We had the most pleasant stay at Mines View Park Hotel! They even upgraded our room, free of charge! Strawberry drinks were also given to us upon arrival while they’re preparing our room. We love their coffee and baguio longganisa!❤️ All of the staff, including the security guard (forgot to ask his name, but thanks a lot sir!), were very courteous! This is not my first time in Baguio, but all of the people in this hotel amazed me because they will go beyond good manners to show their guest that they will be taken good care of. We will definitely come back here!

Your Travel Guide to Baguio City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Baguio City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Baguio City from Manila is a popular choice for many Filipinos seeking a cooler climate. The most common method is by bus, with several reputable companies like Victory Liner and Genesis Transport operating frequent trips. Buses depart from various terminals in Metro Manila, including Cubao and Pasay. Fares typically range from PHP 700 to PHP 1,200, and the journey takes approximately 5 to 7 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

For those who prefer to fly, the nearest major airports are Clark International Airport (CRK) and Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From either airport, you would then take a bus to Baguio. Booking your book flight tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons, can help secure better fares. Flight prices to Manila or Clark can vary significantly, but budget airlines often offer competitive rates.

Driving to Baguio City is also an option for those with their own vehicles. The primary route from Manila involves taking the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) towards Tarlac, eventually connecting to the TPLEX and then the MacArthur Highway leading to Baguio. Toll fees can add up, so it’s wise to factor this into your travel budget. The scenic mountain roads offer beautiful views but require careful driving.

Best Time to Visit Baguio City

Baguio City experiences a generally cool climate year-round, but the best time to visit for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with cooler temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. The peak of the cool season is usually from December to February, with temperatures sometimes dropping to as low as 10-15 degrees Celsius.

The months of June to October constitute the wet season, characterized by frequent rainfall. While this period might see fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices, it can disrupt outdoor plans. However, the misty, rain-soaked landscapes can also offer a unique charm for those who don’t mind the occasional downpour. If you’re planning to visit during major festivals like the Panagbenga Festival in February, booking your accommodation and transport well in advance is highly recommended due to the surge in visitors.

Food and Dining Near Baguio City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Baguio City is a culinary delight, offering a range of flavors that appeal to Filipino palates. One absolute must-try is the Strawberry Taho, a local variation of the classic silken tofu dessert, infused with fresh strawberry syrup and sago. You can find vendors selling this refreshing treat throughout the city, especially near tourist spots.

Another local specialty is the Pinikpikan, a traditional Cordilleran dish. It involves a unique preparation method where the chicken is lightly beaten to draw out blood, which is then cooked with vegetables like etag (smoked pork) and ginger. The resulting soup is hearty and flavorful, offering a taste of authentic highland cuisine. Many local eateries and restaurants in Baguio serve this dish.

For those with a sweet tooth, Baguio’s Ube Jam and Peanut Brittle, famously sold at the Good Shepherd Convent, are highly sought after. The creamy, rich ube jam and the crunchy, sweet peanut brittle are perfect souvenirs and delightful snacks. Don’t forget to try Baguio’s version of the longganisa, often a bit sweeter and garlicky, a perfect addition to any breakfast.

When dining out, explore the local markets for fresh produce and try dishes like Sinigang or Adobo prepared with a Baguio twist. Many restaurants near Mines View Park Hotel offer these Filipino favorites, allowing you to savor the local flavors conveniently.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Baguio City

Baguio City is known for its friendly locals and a culture that blends indigenous Cordilleran traditions with modern influences. When interacting with residents, politeness and respect are always appreciated. Learning a few basic phrases in Ilocano or Tagalog can go a long way. Remember to be mindful of local customs, especially when visiting religious sites or cultural landmarks.

Safety is generally good in Baguio, but like any city, it’s wise to take standard precautions. Keep your belongings secure, especially in crowded areas. Be aware of your surroundings, particularly at night. For emergencies, know the local police hotline number. It’s also a good idea to have a reliable transportation app or the hotel’s contact information readily available.

For a smoother trip, consider downloading essential apps. Navigation apps like Google Maps are invaluable for getting around. Ride-hailing apps can be useful for booking transport, though local taxis and jeepneys are also readily available and affordable. Weather apps are helpful for keeping track of Baguio’s famously changeable mountain weather.

Familiarizing yourself with these aspects of Baguio City will undoubtedly enhance your travel experience. The city offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a favorite destination for many Filipinos.

I enjoyed staying here! They upgraded our room with additional fees, but the room they gave us were very huge for 2 pax. It has a veranda, a great view and additional breakfast, we found it of great value for it's price. Ms Abby and her colleagues were very accommodating regarding our request. Thank you very much for making our stay very comfortable and enjoyable. God bless!

The staff are one of the friendliest hospitality staff I have encountered. They would go out of their way to make sure you’ll have a great stay at the hotel. The location is strategically located near Mines View Park, few minutes walk to Outlook Drive where most instagramable cafes are located, and secluded enough to enjoy your stay in Baguio. If you love quiet walks under the pine trees, a good view of the sun rise behind mountains and good food, the hotel is perfect for you!

My stay is good. I like the room and service. However, their opportunity area is in their restaurant. They asked for our breakfast for the following day when we checked in but on the following day, everything that we have selected is not available. They could have informed us the day before. Otherwise, we had a great time on our stay.

Traffic was heavy going to the hotel, upon arrival the lady from the front desk told us to wait so long and then finally gave us a room (executive room) with a king size bed but we're 6 including 2 kids so they provided us two extra beds and promised to transfer us the next day at 2pm to a penthouse room (we originally booked family deluxe). The next day came, we waited and when it's already past 2pm I called up the front desk and asked for our transfer, she said our room is already ready and will send someone to assist. We fell asleep waiting, still no one came, I called again at 4pm and the front desk said the same thing and we waited again, still no one came, at 5pm I called again, this time I scolded her and finally we were transferred to a family deluxe room, not the penthouse that they promised, got really disappointed when I saw the view from our window, it was the water tank! the carpet is so dirty, the towels are old, the kitchen from the resto is also dirty, I ordered during dinner their strawberry adobo, they just put one piece of strawberry and that's it, their chef's salad has no dressing, and when I asked for one, the staff from the resto said there's really none! so I went down to the resto and really asked for it and the staff told me to wait and he will asked again the kitchen staff, then he came back with my dressing and apologized that they forgot to put it and it was not really prepared very well. it was bad actually and there's no room service because the guy from resto said he was all alone. there's still more bad things about this hotel but I'm too tired to write them all.

the hotel is not advisable for those who have difficulty in walking. although there is an elevator but you have to climb up to the 1st floor for you to reach the elevator.

God bless!

We had a great stay. Very convinient. Only problem is their parking -they would wake us up early to move the car since the others parked are leaving.
