Your Travel Guide to Moalboal as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Moalboal from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Moalboal from Manila or other major Philippine cities is most efficiently done by air. The primary gateway is Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Numerous airlines operate daily flights from Manila (MNL) to Cebu, with fares often ranging from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for round trips, depending on booking time and airline promotions. You can easily book your flight on Traveloka to find the best deals. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Once you land in Cebu, your journey to Moalboal continues overland. From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, take a taxi or a ride-sharing service to the Cebu South Bus Terminal. This bus terminal is a hub for various provincial routes. Look for buses heading towards Moalboal. These buses typically depart every hour and the trip takes about 3 to 4 hours, with fares generally between PHP 250 to PHP 400.

For a more direct and comfortable transfer from the airport to Moalboal, you can arrange for a private car service. This option is more expensive but significantly reduces travel time and hassle, especially if you are traveling with family or a group. The drive directly from the airport to Moalboal can take around 3 to 3.5 hours. This is a great option if you want to maximize your time in Moalboal upon arrival.

Best Time to Visit Moalboal

Moalboal enjoys a tropical climate year-round, making it a destination accessible for most of the year. However, the best time to visit for optimal weather conditions is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect less rainfall and more sunshine, perfect for enjoying outdoor activities like snorkeling, diving, and exploring the coastline.

The peak tourist season often coincides with the dry months, particularly around the Christmas holidays and the summer months of March to May. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices. For a more relaxed experience and potentially better rates, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as November or February.

The wet season, from June to October, brings a higher chance of rain. However, this doesn't mean you should avoid Moalboal during these months. Rain showers are often brief and followed by sunshine. The advantage of visiting during the wet season can be fewer tourists and more competitive pricing for accommodations and tours. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Moalboal offers its unique charm and attractions.

Food and Dining Near Moalboal — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to the Philippines is complete without indulging in its rich culinary landscape, and Moalboal offers a delightful array of flavors. A must-try is, of course, fresh seafood. Given its coastal location, you'll find an abundance of grilled fish, prawns, and squid at local eateries. Look for places offering "Kinilaw," a Filipino ceviche made with raw fish marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili – a refreshing and zesty dish.

Another Filipino favorite you should seek out is "La Paz Batchoy," a hearty noodle soup originating from Iloilo, but widely enjoyed across the country. It's a comforting and flavorful dish, typically made with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, perfect for a satisfying meal. You can often find local eateries serving this warming soup, especially in the town proper.

For those with a sweet tooth, take advantage of this on "Halo-Halo," a fitting choice for Filipino dessert. This icy concoction is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down on a hot day. Many local carinderias and restaurants in Moalboal will offer their own delicious versions of this popular treat.

Consider trying "Sinigang," a sour and savory soup, often made with pork, fish, or shrimp, flavored with tamarind or other souring agents like guava or kamias. It’s a comforting and uniquely Filipino dish that offers a burst of flavor. Exploring the local food scene is an integral part of the travel experience, and Moalboal provides ample opportunities to savor these delicious dishes.

People were fantastic, the bed was super comfortable, and the food at the restaurant was delicious! The only complaint is that it is far from most things and the dirt road at the end is pretty bumpy!

The hotel is in a remote location of Moalboal (about 15 minutes from the city center). A narrow, gravel road with many potholes connects the hotel with the main road (about 5 minutes drive). Note: There is nothing by the hotel at all. Tri-bikes are cheap to get to other areas of Moalboal if needed and most tour companies will pickup/drop-off at this hotel. The property is secure with gate access and a security guard. The property of the hotel is a calm, quiet retreat if that's what you're looking for with hammocks to lounge in. There's a nice pool, that overlooks mangroves/water, but there is no usable "beach". To use wi-fi you must be in the lobby area, and during peak times (such as dinner) it was slow. The on-site restaurant did prepare good meals, but meal preparation takes some time depending on how many people are ordering at once. A major issue with the rooms is the water pressure (which may be an issue in the Moalboal area for other hotels as well). The hotel staff did their best to accommodate to your needs and are friendly. They assisted us with booking a scuba/snorkel trip and a massage on-site.

