The free breakfast was a major selling point for me and it was an excellent daily buffet from 6-10 AM. Check-in showed I had booked two rooms (I had one) but it was resolved within a few minutes. Staff in every area were eager to help. When and if I return to Baguio I’ll stay here again, I have no reason to consider a change.

Your Travel Guide to Baguio City as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Baguio City from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to Baguio City from Manila is a popular route for many Filipinos, and it can be done through various modes of transport. The most common way is by bus, with several reputable companies like Victory Liner and Genesis Transport operating frequent trips daily. Bus fares typically range from PHP 500 to PHP 800 for a one-way trip, and the journey takes approximately 4 to 6 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

For those who prefer to fly, the nearest airport is Loakan Airport in Baguio, but commercial flights are very limited. Most travelers opt to book flight to Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga, which is about a 2 to 3-hour bus or van ride from Baguio. Flights to Clark are often more frequent and can be more affordable, especially when booked in advance through platforms like Traveloka.

Driving to Baguio is also an option for those with their own vehicles. The primary route is via the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), leading to the TPLEX and then connecting to the MacArthur Highway and Marcos Highway or Kennon Road. Toll fees can add up, but the flexibility of having your own car in Baguio can be advantageous for exploring the surrounding areas.

Best Time to Visit Baguio City

Baguio City experiences a cooler climate year-round compared to the rest of the Philippines, making it a popular destination any time of the year. However, the peak tourist season generally runs from November to May, coinciding with the dry season and the Christmas holidays. During these months, the weather is pleasantly cool, with temperatures often dropping to as low as 15 degrees Celsius at night.

The months of June to October constitute the wet season, where Baguio can experience frequent rainfall, sometimes heavy, due to its mountainous location. While this period might deter some tourists, it also means fewer crowds and potentially lower accommodation prices. For travelers who don't mind occasional rain and prefer a more tranquil visit, the rainy season can still offer a refreshing experience, provided you pack appropriate rain gear.

For the best balance of pleasant weather and manageable crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder months, such as late May or early November. These periods often offer the cool Baguio air without the intense influx of tourists seen during major holidays or the absolute peak of summer. Regardless of when you choose to visit, Baguio City offers a unique charm that appeals to many Filipino travelers.

Food and Dining Near Baguio City — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Baguio City is a culinary delight, offering a range of flavors that reflect its unique culture and agricultural bounty. One dish you absolutely must try is the Baguio Longganisa, a local sausage that is typically sweeter and garlicky compared to other regional variations. It’s a breakfast staple and can be found in many local eateries and markets, often served with fried rice and eggs.

Another must-try is the Strawberry Taho, a local twist on the classic Filipino snack. Instead of the usual arnibal, it's made with fresh strawberry syrup, giving it a refreshing and slightly tart flavor that perfectly complements the soft tofu and sago pearls. You'll find vendors selling this delightful treat in popular spots like Burnham Park and Session Road.

For those seeking heartier fare, Pinikpikan is a traditional Igorot dish that is worth seeking out. This native chicken dish involves a unique preparation method that results in tender meat and a distinct flavor. It's often cooked with etag (smoked or salted pork) and vegetables, offering a taste of authentic Cordillera cuisine. Many local restaurants in Baguio serve this traditional dish.

Don't leave Baguio without trying their fresh strawberries. Whether eaten fresh, made into jam, or incorporated into desserts like strawberry shortcake, the strawberries here are renowned for their sweetness and quality. Visiting a strawberry farm or a local market to buy them directly is a popular activity for many tourists. These culinary experiences are integral to understanding the local culture and enjoying your trip to the fullest.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Baguio City

Baguio City is known for its friendly and respectful local culture. When interacting with residents, it's customary to be polite and patient. The city is home to various indigenous groups, and respecting their traditions and customs is important. While Baguio is generally safe, like any urban area, it's always wise to be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded places.

For safety, it's recommended to keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying expensive items openly. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, particularly at night. If you encounter any issues, the local police can be reached at their emergency hotline. It's also a good idea to have the hotel's contact information readily available.

Essential apps for your trip include navigation apps like Google Maps to help you find your way around the city and its attractions. Ride-hailing apps can also be useful for getting around, though local taxis are also readily available and generally affordable. For weather updates, especially during the rainy season, a reliable weather app can help you plan your day accordingly.

Consider downloading a translation app if you plan to interact extensively with locals who might speak Ilocano or other regional dialects, although English is widely understood. Having these tools at your disposal can significantly enhance your travel experience, making it easier to navigate, stay informed, and ensure a safe and enjoyable visit to Baguio City.

The room was clean and well-appointed with complete amenities, however, the phone line was not working. We informed Housekeeping about this upon our return from touring, but the phone issue persisted throughout our three-day stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, and the hotel staff were truly exceptional.

The bathroom had an opaque window on the top of the shower wall. That meant, if you used the bathroom in the middle of the night and turned on the light, the light would shine through that opaque window and light up the entire hotel room. It almost always woke up the other person. It wasn't even a faint light. It was very bright. There was a leak coming from 2 spots on the bathroom ceiling. I'm not sure how anyone could miss it when preparing the room. There was no extra roll of toilet paper in the room. I had to go out of my way to ask somebody for another roll. It seems silly to have to go through the extra effort to have to ask for it. You also have to be aware that you ask in time before you run out. Otherwise, the place was very nice and the staff was very courteous.

The staff was great, had a few issues but, they fixed them right away. My only real issue was checking in, they wouldn’t allow me to check in until right at 2 PM. The buffet breakfast was awesome, good selections

Room was nice, small but very clean and modern. I loved the screens on the windows and small balcony.

Great staff. As usual with pre-paid Expedia booking, I was not given a very good room. Had to change rooms and after that it was great.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The only negative is the residents that own part of the Sotogrande hang their clothes in their Balcony. It’s an eyesore.

Staff was great, breakfast very good. Had a little drink at the bar, could've been better if there's some kind of music or entertainment. Only problem is bathroom sink looks clogged water very slow to drain.

The room was excellent; however, the bathroom's design was unconventional, lacking a curtain or partition between the shower and the toilet.
