We had a pleasant stay at Panja Resort. The staff are friendly. The place is near Baker's Hill (one of the tourist spots included in the city tour), around 10-15 minutes' walk from the hotel. Mitra's Ranch is also near it, but we were not able to go there due to our time limit. They also have a free ride from and to Robinsons mall. You may want to check their schedules. Also, they have free airport transfer from the hotel (only).

The guest service associates at Panja Resort were exceptionally welcoming, helpful and accommodating. Indeed, they graciously granted our request for a room that suited our needs. The buffet breakfast was delicious and the menu was varied and not repetitive. Our room was clean and spacious. My wife and I had a wonderful and memorable Valentine's dinner at Panja Resort, further enhanced by Simon's serenade in his Kenny Rodgers-esque tone. The servers were excellent and polite. Upon returning to our room after dinner, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the Panja staff had arranged a thoughtful gesture on our bed, using towels and flowers to create a design with the words “I ❤️ U” and a handwritten note on a leaf. We extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff of Panja Resort especially to Shae for making our stay truly unforgettable.

Your Travel Guide to Puerto Princesa as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Puerto Princesa from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

The most convenient way to reach Puerto Princesa from Manila and other major Philippine cities like Cebu or Clark is by air. Several airlines operate daily flights to Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS). You can typically find round-trip fares ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000, depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets. The flight duration from Manila is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.

For budget-conscious travelers, bus travel is an option, though significantly longer. From Manila, you can take a bus to Batangas port, then a ferry to Puerto Princesa. This journey can take over 24 hours and involves multiple transfers. While less common for direct travel to Puerto Princesa, it's a route for those who prefer overland and sea travel and have ample time.

Driving to Puerto Princesa is not a practical option for most travelers coming from Luzon due to the vast distance and sea crossings required. However, if you are already in Palawan and have a private vehicle, you can navigate the provincial roads. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition and you have a reliable GPS or map.

Best Time to Visit Puerto Princesa

The ideal time to visit Puerto Princesa is generally during the dry season, which runs from November to May. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and calmer seas, perfect for island hopping and exploring the famous Underground River. Temperatures typically range from 26°C to 32°C, making it pleasant for outdoor activities.

The wet season, from June to October, brings occasional rainfall, which can range from light showers to heavier downpours. While this period might see fewer tourists and potentially lower prices, some tours and activities, especially those involving boat travel, might be affected by weather conditions. However, the lush greenery during this time is also quite beautiful.

For Filipino travelers looking to avoid peak crowds and potentially find better deals on accommodation and flights, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as late May or early November. These periods often offer a good balance of favorable weather and fewer tourists, allowing for a more relaxed exploration of Puerto Princesa's attractions.

Food and Dining Near Puerto Princesa — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No trip to Puerto Princesa is complete without indulging in its local culinary delights. A must-try is the **Kinilaw**, a Filipino version of ceviche, where fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili. It’s a refreshing appetizer that perfectly captures the coastal flavors of Palawan. You can find excellent Kinilaw in many local eateries and restaurants.

Another local specialty is **Tamilok**, a type of woodworm harvested from mangrove trees and typically served fresh, often dipped in vinegar. While it might sound adventurous, it's a unique delicacy that many locals and brave tourists seek out. It has a briny, slightly sweet taste and a chewy texture.

For seafood lovers, grilled fish and other fresh catches are abundant. Many restaurants offer a variety of seafood prepared in simple yet delicious ways, allowing the natural flavors to shine. Look for places serving **Lato**, a type of seaweed salad that is crisp and refreshing, often seasoned with tomatoes and onions.

Don't forget to try **Halo-Halo** for dessert. While available throughout the Philippines, each region has its own twist. Puerto Princesa's version is a delightful mix of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, and topped with leche flan and ube ice cream. It’s the perfect way to cool down after a day under the sun.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Puerto Princesa

Puerto Princesa is known for its friendly and hospitable locals. When interacting, a simple "po" and "opo" show respect, especially when speaking to elders. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service. Be mindful of local customs, particularly when visiting religious sites, and dress modestly.

