Your Travel Guide to Quezon City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Quezon City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers coming from other parts of the Philippines, flying into Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila is the most common method. Major airlines operate frequent flights to Manila from key cities like Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo. You can often find competitive fares, especially if you book in advance. Use Traveloka to compare prices and book your flight to Manila.

Once you arrive at NAIA, you have several options to reach Quezon City. Taxis and ride-sharing services are readily available, offering a direct but potentially more expensive route. For a more budget-friendly option, you can take an airport bus or a public utility bus heading towards Quezon City. The travel time can vary significantly depending on traffic, typically ranging from 45 minutes to over an hour.

If you are traveling from nearby provinces, taking a bus is a practical and economical choice. Numerous bus terminals in Metro Manila serve routes to various parts of Quezon City. The fare is considerably lower than flying, and the journey offers a glimpse of the Philippine countryside. Driving your own vehicle is also an option, with major expressways connecting to Quezon City, though be prepared for potential traffic congestion.

Best Time to Visit Quezon City

Quezon City experiences a tropical climate, with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season generally runs from November to April, offering sunny days and lower humidity, making it an ideal period for outdoor activities and exploring the city. Temperatures during these months are warm, typically ranging from the mid-20s to low 30s Celsius.

The wet season, from May to October, is characterized by higher rainfall, often in the form of afternoon thunderstorms. While this period might see fewer tourists, it can also offer lower accommodation prices. If you plan to visit during the rainy season, it’s wise to pack an umbrella and rain gear, and to schedule indoor activities or be prepared for potential travel disruptions due to heavy downpours.

For the most pleasant weather, consider visiting during the cooler months of the dry season, from November to February. This period offers comfortable temperatures and less chance of rain, perfect for sightseeing and enjoying Quezon City's attractions. However, it's also considered peak tourist season, so booking accommodations and flights in advance is recommended.

Food and Dining Near Quezon City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

No visit to the Philippines is complete without indulging in Adobo, the unofficial national dish. This savory and tangy stew, typically made with chicken or pork braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and black peppercorns, is a staple in Filipino households and restaurants. You can find excellent versions in local eateries throughout Quezon City, offering a comforting and familiar taste.

Another must-try is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup that comes in various forms, often featuring tamarind broth with meat (pork, beef, or fish) and an assortment of vegetables like kangkong, radish, and tomatoes. Its distinct sourness is a beloved flavor profile for many Filipinos, providing a refreshing contrast to richer dishes. Look for it in carinderias or Filipino restaurants.

For a taste of grilled perfection, try Lechon Kawali, deep-fried crispy pork belly. The exterior is wonderfully crunchy, while the inside remains tender and juicy. It’s often served with a side of dipping sauce, usually soy sauce with vinegar and chili. This indulgent dish is a popular choice for celebrations and casual dining alike, and many restaurants in Quezon City offer it.

Don't forget to sample Halo-Halo, a popular Filipino dessert that translates to "mix-mix." This refreshing concoction is a delightful blend of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream. It's the perfect way to cool down on a warm day and offers a delightful explosion of textures and flavors.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Quezon City

Filipinos are known for their hospitality and respect for elders. When interacting with locals, a polite demeanor and a friendly smile go a long way. It's customary to use "po" and "opo" when addressing older individuals or those in positions of authority as a sign of respect. Understanding these basic cultural nuances will enhance your interactions.

When it comes to safety in Quezon City, like any large urban area, it's advisable to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items unnecessarily. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. If you encounter any issues, feel free to contact local authorities or seek assistance from hotel staff.

For essential communication and navigation, having a reliable smartphone is key. Consider downloading apps like Google Maps for navigation, Grab for ride-hailing and food delivery, and a translation app if you're not fluent in Tagalog. These tools can significantly simplify your daily movements and help you access services efficiently during your stay.

It's also wise to have the contact numbers for local emergency services readily available. Knowing where to find the nearest police station or hospital can be crucial in unexpected situations. Familiarizing yourself with these resources before you arrive will contribute to a more secure and stress-free travel experience in Quezon City.

I will not recommend this hotel. Not so clean all bed are made of stone and covers a mattress. I've been to OYO hotels nearby Quezon City but this hotel is not good. First we got to our first room there's a TV but luckily it's broken. There is no vanity kit you will pay for it. Even a small bottle of water it cost 30 per bot. Better luck next time maybe our first and last stay.
