Your Travel Guide to Parañaque as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Parañaque from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is the most common method. NAIA is conveniently located near Parañaque. Flight prices can vary significantly, but booking in advance through platforms like Traveloka can help you find competitive fares, with some domestic flights starting from PHP 2,000 to PHP 5,000 depending on the origin and season.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces in Luzon, taking a bus is a more economical option. Numerous bus companies operate routes to Parañaque, with fares typically ranging from PHP 300 to PHP 800. The journey can take anywhere from 3 to 8 hours, depending on your starting point and traffic conditions.

For those driving their own vehicles, major expressways like the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CApex) provide access to Parañaque. Be prepared for toll fees, which can add up, and factor in potential traffic delays, especially during peak hours. Planning your route and checking traffic updates before you depart is always a good idea.

Best Time to Visit Parañaque

Parañaque, like much of Metro Manila, experiences a tropical climate. The dry season, generally from November to April, offers the most pleasant weather for exploring. During these months, you can expect sunny days with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Temperatures typically range from 25°C to 33°C.

The wet season runs from May to October. While this period can bring frequent rain showers, they are often short-lived and can even offer a refreshing break from the heat. Traveling during the shoulder months of the wet season, like May or October, might offer fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices.

For the best balance of good weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the cooler months of the dry season, from November to February. This period avoids the intense heat of March and April and the heavier rains of the monsoon season, providing a comfortable environment for enjoying all that Parañaque and Metro Manila have to offer.

Food and Dining Near Parañaque — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Parañaque is a gateway to diverse culinary experiences, reflecting the rich flavors of Filipino cuisine. When you visit, make sure to try *Adobo*, the national dish, a savory and tangy stew of meat (often chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. It’s a staple in every Filipino household and restaurant.

Another must-try is *Sinigang*, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth, meat, and an assortment of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct sourness is a beloved characteristic that offers a comforting and refreshing taste.

Don't leave without sampling *Lechon*, a whole roasted pig known for its crispy skin and succulent meat. While often reserved for special occasions, you can find excellent *Lechon* stalls and restaurants in and around Parañaque. For a lighter option, try *La Paz Batchoy*, a hearty noodle soup with pork, shrimp, and vegetables, originating from Iloilo but popular nationwide.

For dessert, indulge in *Halo-Halo*, a popular Filipino mixed-fruit dessert with shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down on a warm day. Exploring local eateries and food parks in Parañaque will introduce you to these and many other delicious Filipino specialties.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Parañaque

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) is always appreciated. Respect for elders is paramount, so using terms like "po" and "opo" when speaking to older individuals shows good manners.

When it comes to safety, Parañaque is generally safe for tourists, but it's always wise to exercise caution. Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid displaying expensive items openly. Keep your valuables secure and be mindful of petty theft. In case of emergencies, the local police hotline is 911.

For navigating the city and staying connected, several apps are highly recommended. Grab is essential for transportation, allowing you to book rides easily. Google Maps is invaluable for navigation, and Zomato or Foodpanda can help you discover local dining spots and order food delivery. Having these apps on your smartphone will greatly enhance your travel experience in Parañaque.

The free shuttle from and to the airport was great. As was the restaurant, which served good food at a very reasonable price. I was disappointed with the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in my room. Plus TV access was very limited ( could only watch YouTube). But was only staying one night before catching a domestic flight to my destination. It was not a big problem.

* we were attempting to organise airport transfers by messaging the hotel through the app, but received no response to our messages. We had to make special arrangements for a call from overseas to access this service * transfers were finally organised, but noone showed up until an hour and a half after the flight landed. After half an hour of waiting outside the airport, we called and were told the driver was there, but he didn’t turn up for another half hour after that. After 28 hours in transit, the last thing you want to do is stand outside the airport for an hour, waiting for a pickup. * the room was sparse, almost monastic, with concrete walls and no window. No artwork or anything to reduce the feel of being in a cell. * everything was noisy. The air conditioner rattled terribly, there were trolleys being pushed up the passage and doors slamming all night, and people calling out to each other. In the morning the room was right next to the restaurant, so we were awoken to the sound of cutlery and crockery clinking and conversations, starting from about 6am. Not ideal when we only finally made it to our room at 3am. * the room had no hot water in the shower. We reported this to the front desk, who said they called housekeeping. noone showed to fix anything before we were picked up for our transport into town, and we weren't offered any alternative arrangements. so after a very long transit and a poor sleep, we couldn’t even have a hot shower before starting our visit.

The room was clean and comfortable, the only downside was they only gave us one bottle of water, but quickly brought us a couple more. Breakfast was good and came quickly, we will stay again next time we are in the Philippines

It wasn’t the Taj Mahal but it was better than expected for the price. Great place to sleep off the jet lag, great staff.

Roaches in both rooms. I mean multiple living roaches. I left and they didn’t want to refund me at all. Expedia helped to get the refund.

We contacted to hotel several times before the trip to ask where the shuttle would pick up. No response. We had to take a cab to the hotel. It was clean, but rooms needed some maintenance and updates.

We enjoyed our stay at Oyster because it was very convenient. The place was near the airport. The staff and services offered were wonderful.

Hot shower was not working! And the room was facing the street so it was so loud. And the worst thing was, cockroaches were everywhere the room! So gross