Safety in Puerto Princesa is generally good, with low crime rates. However, as with any travel destination, it's wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure, be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas, and avoid walking alone in poorly lit places late at night. For emergencies, the local police hotline is 911.

When it comes to essential apps, having a reliable map application like Google Maps is crucial for navigating the city and finding your way to attractions and restaurants. A translation app can be helpful if you encounter locals who speak less English. For booking transportation or tours, consider using the Traveloka app, which also allows you to book hotel rooms and flights.

Another useful app could be a weather forecast app to help you plan your daily activities, especially if you are visiting during the rainy season. Having these digital tools readily available on your smartphone will significantly enhance your travel experience, making your exploration of Puerto Princesa smoother and more enjoyable.

After several island hopping stops in the Philippines, Panja Resort was the most memorable. I might categorize this property as a medium sized full service hotel. The front desk: Hana, Kath, Joann and Kaye went above and beyond to help us schedule tours and planning. No one ever helped us as much as this wonderful group. I also want to acknowledge Kat in the restaurant. She extended superior customer service despite not the best behavior of our 2 year old. She is truly a special person. Thank you everyone for the stay.

Staff were super friendly, always ready to help. For example, the maintenance worker and security guard informed us that we had a flat tire, they then filled the tire with air for us. Before I could get it fixed, it was flat again. I asked the staff if they had a car jack so that my husband can place the spare on, but they did it themselves without hesitation. I would highly recommend staying here while visiting Puerto Princesa City.

Really impressed with Panja. I had a great three days relaxing by the pool and eating at the restaurant. Great shuttle bus service to the main tourist spots around.

I have rated them several times and I don't want anyone to think I'm a bit posting 5 star reviews to pack this place.i spent 3 nights last week there and 3 nights in a sad place on the beach of El Nido. Simply put 2nd time I a year I stayed a week in Palawan. So simply next time I go I will stay the whole week at panjy. Can't find anywhere else with all it has to offer.

I stayed here in April 24 with my fiance, we came back cause this place is a gem and very reasonable price. It's not on a major roadway but accessible to anywhere. The pool is incredible, views are awesome, there's some farming on the site. Rooms are nice and great beds and pillows. If you don't give this place a try, well you areissing out.

Very nice resort just outside of the main town, great for a short stay, we had no issues during our stay, very clean and comfortable and the staff and food were both great. Salamat

Food not as good as month of May. Choices were clearly less. Dori fish thin and undercooked. Bathrooms definitely need to be upgraded. Service good but most staff changed. Marvin is always a shining star and remembered us

The hotel is good for a short stay. My room had all types of bugs to include bed bugs. The female staff needs training on how to interact with solo female guests. They kept staring 😮. I guess their way of seeing if you can afford the bill, they asked, where's your husband ❓❓I was asked that question a lot in the Philippines, but it was very noticable at this hotel. I found it interesting that the male staff were more comfortable serving and being in my presence. The experience made me feel as though I was in a mere 3 start hotel versus a resort.

It's off the main roads but minutes away from them. It has a view to die for. The staff as most of the Filipino people are, well just super polite and gracious. If I go back to Palawan I know where I will stay. Worth a visit and you'll see why, plus the food and breakfast is incredible not to mention the rooftop bar and beautiful swimming pool.

Incredibly disappointed with our stay. When we arrived, despite having a confirmed booking they didn’t have enough room for our entire stay. Housekeeping didn’t visit our rooms unless specifically asked, building works going on at all hours, transfers given away, and awful communication. The staff was nice but unable to help at most occasions, due to poor management. I would not stay here again and would urge other to never stay here to avoid stress and disappointment.

For the most part, we loved this place! It's aesthetically pleasing, with beautiful grounds and views. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Free transportation is available to and from town. The breakfast could use a little improvement, but overall it's fine. Highly recommend!

The place is very well kept. The room and its amenities are enough to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The resort all in all is amazing. Will recommend and will come back if I visit Puerto Prinsesa again. The staff however are top notch. Their kindness and hospitality is something you look for while on vacation. Hoping they get compensated more and more.. Great experience overall.
