Your Travel Guide to Tagaytay City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Tagaytay City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For travelers coming from Manila, the most common way to reach Tagaytay City is by bus. Major bus terminals in Metro Manila, such as those in Cubao and Pasay, offer direct routes to Tagaytay. The journey typically takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on traffic conditions, with fares generally ranging from PHP 200 to PHP 300. Planning your trip and considering to book flight tickets to Manila first if coming from other islands is a practical approach.

Driving is another popular option, especially for groups or families. From Metro Manila, you can take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and then the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway) towards Batangas, with clear signage directing you to Tagaytay. Toll fees can add up, so it's wise to budget around PHP 500 to PHP 700 for round-trip tolls, in addition to fuel costs.

For those coming from other major Philippine cities, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is usually the most efficient first step. From NAIA, you can then proceed to take a bus or arrange for private transportation to Tagaytay City. This multi-modal approach allows for flexibility depending on your origin and travel preferences.

Best Time to Visit Tagaytay City

The cooler months, from November to February, are generally considered the best time to visit Tagaytay City. During this period, the weather is pleasantly cool, with temperatures often dropping to the mid-20s Celsius, making it ideal for outdoor activities and enjoying the scenic views. This is also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher accommodation prices.

The "ber" months, particularly September to November, can also offer a refreshing experience, though with a higher chance of rain. If you prefer fewer crowds and potentially better deals on accommodation, visiting during the shoulder months or the slightly rainier season can still be very rewarding, provided you are prepared for occasional downpours.

For travelers who enjoy a bit of sunshine and warmth, the months of March to May offer warmer temperatures, though still considerably cooler than Metro Manila. This period is also popular, especially around Holy Week and summer breaks, so booking in advance is recommended.

Food and Dining Near Tagaytay City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Tagaytay is renowned for its Bulalo, a hearty soup made from beef shanks and bone marrow, slow-cooked until tender. The rich, flavorful broth is perfect for Tagaytay's cool climate. Many restaurants along the highway offer excellent Bulalo, with popular spots like Mahogany Market's food stalls providing an authentic and affordable experience.

Another local favorite is the Buko Pie, a sweet Filipino delicacy made with young coconut filling encased in a flaky pastry crust. It's a perfect pasalubong (souvenir) to bring home. You can find freshly baked Buko Pies in numerous bakeries and roadside stalls throughout Tagaytay, with Rowena's and The Original Buko Pie being well-known establishments.

For those who enjoy savory dishes, Tagaytay offers delicious versions of Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, often made with pork or fish. The tamarind-based broth is both comforting and refreshing. Many local eateries and restaurants serve this classic Filipino dish, providing a taste of home.

Don't forget to try the local strawberries, often sold fresh at roadside stands, especially near farms. They are sweeter and juicier than those found in other regions. You can enjoy them fresh, in milkshakes, or as part of desserts like strawberry taho, a local variation of the popular street food.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Tagaytay City

Tagaytay City is known for its generally relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Filipinos are typically hospitable, and a simple "po" and "opo" when addressing elders or showing respect goes a long way. Be mindful of local customs, especially when visiting religious sites like Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, by dressing modestly.

Safety in Tagaytay is generally good, but like any tourist destination, it's wise to remain aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying excessive wealth. In case of emergencies, local police can be reached at their hotline numbers, which are usually posted in public areas or can be found online.

For communication and navigation, ensure you have a reliable mobile signal. Apps like Google Maps are essential for getting around, especially if you plan to explore areas beyond the main highway. Ride-hailing apps can also be useful for getting around the city if you don't have your own vehicle.

Consider downloading weather apps to stay updated on Tagaytay's famously unpredictable weather, which can change quickly. Having these tools readily available will help you plan your activities more effectively and ensure a smoother, more enjoyable trip.

