The lush greenery and misty ambiance can also be quite appealing to some visitors.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Tagaytay is a culinary delight, offering a range of flavors that appeal to the Filipino palate. A must-try is Bulalo, a hearty soup made from beef shanks and bone marrow, slow-cooked until tender. The rich, savory broth is incredibly comforting, especially in Tagaytay's cooler weather. Many restaurants along the highway offer excellent versions of this classic dish.

Another local favorite is Sinigang na Baboy or Hipon, a sour and savory soup that is a staple in Filipino households. The tamarind-based broth, filled with tender pork or shrimp and fresh vegetables like kangkong and radish, offers a refreshing taste. It’s a perfect dish to balance the cooler climate.

For those with a sweet tooth, Tagaytay is famous for its Buko Pie, a sweet young coconut custard pie. The creamy filling encased in a flaky crust is a delightful dessert or pasalubong (souvenir). You'll find numerous bakeries selling freshly baked Buko Pies, making it easy to pick one up.

Don't forget to try the local strawberries, often found in fresh fruit stands or incorporated into desserts like strawberry taho or strawberry ice cream. The cool climate of Tagaytay is ideal for growing these sweet berries, and enjoying them fresh is a simple yet satisfying experience. Many restaurants also feature strawberry-themed dishes.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City is known for its generally relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Filipinos are typically hospitable, and a simple "po" and "opo" when speaking to elders or service staff goes a long way. Respecting local customs and being mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas or hotels, is appreciated.

When it comes to safety, Tagaytay is considered a relatively safe destination for tourists. However, it's always wise to take standard precautions: keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit areas late at night. For emergencies, the local police hotline is usually 911.

For a smoother trip, consider downloading a few essential apps. A navigation app like Google Maps is indispensable for getting around. Ride-sharing apps such as Grab are also widely available and can be a convenient way to book transportation. For real-time weather updates, especially during the rainy season, a reliable weather app can be very helpful.

Upon booking nag request nako ng early check in, kasi mangagaling pa kami sa malayong lugar, then morning we arrived na in tagaytay, nag text ako if pwede na kami mag check in, but unfortunately nag response sila ng “Greetings from La Bella Boutique Hotel. As of now the room category that you booked for today are still occupied and our standard check out time is 12nn. It will be available before 3pm. Thank you for kind understanding.” Nag ikot muna kami sa tagaytay since hindi pa nga pwede mag check in. Then mga 12pm nakarating na kami sa hotel, nag ask ako sa counter ang sabi sakin 3pm pa pwede. Nag intay kami sa lobby and nag ikot ikot narin, wala naman akong napansin na nag che-check out. Or any other guest. Sana mabasa nila to para ma improve nila. Salamat po.

The property and service was pleasant and impressive. Amazing lobby, vicinty and staff. I was disappointed with the room tho, too small and not convinient for me. Also, they don't issue double key card, which becomes an inconvenience too. Maybe bigger rooms with higher rate are somewhat comftable.

Ambience is okay. There are trees everywhere. However, no resto or budget food we can buy from. Location is too far from high way. Staff were not accomodating. During check in time, after giving the key card and giving instructions which you can't understand clearly due to mask and face shield they are wearing, they did not offer any help like asking if we need assistance with our baggage. Did not gave us the pw of the wifi and wifi signal is not that good in our room. Rooms design are great but cleanliness are not so great. They have a carpet like thing there and it's messy due to strands being torn out. They don't have atleast a doormat on the c.r. They don't have small pantry where we can have snacks while inside the room and we'll just be charged when we check out. They only have 1 swimming pool which is not that big. No one from the front desk informed us that we need a full access pass, like a band thing that we need to wear. We should have been told during the check in time. Overall, we did not enjoy our stay with the way we were treated as guests.

The hotel definitely looks amazing with its santorini-like exterior and the art gallery feel of the lobby area. The free access to the jacuzzi made our stay even better. It would’ve been perfect if not for the issue we encountered upon check out. We were informed by the GM that the TV had a crack on the side and a line on the screen. My friend who was with me during the trip noticed the line on the screen when she turned it on the day we checked in but didn’t mind it cause we’re barely gonna use it anyway. There was no available wifi in the room so we’re almost always outside exploring the place. We were sure that the TV didn’t break nor fell off from where it was. In the end, the GM asked for us to write and sign a note stating about the incident. It was disappointing because we really enjoyed our stay until we were informed of that unbelievable TV thing. Lesson learned and also a precaution to those who will be staying at La Bella Boutique Hotel, make sure that you check all the appliances for any visible damages (even the slightest crack, scratch etc) or issues before anything else — even if you think that this is not your job — report any of the issues regarding your room right away to the hotel staff/GM just to make sure that it’ll be hassle free all throughout your stay. We still plan on visiting again but this incident made us more aware of what we should do the next time we check in at LBBH as well as the other hotels. It was a beautiful place to stay indeed! I know there will be improvements for sure. But I hope that the incident won’t happen again. At least we know what to do first when we check in next time.

Upon check in, I asked the front desk host if there's any possible activities in the place and she has this frowned face and immediately answered "No Mam" . Instead I asked for any newsletter for the hotel but she said "Nothing". So from there, I was surprised by her reaction as if she admits that the place has nothing to offer. She doesn't know how to accommodate guest in a way the guest would feel excited. The place is nice, the room is clean ,however, the heater in the bathroom doesn't work. There's no bedroom slipper. There's no activities to do there, there's no WIFI. The pool is too small. The coffee shop alone opens at 7:30am so if you wake up at 6:30am and you want some hot coffee you have to wait another hour. The guy who is assigned at the pool is so busy with his phone doing some games instead of accommodating the guest he is quite grumpy also. The place is good for staying the night like if you had no place to go to but if you want to have a staycation? I would not suggest this place. I've been to many places but this one is different I made a mistake I chose this one.

The affordable price was a plus, staff is very helpful and accommodating and the pool was amazing - however, the foldable table was broken, curtain rods are broken, chairs are broken too, flushing the toilet was a bad experience, and upon check in the area under the bed consist of used tissue and used swimming pool pass.

Hotel is far from the city, tricycle drivers are somehow bogus when it comes to fare. The room has a funky smell all throughout our stay! Especially at the bathroom where you would smell the smell of the drainage after opening also closing the showers. Restaurants are not budget-friendly. The pool can be crowded. It’s also blurry, try to take care and replace the water? Tiles of the hotel tends to be messy even by just stepping on it. It’s kinda dirty looking when it gets muddy by slipper or shoe prints by guests. At least provide a complimentary coffee and a glass of water? The front office associate seems to be a bit disoriented and all the file envelopes per guest are just scattered around. You know how one can easily sneak in to get those 500 bills (security deposit) by some trickster guest won’t you guys? Also, smiling makes us guest more comfortable so you guys can start smiling. Another question, why is the keycard handled by the housekeeper instead of the front office? Looks like the housekeeper knows more of the hotel instead of the front office associates when we asked them basic questions. Lastly, it is not delivery friendly hotel! We can’t booked easily because the app is having a hard time locating the hotel. When you want to stay in this hotel, friendly tip: buy your own food outside because the prices inside will kill your wallet and you won’t be full either. We tried their organico and el cocinero food, and bodhi’s waffles and hot choco/coffee. Hot choco seems like it’s only a swiss miss choco powder mixture. Organico and El Cocinero wasn’t very satisfying to the tummy.
