Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

Traveling to Tagaytay City from Manila is a popular choice for many Filipinos seeking a cool respite. The most common method is by bus, with numerous companies operating routes from major terminals like Pasay and Cubao. Bus fares typically range from PHP 150 to PHP 300, and the journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. Booking your flight to Manila first can often secure better deals if you're coming from further afield.

For those who prefer to drive, Tagaytay City is accessible via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway). The drive offers scenic views as you ascend into the highlands. Toll fees can vary but generally add a reasonable amount to the overall travel cost. Having your own vehicle provides flexibility for exploring the surrounding areas at your own pace.

If you are traveling from other major cities in the Philippines, you will likely need to fly into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. From NAIA, you can then proceed to Tagaytay via bus or private car. The convenience of booking your flight and onward travel through a single platform like Traveloka can simplify your planning process significantly.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City experiences a generally cooler climate throughout the year compared to Metro Manila, making it a pleasant destination anytime. However, the dry season, from November to April, is considered the peak tourist period. During these months, the weather is typically sunny and less humid, perfect for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenic views.

The months of December to February offer the coolest temperatures, making it ideal for those who truly want to experience Tagaytay's refreshing climate. However, this is also when the city is most crowded, especially during holidays and weekends. If you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November or March.

The rainy season runs from May to October. While you might encounter occasional downpours, these are often brief and followed by sunshine. The rain can add a dramatic beauty to the landscape, and hotel rates might be more affordable during this period. It's always a good idea to check the weather forecast before your trip and pack accordingly, perhaps including an umbrella or light rain jacket.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Tagaytay is a culinary delight, offering a range of flavors that appeal to Filipino palates. A must-try is Bulalo, a hearty soup made from beef shanks and bone marrow, slow-cooked until tender. The rich, clear broth is incredibly comforting, especially in Tagaytay's cooler climate. Many restaurants along the highway offer this specialty.

Another local favorite is Sinigang na Baboy or Hipon, a sour and savory soup that is a staple in Filipino households. The tamarind-based broth, filled with pork or shrimp and an assortment of vegetables, provides a tangy contrast to the cool air. It’s a dish that evokes a sense of home for many Filipinos.

For those with a sweet tooth, Tagaytay is famous for its Buko Pie. This delicious pie features a creamy young coconut filling encased in a flaky, golden-brown crust. It’s the perfect pasalubong (souvenir) to bring back home or to enjoy as a delightful dessert. Look for freshly baked pies from reputable local bakeries.

Don't forget to try the local coffee and pastries. Many cafes in Tagaytay offer locally sourced coffee beans, providing a rich and aromatic experience. Pair your coffee with ensaymada or other Filipino breads for a delightful merienda (afternoon snack). Exploring the diverse food scene is a significant part of the Tagaytay experience.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

I wasn’t able to enjoy the amenities of the hotel but was able to enjoy the hospitality and helpfulness of the very lovely staff. They went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and able to get a taxi around the very elusive Tagatay mountains. The room was average but large and comfortable. Only negative comment is that the bathroom needs an upgrade with some stains on the floor and rusting/limescale of the shower head.

The room I stayed in was terrible. The room smells like mildew and the water pressure was weak. I got sick after my stay there. Staffs are great. However, i paid almost $100 for one night and think that i paid to much for a subpar room.

Problem was the headboard, which was made of fabric. Same smell. Good points: Fast check in and check out. Buffet breakfast was very good with many choices. Excellent service. Will still go back.

Hotel staff was extremely polite and helpful. Rooms 512 & 508 were horrible. Not what the picture shows, there were no towel swans on our beds. In fact the towels we had were thin and worn out. The bathroom is so small your knees touch the wall and you have to move around to open the door. Water pressure was low. The internet WiFi didn’t work in 512 and was poor in 508. The walls were stained with water from the AC unit and the floor in 508 was separating. Beds had a fitted sheet and comforter, no flat sheet. My room had dirty floors and a dirty balcony. Paid top dollar for the rooms but felt like I was staying in a 1 Star place. The breakfast area was very nice and staff was polite and pleasant.

Overall stay was great. Only thing we didn't like was the pool. It's not heated but view from pool deck was exhilerating. Hope they take time to improve it.

Hotel is a really good place, nice room with good amenities. Room is clean, but is smaller size than what we expected. Only con is that you can hear everything in the room. Our room is facing the function room and there was a party on our first night and my husband was not able to sleep until about 4am, when the party ended. Traffic is also bad in the area, but it is not the hotel's fault. The roads in Tagaytay is just really narrow. Besides that, our stay has been wonderful. Food is really good. Staff are all friendly and accomodating too.

The 1st room they gave us smells like an old house and the bed sheets was not in good condition. The 2nd room provided to us was a connecting room. The other room has an infant and we can really hear the baby when he's crying so we asked to be transferred to another room because we booked for 2 nights.

The room is clean and in order, but you can easily hear even a small talk from the room next to you.

We didn't notice until the next day, but there was dried up fecal matter in the mattress. Apparently it was not replaced and cleaned before we checked in. The room was too small for the price.

Room is very smalll. Towels are old and look like rags. Only 1 key can be given despite paying for 3 guests in one room. Ordered pizza for room service and was not given a plate nor fork nor napkin! Selection in the Food in breakfast buffet was not that good.

We stayed at room 208. Room was ok problem is the smell of the pillows. It was stinky and we immediately requested housekeeping to change the pillows which was promptly done. Problem was the headboard, which was made of fabric. Same smell. Good points: Fast check in and check out. Buffet breakfast was very good with many choices. Excellent service. Will still go back.
