Your Travel Guide to Pasay as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Pasay from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For Filipino travelers planning a trip to Pasay, reaching the city is straightforward, with numerous options available from major hubs like Manila, Cebu, and Davao. If you're flying in, Pasay is home to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the primary international gateway. From Cebu or Davao, you can book flight tickets to NAIA, with fares typically ranging from approximately PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 for a round trip, depending on the airline and booking time.

Airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia frequently service these routes, with flight durations of about 1 to 1.5 hours. Once you land at NAIA, Mye Tourist Inn is conveniently located nearby, making your arrival seamless.

If you prefer land travel or are coming from within Luzon, buses are a common and economical choice. Major bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao or Pasay itself, offer routes to various parts of the country. For those already in Metro Manila, local bus services and jeepneys frequently ply routes through Pasay. If you're traveling from further afield in Luzon, inter-provincial buses will likely terminate at terminals within or near Pasay.

Bus fares can vary significantly, but a typical ticket from a nearby province might cost between PHP 400 to PHP 1,000, with travel times ranging from 4 to 10 hours depending on the origin. Driving your own vehicle is also an option, with major expressways like the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connecting to Pasay via various arterial roads.

Toll fees can add up, and travel time will depend heavily on traffic, which can be substantial in Metro Manila.

For those coming from the Visayas or Mindanao and opting for a more budget-conscious approach than flying, ferry services are available. Major shipping lines operate routes to Manila's ports, which are relatively close to Pasay. While this is a significantly longer journey, often taking 24 hours or more, it can be a more scenic and relaxed way to travel for some.

Fares for ferry services are generally lower than flights, often in the range of PHP 1,500 to PHP 3,000 for a one-way ticket, depending on the class of accommodation. Regardless of your chosen mode of transport, planning your journey in advance and checking schedules and fares is always recommended to ensure a smooth trip to Pasay.

Best Time to Visit Pasay

Pasay City, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate characterized by distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season generally runs from December to May, offering the most favorable weather for tourism. Within this period, the months of December to February are particularly pleasant, with cooler temperatures and lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the city on foot.

March to May marks the hotter part of the dry season, with temperatures often soaring, so staying hydrated and seeking air-conditioned spaces is advisable. This dry season is considered peak tourist season, meaning attractions might be more crowded, and accommodation prices could be slightly higher.

The wet season typically spans from June to November. During these months, expect frequent rainfall, which can range from short, intense downpours to prolonged periods of rain. While the rain can sometimes disrupt outdoor plans, it also brings lush greenery to the surroundings and can lead to fewer crowds at popular spots. Traveling during the wet season can be a good option for budget-conscious travelers, as accommodation and flight prices may be lower.

It's also a time when indoor attractions, such as museums, shopping malls, and entertainment centers, become even more appealing. If you don't mind occasional rain showers and prefer a more relaxed atmosphere with fewer tourists, the wet season can offer a different, yet equally rewarding, experience of Pasay.

For most Filipino travelers looking for a balance of good weather and manageable crowds, the shoulder months of the dry season, specifically late November to early March, often present the best compromise. During this period, you can generally expect pleasant weather suitable for exploring Pasay's attractions, while avoiding the peak holiday crowds of late December and the intense heat of April and May.

Regardless of when you choose to visit, always check the weather forecast closer to your travel dates and pack accordingly, bringing light clothing, an umbrella, and comfortable walking shoes.

Food and Dining Near Pasay — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Pasay City, as part of Metro Manila, offers a culinary landscape that reflects the diverse influences on Filipino cuisine. When you visit, be sure to seek out classic dishes that showcase the nation's flavors. One such dish is **Adobo**, considered by many to be the unofficial national dish. Whether it's chicken, pork, or a combination, the savory and slightly tangy stew, typically made with soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns, is a comforting and essential taste of the Philippines.

You'll find excellent versions in local eateries and even in more upscale restaurants around Pasay.

Another must-try is **Sinigang**, a sour and savory soup that is a staple in Filipino households. The sourness is usually derived from tamarind, but other fruits like guava or calamansi can also be used, depending on the region and the main ingredient, which can be pork, beef, fish, or shrimp.

The combination of tender meat or seafood with fresh vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes makes it a refreshing and hearty meal, especially on a cooler evening or after a day of walking. Look for local carinderias (small eateries) for an authentic and affordable Sinigang experience.

For those who enjoy grilled specialties, **Inihaw na Liempo** (grilled pork belly) is a popular choice. Marinated pork belly is grilled to perfection, resulting in a smoky, slightly charred exterior and a juicy, tender interior. It's often served with a side of soy-vinegar dipping sauce, sometimes with chopped onions and chili. This dish is a favorite at casual gatherings and is widely available in restaurants and street-side grills throughout Pasay.

The simple yet robust flavors are a true delight for any meat lover.

Don't leave Pasay without trying **Halo-Halo**, the ultimate Filipino dessert. This iconic treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube (purple yam) ice cream. The name itself means "mix-mix," and the joy of eating Halo-Halo comes from stirring all the ingredients together to create a symphony of textures and sweet flavors. It's the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth, especially during the warmer months.

Many local dessert shops and even some restaurants offer their own unique take on this beloved dessert.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Pasay

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals in Pasay, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect for elders and authority figures is deeply ingrained, so showing deference is appreciated. While generally a friendly and welcoming place, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets or public transport terminals. Keep your valuables secure and be mindful of pickpockets.

For emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911. It's also a good idea to have the contact numbers for your embassy or consulate readily available.

When navigating Pasay and Metro Manila, understanding local customs can enhance your experience. It's common for Filipinos to be quite accommodating and helpful, so feel free to ask for directions if you're lost, but do so politely. When dining, especially in more traditional settings, it's customary to wait for elders to start eating first. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for good service, usually around 10% in restaurants.

Be aware of common scams, such as overly friendly strangers offering unsolicited tours or "help" that might lead to demands for money. Trust your instincts and stick to reputable establishments and services.

To make your trip smoother, consider downloading a few essential apps. A ride-sharing app like Grab is indispensable for convenient and relatively affordable transportation around Metro Manila; it allows you to book cars or motorcycle taxis and see the fare upfront. For navigation, Google Maps is highly effective for finding your way around and estimating travel times, though be aware that traffic in Manila can be unpredictable.

A translation app can be helpful if you encounter situations where communication is difficult, though English is widely spoken in tourist areas and by many Filipinos. Finally, having the Traveloka app on your phone is crucial for managing your bookings, discovering local attractions, and finding other services you might need during your stay.

i even couldnt check in, because there is no parking anywhere around this hotel for may be 6 km square ,the area is so unsafe , the street to the hotel barely fits one car and there were a lot of motorcycles parking there ,i barely could get out of that area safe , and it took me more than an hour to get out and then i ran away. its a pure scam.

Pictures do not reflect the photos. WiFi had broken. Water pressure almost nothing. No hot water. Mouldy old rooms. Dirty. Do not stay here.

I need a place to stay for one night due to an airport layover. This was a recommendation from hotels.com and from the looks and the price all was well. But once there there was a few problems. I was not expecting a four-star hotel, however I would expect some basic amenities to be as good as they could be at any level. I’m not that judge mental or hard to please on a hotel, however this is an exception. There was a loud noise playing at all hours, The air con did not put out sufficient cold air. Overall it was acceptable for a weary traveler. But could have been better even for a budget hotel.