The resort is very remote and access to town was limited and cost money. Which wouldn’t have really mattered except that the food was really awful. We received raw chicken more than once and most of the time the food was cold or not fully cooked.

First off let me say that the staff was friendly and tried to be very helpful and accommodating where they could. In the 2 nights I stayed there I stayed in two different rooms. Both rooms were very clean but in the first room the ceiling fan was "in maintenance" (not working) and there was no hot water. We changed rooms and the 2nd room (which was also very clean) didn't have a means to keep the shower water from going into the rest of the bathroom. Consequently when we showered the entire floor got wet and the drain backed-up, we had to stand in a deep puddle of water to use the other parts of the bathroom. We told the management and they did unclog the drain. The resort is very far away from the town and the beach so transportation is required (the edge of the "beach" they are on is mangrove swamp and we didn't even attempt to swim in it). Still the resort is beautiful and a wonderful place for peace and quiet if you are there for meditation.

All of the staff working here were so sweet and fabulous! We were able to rent a motorbike and they helped anyway they could. The setting is very serene.

It is to much away from everything, it got an own beach but this is full of stones, mangroves, small animals. 3 brownouts with not electricity and partly no water the whole day. With electricity the A/C was too loud beside the bed and cooled only a little bit. Roasters of the neighborhood start crying at 4AM. Food and drinks in the restaurant are small and a little overpriced.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed our time here. I wouldn't advise a long stay though: Positives: Staff were very friendly The pool was nice (it's a bit cloudy but I'm guessing this is from the high mineral levels I'm the water) Food was very good and cheap. Especially seeing as there are no other restaurants (as far as we could tell) in walking distance, so they could have hiked their prices. Free water was available Negatives: As this is very much the countryside the wifi was not good at all. It also wasn't available I'm the rooms. The beach is actually a mangrove so don't expect to be sunbathing/swimming here As the other reviews state the place feels tired and needs redecorating Other advice: If you are going to the waterfall just rent a scooter from them as it is reasonably priced (500php for us) for the day and the drive is very easy. The white sand beach is close by but you have to go through 2 tolls to get there. So bring your change. The fruit bowl at reception is not free and you will be charged for it on check out

could have been better. the staff were accommodating and went out of their way to address queries and concerns. resort may have been in good condition in the past but has deteriorated. pool wasn't so clear, road to resort unpaved, bathroom condition rather dilapidated, no hot water, no cable TV in room and no WiFi either. it's not along the beach it's Marsh land. it's cheap so conditions are cheap too.

We stayed for 2 nights, 4 rooms, 8 people, so my kids can go canyoneering in Moalboal. Staff was friendly and helpful. My rooms' air conditioning was not working half the time, filter was filthy, and they had to provide me with an electric fan to make the room temperature tolerable. The room is good size and clean though. My kids made a mistake of swimming in the pool that looks like the water has not been changed for a very long time, in fact you can't see the bottom of the pool at all. Can't swim in their "beach" either. View was nice though, and they have dogs and monkeys in the place. Location was difficult to find and not very accessible. Food was expensive with very small servings, chicken was served raw. Paid for a 500 peso massage for an hour but the experience was more agonizing than relaxing as they got a "masseuse" from outside that didn't have a clue on what she's doing :( Overall, would probably not come back to stay.

The hotel is about 15 mins from the port of Sabang, so it can be time consuming to go back and forth to town if you are diving or want to go out to dinner. The views are beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and the food is great.

They cancelled my booking without telling me. The receptionist said they sent me an email, but I didn't get anything-- not from them or Hotels.com. Worse, because they were fully-booked, they can't book me into another room. The receptionist was willing to refund me what I paid for the room, but the amount he quoted didn't include the service fees charged by this website. So I had to explain that if he gives me a refund, I won't be able to get the extra 400+ php this site charged on top of the accommodation. After a few minutes of negotiating, and the receptionist explaining things to his boss on the phone, they finally refunded me the whole amount I paid. So I guess they still have decent customer service.

We received raw chicken more than once and most of the time the food was cold or not fully cooked.

no soap or shampoo in the room. you have to ask the front desk. Front desk persons will not even say hi nor hello. Aircon too small and very noisy for the room. took 4 hrs to barely cool the entire room. Shower pressure is very minimal.
