Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Metro Manila is often the most efficient method. Major airports like Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) serve numerous domestic routes daily. You can easily book flight tickets to Manila through Traveloka, often finding fares ranging from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 depending on the origin city and booking time. Flight durations typically range from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

From NAIA, you can take a taxi or a ride-sharing service directly to Quezon City. The travel time can vary significantly based on traffic, usually between 45 minutes to over an hour, with fares typically ranging from PHP 400 to PHP 700. Alternatively, you can take an airport bus or shuttle to a point where you can connect to the MRT or LRT lines that serve Quezon City, which can be a more budget-friendly option.

For those traveling from Luzon, bus services are abundant and connect major provincial cities to Metro Manila's various terminals. Bus fares are generally more economical, often ranging from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500 depending on the distance. From the bus terminals, you can then utilize the city's public transport system, including the MRT and LRT, or take a taxi to reach your specific destination within Quezon City.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

Quezon City, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate characterized by distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season, generally from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Temperatures typically range from 24°C to 34°C.

The wet season runs from May to October. While this period sees frequent rainfall, it doesn't typically mean continuous downpours. Showers are often heavy but short-lived, usually occurring in the afternoon. Visiting during the wet season can mean fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, offering a different kind of travel experience. It's wise to carry an umbrella or raincoat if you plan to visit during these months.

For the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of the dry season, such as November or February. These periods often provide comfortable temperatures and a good chance of clear skies, allowing you to fully enjoy what Quezon City has to offer. Regardless of when you visit, always check the weather forecast closer to your travel dates.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Quezon City is a culinary melting pot, offering a wide array of Filipino dishes that showcase the country's diverse flavors. A must-try is **Adobo**, the unofficial national dish, featuring meat (often chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. Its savory and tangy profile is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants across the city.

Another beloved dish is **Sinigang**, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth and a choice of meat like pork or shrimp, along with various vegetables such as kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. The comforting warmth and distinct sourness of Sinigang make it a favorite, especially on cooler or rainy days. You can find excellent versions in local eateries and carinderias.

For those who enjoy grilled specialties, **Lechon Kawali** (crispy fried pork belly) and **Inihaw na Liempo** (grilled pork belly) are highly recommended. The crispy, golden-brown skin of Lechon Kawali and the smoky char of Inihaw na Liempo, often served with a side of soy-vinegar dipping sauce, offer a satisfying textural and flavorful experience that is quintessentially Filipino.

Don't leave Quezon City without trying **Halo-Halo**, the ultimate Filipino dessert. This refreshing concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down and indulge your sweet tooth, offering a colorful and delicious end to any meal. Exploring these dishes will give you a true taste of Filipino cuisine.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals in Quezon City, a friendly demeanor and respectful attitude go a long way. Greetings like "Magandang umaga/hapon/gabi" (Good morning/afternoon/evening) are appreciated. While English is widely spoken, learning a few basic Tagalog phrases can enhance your interactions.

Safety in Quezon City is generally comparable to other major urban centers. It's advisable to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas and public transportation. Avoid displaying expensive items openly and keep your valuables secure. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. If you encounter any issues, local emergency numbers are readily available, and hotel staff can assist.

For seamless navigation and communication, several apps are highly recommended for your trip. Ride-sharing apps like Grab are essential for convenient and relatively affordable transportation around Metro Manila. Food delivery apps such as GrabFood or Foodpanda can bring a wide variety of local and international cuisines right to your hotel. For staying updated on local news and events, news apps specific to the Philippines are useful.

Additionally, having a reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigating the city's streets and public transport routes. These tools will help you make the most of your visit, ensuring you can travel efficiently, discover local dining spots, and stay connected throughout your stay in Quezon City.

This accommodation was perfect for a short trip in Quezon City. It had everything I needed and more. Internet was fast, and it's a stone throw away from restaurants and convenience stores. Right out front is a bus hub to different areas. It's a short walk to the MRT. Great price for a student on a budget.

It was bad. I've slept in motels too, but this one was just bad. But I guess that's what you get for 700 Php. The staff were nice enough. However, the first thing I asked for when I got there was water, and they didn't have any! Not even water that I could buy. Furthermore, when I got to the first room they assigned me, the restroom smelled bad. I called the front desk and he told me that that room had just been cleaned. He did transfer me to another room that was much better. I only booked here to rest, so there's that. Probably won't do so again any time soon. Definitely not a 2 &1/2 star hotel.

Average motel. Place was easy to find. Aircon was malfunctioning; we want it at lower temperature but it kept going back to 26 degrees. Hallway was wet; no signage of wet floor anywhere.

This accommodation was perfect for a short trip in Quezon City. It had everything I needed and more. Internet was fast, and it's a stone throw away from restaurants and convenience stores. Right out front is a bus hub to different areas. It's a short walk to the MRT. Great price for a student on a budget.

I was booked on Deluxe Room but it was in the fourth floor with no elevator and no water. I had to transfer to an ordinary room in the first floor so I could have water and there was no refund.

The AC was too noisy and not cool. It's like the sound of generator inside your room.

Great budget hotel and near GMA. Accessible to all establishment you need. Still, your room service attendant need to clean the walls and tips even though it's a good budget hotel. Keen cleanliness must be a priority.

No towels, blankets, tissue and grooming kit. The bed was also poorly maintained as evident by the presence of bed bugs. An unpleasant stay all in all

Second time in this hotel and it is great value for money. Near Kamuning MRT so it's easy to get around the metro.
