So this iconic spot rocks!! (Excuse the pun) the view and the beach cannot be beat, and the staff is outstanding in every respect. The restaurant is very good, which is a good thing, because there really isn’t a lot of other dinning options nearby. Still, limited dinning takes a back seat to the wonderful setting and relaxing vibe. Of course, this is all true, but you should be aware that if there is one hotel on the island that is a destination for day tourist, it is Mandalong Rock Resort. This simply means that expect to have a full resort every weekend as a number of Instagram wannabes show up to the resort to take countless photos of themselves. And of course, if you’re unlucky enough, you might be treated to a family birthday party with Karoke machine ready to roll over your idealic Vaca. Still, I’d definitely stay here again, but I’d make sure it was on a week day

Your Travel Guide to San Francisco, Pacijan Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to San Francisco, Pacijan Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to San Francisco, Pacijan Island from Manila typically involves a flight to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Numerous airlines offer daily flights, with fares varying based on booking time and season, but you can often find competitive rates if you book flight tickets in advance. Flight duration is approximately 1.5 hours. From the airport, you'll need to take a taxi or ride-sharing service to Danao Port, which is about a 2-3 hour drive, costing around PHP 1,500-2,000.

From Danao Port, you can catch a ferry or a smaller boat to Consuelo Port in San Francisco, Camotes Islands. Ferry trips usually take about 2 hours, with ticket prices ranging from PHP 200-300. There are also options from Cebu City's Pier 1 to Benoni Port in Camotes, followed by a land transfer to San Francisco. Buses from major terminals in Metro Manila to Cebu City are also available, though this is a much longer journey, often involving an overnight ferry or a combination of land travel and a shorter sea crossing.

Once you arrive at Consuelo Port in San Francisco, tricycles are the primary mode of transport to reach your accommodation, such as Mangodlong Rock Resort. The ride to the resort area typically costs around PHP 100-150, depending on the exact location and your negotiation skills. The entire journey from Manila requires careful planning, but the scenic beauty of the Camotes Islands makes the travel worthwhile for many Filipino travelers seeking a unique island experience.

Best Time to Visit San Francisco, Pacijan Island

The best time to visit San Francisco, Pacijan Island, and the wider Camotes Islands is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, lower humidity, and calmer seas, making it ideal for beach activities, island hopping, and exploring the natural attractions. The period between December and February is particularly pleasant, with cooler temperatures and minimal rainfall.

The wet season, from June to October, brings with it increased chances of rain, occasional typhoons, and rougher seas. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, travel plans can be disrupted by inclement weather. If you don't mind occasional showers and are looking for a more budget-friendly trip, visiting during the shoulder months of November or May can offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer crowds.

For travelers who wish to experience local festivals or events, it's worth checking the local calendar. However, for general enjoyment of the beaches and outdoor activities, the dry season remains the most recommended period. Planning your visit between November and May will maximize your opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and ensure a more comfortable island experience.

Food and Dining Near San Francisco, Pacijan Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

When visiting San Francisco, Pacijan Island, be sure to indulge in fresh seafood, a staple of island cuisine. Grilled fish, prawns, and squid are commonly available at local eateries and resorts. Look for 'kinilaw,' a Filipino ceviche made with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. It’s a refreshing and flavorful dish that perfectly captures the taste of the sea.

Another local delicacy to try is 'Lechon,' a whole roasted pig, often available during special occasions or at local markets. The crispy skin and succulent meat are a treat for any food lover. For a taste of home-style Filipino cooking, seek out dishes like 'Adobo' (meat braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns) and 'Sinigang' (a sour soup, typically with pork or seafood and vegetables). These familiar flavors are often prepared with a local twist.

Don't forget to sample local snacks and desserts. 'Budbud' (sticky rice cakes) are a popular breakfast or snack item, often served with sugar or ripe mangoes. Fresh tropical fruits like mangoes, bananas, and coconuts are abundant and incredibly sweet. Enjoying these local flavors is an integral part of the travel experience, offering a delicious insight into the culture of the Camotes Islands.

For dining options, you'll find a range of choices from simple carinderias (local eateries) offering affordable and authentic Filipino meals to restaurants within resorts that provide a more varied menu. Exploring the local food scene is part of the adventure, allowing you to discover hidden culinary gems and interact with the friendly locals. Many places offer beachfront dining, allowing you to enjoy your meal with a view of the ocean.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for San Francisco, Pacijan Island

The culture in San Francisco, Pacijan Island, is characterized by the warmth and hospitality of the Filipino people. Locals are generally friendly and welcoming to visitors. It's polite to greet people with a smile and a simple 'Maayong adlaw' (Good day) or 'Salamat' (Thank you). Respecting local customs, such as dressing modestly when visiting churches or more traditional areas, is appreciated.

Safety is generally not a major concern in this laid-back island setting, but it's always wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places late at night. For any emergencies, local police assistance can be sought. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers for your accommodation and local emergency services readily available.

- So bad, I didn’t even stay there - Upon arriving around 12pm, we were told to wait until 2pm to check in. (it was a straight "no, room is not ready. check in is 2pm, come back at 2" - very shocking no hospitality) This should have alarmed me, but I waited under the sun for a long time... and checked in after 2pm. The room was so tired and dirty, "beach front" room does not have a beach view as they claimed on the description, smelly air in the room, stained bath towels.... I could not stay there, so I complained at the reception, and the manager told me they can't do anything about it, and told me to contact Expedia instead. So I checked out at 2:45pm. Contacted Expedia after I relocate myself to another accommodation. Expedia did all they can to get a hold of hotel rep by emails and phone calls, but the resort ignored all of them. Very disappointed, as the Santiago resort I stayed was not bad, and the owner is the same. - Bad customer service - Photos of the exterior must be old, they now have a beaten up, tired looking octopus slider (which is not functioning) on the small islands area.

The room was clean very basic. No fridge in the room. The resterant was good at very good prices, out of the seven days we stayed four of those days we had no towels in the room & had to ask for them & two of those days we got one towel between me and my wife. The small beach was nice but you had a lot of day trippers coming in & sometimes they were quite noisy. On the whole we had nice chill out

Overall it is a great value and good location. A short distance to white beach and a scooter rental just outside the front door. The room was great by comparison to others on the island. Spacious, nice bathroom and shower. Clean, nice TV. Coffee service tray. Restaurant was good, staff was good. Try the halo halo when it’s available. The only disappointment was the water slide looks like It hasn’t functioned in several years. The swimming area is a bit rocky but not too bad and it’s the ocean. With a mask and snorkel it’s all there. Overall very interesting, and unique and comfortable. I would stay there again. Very casual. Nice pool.

The parking area was dirt. The room only had a sheet for blanket and one tiny pillow each person. Towels are not change to clean ones upon request because we only stayed one night, considering they are a beach resort they would be offering change clean towels. If you request extra towel, you pay 50 pesos per towel. The slides for the octupus whic was the main reason we booked it was closed even when the water was high tide. The food wasnt good at their resto. The pool has a swimming fee. The shore is rocky and full of algae. Front desk staff was not informative and was not helpful.

Unfortunately, there was no internet when we came. Other than that the resort was great and their staff were friendly. Although, I was told by one of the staff that I needed to pay more to have our towels changed the second time.

Place was super relaxing and the staff were very accommodating. Looking forward for my next stay in Camotes still at Mangodlong Rock Resort. The price offered by Expedia was such a great deal! I was able to save a lot from the usual walk in price..