Last time we visited was before the lockdown. We were there thrice of 4 times that year. The place was amazingly clean and impeccable. The pool was crystal clear. Service was warm and everybody was super attentive. The restaurant-Dekada, served delicious and affordable food. These are the reasons why we decided to go back. Unfortunately, it was all bad. Let's start with communicating with the hotel: it took me 2 whole days of trying all the numbers in their Facebook page to communicate with them our room transfer plans. 2 days. We only got an answer the afternoon before we checked-in. Next was the room-the walls and floor were damp. Room attendant said that housekeeping just finished “wiping” them. They could have aired it our for a while before letting us in. Bed bug were present, unfortunately, so my toddler and I are now nursing very itchy bites. We asked for extra pillows and were charged 35 a piece. It was okay since we want to be comfortable while sleeping. We waited for an hour or so so we decided to follow up-only to be told that there are no more extra pillows left. The veranda 's floor was not swept. The bathroom is another story-molds were visible in the tiles beneath the glass partition and some parts of the grouts are not scrubbed properly. The toilet seat was broken, you cannot sit on it properly since the cover cannot be fully extended. Ants were everywhere and there is no bathroom rug available. The pool. Can't even see the tiles at the side underneath the water. It 's like it was mixed with powder and cannot smell a hint of chlorine at all. It was like that for 4 days so I cannot attribute the blurry water used by the sunscreen of the few swimmers I saw using the pool. We thought eating at Dekada, the restaurant, will compensate all our disappointments. Taste was so so this time and one of our orders was raw. Showed it to the staff and said they will just cook it longer. I stopped him since a portion of the item was already taken apart so it was already “contaminated” so to speak. Cooking it again will just contaminate the oil and utensils to be used. We ordered arroz caldo for breakfast and it was horrible. Beef tapa meat was like chewing gum so our son ended up just eating the egg. It was a really bad experience. We miss the old hotel.

Check In Time - We arrived before 1pm, checked the reservation at the reception & we knew the check in time was 2pm. It was 2pm when I talked to the reception if I could enter the room, they said they weren't ready minaMOP yet, we were in the morning but not READY yet. we didn't complain anymore, maybe they just lacked people but a lot of people were able to enter their room. BREAKFAST - THEY ASKED TIME WITH US FOR FOOD 8.30 BUT WE WERE SLEEPING BECAUSE WE SLEEP AGAIN 9.06 AT THE RECEPTION I ASKED FOR A DECADE TO REST? I really love this place and it exceeded my expectations. The room is very spacious and they gave me a room near the pool area when I requested it. Staff is very accommodating as well. The hotel is also close to everything that you need. We also enjoyed the massage at their spa and were able to play billiards and enjoy the pool. We will definitely go back here! Thank you Royale Parc Hotel!:) 💜

The room was spacious and clean. Suitable for families and groups. They can probably improve on breakfast choices but overall, hotel offered bang for the buck.

Great customer service. Food is okay. Location is the best. Spacious bathrooms and good set of toiletries. Not very strict with health protocols. Cold pool-no heater for the pool.

Clogged c. Are, it takes minutes for the water to drain. Remote for the TV not working, you have to stand on front of the TV to change channels. No hot water, maintenance said it"tripped", had it working afterwards though. And lastly, the room reeks of pungy smell, like somebody spilled something and didn't clean it enough, good thing I have lysol Stayed at room 102.

Very good service (except when our breakfast was delivered in our room 30 mins late)! The staffs were very polite and approachable Rooms and common areas were very clean and well-maintained. The place is peaceful, relaxing and very accessible to other tourist spots in Tagaytay. However! If you'd like to have a room with pool view, I suggest you book the deluxe room. We originally booked the superior room. They gave us the room in the corner where you only see the mini playground and some big pipes. They also forgot to put toiletries and the phones our the room had no dial tone so we were compelled to go to the main desk for our needs. Oh, and the towels were smelly🙃 The jacuzzi is just some bubbling water. I thought the water would be a bit warm. But still, I enjoyed it. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. I'd still go back here! Definitely!😌
