The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly but not many good restaurants are in the area. A few times we didn't have hot water for the shower but when we reported it within minutes someone came and fixed it.

Your Travel Guide to Bacolod City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Bacolod City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For Filipino travelers planning a trip to Bacolod City, reaching the "City of Smiles" is quite straightforward, with several convenient options available from major hubs like Manila and Cebu. The most popular and fastest way to get to Bacolod is by air. Major airlines such as Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate daily flights from Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport - NAIA) to Bacolod-Silay International Airport (BCD). Flight duration is typically around 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Fares can vary significantly depending on the season and how far in advance you book flight tickets, but expect prices to range from approximately PHP 2,500 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip during non-peak periods. Booking in advance is highly recommended to secure better rates.

From Cebu (Mactan-Cebu International Airport - CEB), flights to Bacolod-Silay International Airport are also frequent, with a shorter flight time of about 50 minutes. This makes Bacolod an easily accessible destination for those in the Visayas region. Airlines operating this route often offer competitive pricing, with round-trip fares potentially ranging from PHP 1,800 to PHP 4,000.

For travelers coming from Mindanao, particularly Davao, direct flights to Bacolod are less common, and it might be more practical to fly via Manila or Cebu.

For those who prefer a more scenic and budget-friendly journey, land and sea travel are viable options, though significantly longer. From Manila, you can take a bus to various ports in Batangas or Lucena, and then board a ferry to Bacolod. This sea route can take anywhere from 12 to 20 hours, depending on the ferry operator and route.

Bus fares from Manila to the ports can range from PHP 800 to PHP 1,200, and ferry tickets vary based on the class of service. This option is best suited for travelers who have ample time and wish to experience more of the Philippines' diverse landscapes.

Best Time to Visit Bacolod City

Bacolod City experiences a tropical climate, characterized by warm temperatures and distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season, generally from November to April, is considered the most favorable time to visit for many Filipino travelers. During these months, the weather is typically sunny with lower humidity, making it ideal for outdoor activities, exploring the city's attractions, and enjoying the beaches in nearby areas.

The period leading up to and including the MassKara Festival in October is also a popular time, though it can be crowded.

The wet season, from May to October, brings with it higher chances of rainfall, often in the form of short, intense downpours. While this season might see fewer tourists and potentially lower accommodation prices, it's important to be prepared for occasional disruptions to outdoor plans. However, the rain can also bring a refreshing coolness to the tropical heat.

For travelers who prefer a more relaxed pace and fewer crowds, visiting during the shoulder months of the wet season, like May or October (outside of the festival), can offer a good balance. Ultimately, the best time to visit depends on your personal preferences for weather, crowd levels, and budget.

Food and Dining Near Bacolod City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Bacolod City is renowned as the "Food Capital of the Philippines," and for good reason. Filipino travelers visiting this culinary comfortable base must indulge in the local specialties that define its gastronomic identity. Foremost among these is Chicken Inasal, a grilled chicken dish marinated in a mixture of calamansi, pepper, and annatto oil, giving it a distinct smoky flavor and vibrant orange hue.

The best Inasal is often found in local eateries and specialty restaurants, where the chicken is grilled over charcoal, infusing it with an irresistible aroma. Look for places that serve it with a side of garlic rice and a dipping sauce of soy sauce, vinegar, and calamansi.

Another must-try is Piaya, a flat, unleavened bread filled with muscovado sugar and sometimes yema (custard). This sweet pastry is a popular pasalubong (take-home gift) and a delightful snack. You can find freshly made piaya in local bakeries and markets throughout Bacolod. The texture is soft and slightly chewy, with a rich, caramelized sweetness from the muscovado. It pairs wonderfully with a cup of hot coffee or tea.

For those with a sweet tooth, Cansi is a local delicacy that offers a unique flavor profile. It's a rich, sour beef soup, similar to bulalo but with a distinct sourness derived from batuan fruit. The tender beef, combined with the tangy broth and vegetables, creates a comforting and flavorful dish. It’s a hearty soup that showcases the local use of indigenous ingredients.

Don't leave Bacolod without trying Napoleones, a layered puff pastry filled with creamy custard and topped with a caramelized sugar glaze. This sweet treat is evidence of the city's French-influenced culinary heritage. While available in many bakeries, some establishments are particularly famous for their versions, offering a delicate crispness and a smooth, sweet filling that is simply divine.

Finally, for a taste of authentic Negrense cuisine, explore the local markets and carinderias for dishes featuring fresh seafood and local produce. Bacolod's proximity to the coast means that fresh fish, prawns, and other seafood are readily available and prepared in various delicious ways. Trying these local dishes offers a genuine connection to the culture and flavors of Negros Occidental.

Nothing. Their are ants crawling around. The water in the shower is cold. Door is very hard to open. Only one key for the room. I’ve requested for another key for my husband and they won’t give it to us. They won’t allow us to charge our dinner. They only want cash.

The staff are great, but the place is getting dated. Bed and pillows are worn out and hard. Water was barely warm for a shower and the food was awful.

Hotel location is good, service and the employees are excellent but overall cleanliness of the facilities leaves a lot to be desired example, molds in the bathroom shower tile, smelly air coming out of the bathroom floor, the ladies bathroom in the main lobby has very poor exhaust system that I vomited because of it’s lingering foul smell . My husband said that the men’s main lobby bathroom smell was ok. If the hotel can just give more attention to cleanliness and sanitation we will consider returning as employees are excellent and hard working.

The hotel looks old inside due to lobby not being lit well. My daughter said it looks spooky because the lobby was dark when you enter it. The room has ants and cockroaches (baby ones) when we first entered the rooom. The staff were very attentive though. Smells of smoke in the lobby. The hotel is not that old from my knowledge but it was not maintained well, so it looks old in the inside.

The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly but not many good restaurants are in the area. A few times we didn't have hot water for the shower but when we reported it within minutes someone came and fixed it.

when I booked the room it was a room for 2 with breakfast. When we got here they said breakfast was for 1. Any other time I booked a room in the U.S. or in the Philippines I got breakfast for me and my wife 1 room for 2 and 2 breakfast.

The room was spacious. Our only complaint was that it was noisy. The airconditioning unit was making a tik-tok sound the whole time. There was a machine right outside our room that made a loud sound everytime it switched on and off. You could also hear people walking and talking outside.

There’s only one snall pillow 😟. The next room was so loud until I drifted to sleep at 1am , I think people from the prom. Dark room. One big lamp shade was broken. I checked in late so no time to request for anything to be fixed.
