Hotel service is excellent. Everyone is friendly. Love the bar tender from Boracy; he’s very entertaining and the attendant from Surigao. Sorry I forgot their names. the room is clean. I like the Zumba and yoga. I only wish that the beach is swim able. We order the Kilawin from the bar as one of our appetizers. Please tell the chef not to put the hot chili pepper. Seriously so hot that we burn the roof of our mouth.

Your Travel Guide to General Luna, Siargao Islands as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to General Luna, Siargao Islands from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Reaching the tropical destination of General Luna, Siargao Islands, is an adventure in itself, and for Filipino travelers, understanding the most convenient routes is key. From Manila, the most direct and popular method is by air. Several airlines offer book flight services to Siargao Airport (Sayak Airport, SUG). Flights typically depart from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 2 or 3. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Airlines like Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific often have daily flights. Fares can fluctuate significantly based on booking time and season, but expect prices to range from PHP 3,000 to PHP 8,000 or more for a round trip if booked in advance.

For travelers coming from Cebu or Davao, similar flight options are available, often with shorter flight times. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines also operate routes to Siargao from these major hubs. A flight from Cebu to Siargao usually takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes, while from Davao, it’s about 1 hour. These routes can sometimes be more budget-friendly than those from Manila, especially if booked during promotional periods.

Upon arrival at Siargao Airport, you’ll need to take a van or a taxi to General Luna, which is about a 45-minute to 1-hour drive. Van transfers are commonly arranged by resorts or can be hailed at the airport, typically costing around PHP 300-500 per person.

While flying is the most efficient way to reach Siargao, some adventurous travelers might consider a combination of ferry and land travel, though this is significantly more time-consuming. The primary ferry route to Siargao is from Surigao City. Travelers from Manila or other parts of Luzon would first need to travel to Surigao City, either by flight to Surigao Airport or by bus and ferry.

From Surigao City port, fast ferries to Siargao (Dapa Port) take approximately 2 hours, with fares around PHP 250-300. From Dapa Port, you would then take a tricycle or van to General Luna, another 45-minute to 1-hour journey. This multi-leg journey is best suited for those with ample time and a desire for a more immersive travel experience.

Best Time to Visit General Luna, Siargao Islands

Siargao Islands experiences a tropical climate, with distinct seasons that influence the travel experience. For Filipino travelers planning their visit, understanding these patterns can help in choosing the ideal time to go. The peak season, generally running from September to March, coincides with the dry season and is also when the surf conditions are at their best, particularly for experienced surfers drawn to Cloud 9.

During these months, the weather is typically sunny with lower chances of rain, making it perfect for island hopping, beach activities, and exploring the island’s natural beauty. However, this is also the busiest period, meaning more crowds at popular spots and potentially higher accommodation and flight prices.

The shoulder months, such as April to May, can offer a good balance. The weather is still generally favorable, with warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine, but the crowds are usually smaller than during the peak season. This can lead to a more relaxed atmosphere and potentially better deals on flights and accommodation. For travelers who prefer a quieter experience and still want to enjoy the island’s offerings, these months are highly recommended.

The wet season typically falls from June to August, with a higher chance of rainfall. However, this doesn't mean constant downpours; Siargao often experiences tropical showers that are usually brief, followed by sunshine. This period can be ideal for budget-conscious travelers or those seeking a more laid-back vibe, as there are fewer tourists. While surf conditions might be less consistent for advanced surfers, beginner waves can still be found, and the lush, green scenery is particularly beautiful during this time.

For most visitors, aiming for the dry season from September to March offers the most reliable weather for a wide range of activities, but the shoulder months provide a great alternative for a less crowded, yet still enjoyable, trip.

Food and Dining Near General Luna, Siargao Islands — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

For Filipino travelers, exploring the local flavors is an essential part of the experience. One dish you absolutely must try is fresh grilled seafood. Given its island location, Siargao boasts an abundance of freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns.

Many local eateries and restaurants offer simple yet delicious preparations, often grilled over charcoal and served with a side of rice and soy sauce with calamansi. Look for small, unassuming carinderias or beachfront restaurants for the most authentic and often most affordable options.

Another local specialty that captures the essence of island living is Kinilaw. Similar to ceviche, this dish features raw fish (often tuna or tanigue) marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers. The acidity of the vinegar "cooks" the fish, resulting in a refreshing and tangy appetizer or light meal. The quality of the fish in Siargao makes for an exceptionally flavorful Kinilaw, and you'll find variations across different eateries, each with its unique twist.

It’s a perfect palate cleanser and a true taste of the Philippines.

The rich broth, tender pork, and various toppings make it a satisfying dish. For those with a sweet tooth, fresh tropical fruits are abundant. Mangoes, coconuts, and bananas are readily available and incredibly sweet and juicy.

Enjoy them as they are, or try local desserts like Halo-Halo, a popular Filipino shaved ice dessert that’s perfect for cooling down on a hot day. Many restaurants and street vendors offer these delights, providing a taste of local life.

Safety in Siargao is generally good, especially in tourist areas like General Luna. However, as with any travel destination, it’s wise to take standard precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, particularly in crowded places or at night. When renting motorbikes, ensure you have a valid license and always wear a helmet.

I am forever grateful for the Manager Ricardo and the staff of Siargao Bleu for helping us during our vacation when my father had medical emergency and he died. Because of their compassion, kindness and helped that Ricardo and his staff provided it made the ordeal much easier for the family to complete.

Overall a very good property with nice amenities. The only negative thing I can point out is our shower only had hot water one time in the three days I stayed there

Everything was excellent except the WiFi wouldn't work for half our stay so we couldn't check into our flight.

The staff was amazing! Very friendly, helpful, and caring! The resort overall wasn't the greatest. TV kept going in and out, wifi was hit or miss, one day the power went out twice. For the price point it wasn't worth it.

Airport transfer both ways are covered. Front desk answered our request quickly. Clean room. Quiet place. Ok breakfast. Beach bar staffs were on the phone the whole time when we were there the first night. Room experience was bad - the air-con was beeping the whole time for the last two night we stayed in; we can’t even rest at night. They changed our room on the check-out day after technician/ staff confirmed the air-con was broken. They agreed to extend my check-out time after I requested. Be aware of how many beers/ beverages in the mini-bar. Because they charged me for my own beer when I check-out. Rent motorbike right next door, it’s cheaper; 500 the first day, subsequently 350/day.

Well it was a wet kind of stay. It rained most of my stay. They had a great pool but had no time to experience it. The island hopping was great thanks for the arrangement made by the butler,

GREAT place to stay. Service was great! They were very helpful in organizing tours accommodated our needs. WiFi is terrible... but that is common around the island. I do think it’s a bit overpriced for the Philippines but it was enjoyable. Spa & gym are great amenities. Free bottled water & breakfast. Omelettes were delicious. The pool villa is stunning!

In my opinion, the property needs a renovation or a refurb really soon. So many maintenance problems. WiFi not working properly which is really surprising as a lot of the staff are always on their phones especially the guy in the Front Desk, I didn't get his name as he didn't really bother talking to his guests unless they're checking in or out. Which is really a shame because most of the staff are really friendly. We heard that this resort is the best in Siargao, if this is the best, then I'm really worried for the future of the island.
