Great location, very close to the white sand beach. The room was spacious with a big porch overlooking the property and very clean with all the things we needed like kettle, big bottle of drinking water, hygiene kit, utensils and tableware. The staff were very accommodating from reception to housekeeping to the restaurant staff. Ervin was the driver who picked us up from the port and then the coastal tour, he is awesome. He took really good care of us, he was our tour guide and photographer. We had a wonderful, memorable stay. 5-star!!

I really wish they had a room available for our next stay. It makes complete sense why they're already fully booked, 2 1/2 months away. By a fluke, I got a room from them last-minute. Staff is super friendly and helpful. One of the waitresses at the restaurant even asked about food allergies, which is rare. They have motorbike rental on-site, which is extremely convenient.

Your Travel Guide to San Juan as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to San Juan from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Traveling to San Juan, Siquijor Island from Manila or other major Philippine cities primarily involves a combination of air and sea travel. The most common route is to fly into Dumaguete City (DGT) in Negros Oriental, which has regular flights from Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB). Flight fares can vary, but booking in advance through platforms like Traveloka can help you find competitive prices, often ranging from PHP 3,000 to PHP 7,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and airline. From Manila, expect a flight duration of about 1 hour and 30 minutes to Dumaguete.

Once you arrive at Dumaguete Airport, you'll need to take a short tricycle or taxi ride to the Dumaguete Port. From there, several ferry and fast craft operators offer daily trips to Siquijor Port. The ferry journey typically takes about 1 to 2 hours, with ticket prices usually ranging from PHP 250 to PHP 400. It's advisable to check the ferry schedules in advance, as they can change based on weather conditions and demand. You can often book flight tickets to Dumaguete and then arrange your ferry tickets upon arrival or through local ticketing agents.

Alternatively, you can fly to Tagbilaran Airport (TAG) in Bohol and take a ferry from the Tagbilaran Port to Siquijor. This route might be more convenient if you are already in or planning to visit Bohol. The ferry trip from Bohol to Siquijor is generally shorter than from Dumaguete. Once you reach Siquijor Port, tricycles and motorcycle taxis are readily available to take you to San Juan, which is about a 20-30 minute ride depending on traffic and your exact destination. Renting a motorcycle is also a popular option for exploring the island independently.

Best Time to Visit San Juan

The best time to visit San Juan, Siquijor Island, for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to May. During these months, the weather is generally sunny with less rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as beach hopping, swimming, snorkeling, and exploring the island's natural attractions. The seas are usually calmer, ensuring smoother ferry crossings and more pleasant boat trips for island tours.

The peak tourist season often falls between December and February, coinciding with the Christmas holidays and cooler weather in other parts of the Philippines. During this period, expect higher accommodation rates and more crowds. For a balance of good weather and fewer people, consider visiting during the shoulder months of November, March, April, or May. The months from June to October mark the wet season, with a higher chance of rain and occasional typhoons, which could disrupt travel plans and limit outdoor activities.

Food and Dining Near San Juan — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Siquijor, including the San Juan area, offers a delightful culinary scene that reflects Filipino flavors with a local island twist. One dish you absolutely must try is fresh grilled seafood. Given its island location, Siquijor boasts an abundance of freshly caught fish, squid, and prawns. Many local eateries and carinderias offer these grilled to perfection, often served with a side of soy sauce, calamansi, and chili, a classic Filipino favorite.

Another local specialty worth seeking out is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish is marinated in vinegar, onions, ginger, and chili peppers, creating a tangy and refreshing appetizer or light meal. It’s a perfect dish to enjoy on a warm day by the beach. Look for small, local eateries that serve this dish to experience its authentic preparation.

Don't leave Siquijor without trying some of the local delicacies and snacks. Many small shops sell traditional Filipino sweets and pastries. You might also find local versions of dishes like Adobo or Sinigang, prepared with the island's unique touch. Exploring the local markets and small eateries will give you a true taste of Siquijor's culinary offerings, providing a delicious complement to your island adventure.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for San Juan

Siquijor is known for its rich folklore and spiritual traditions, often associated with healers and traditional medicine. While exploring, it's respectful to be mindful of local customs.

We stayed here for 6 days. Its right on the beach. The staff is welcoming and attentive. They were quick to make accommodations and answered all my questions. The restaurant inside made great food but outside the resort there are plenty of options within walking distance. I recommend this place to my family and they booked rooms. When we return this is where I will be booking again.

We had a great stay at The Bruce, lovely beach, nice big room and friendly, helpful staff. Only downside was that our room (but not all/others) had a few powercuts and lost water once or twice. Room very clean on arrival, however was not made up again despite a four night stay.

No WiFi, asked for it to be fixed but they didn’t. In ores to use your phone you must be in the lobby area outside. Nightclub next door blasted music until 2am. At 3am a pack of 8 wild dogs on the property barked until the rooster crowed. If you don’t like sleeping or using your cell phone or internet then you might want to stay there.

Fabulous location being situated directly on the beach and the staff are very helpful; however, there is room for improvement. We were fortunate to be able to check in early, but bath towels were not provided in our room and we had to request them at reception, we had no running water in the shower during our 2 night stay meaning we had to rinse in the sink, and the room only gets cleaned every second day so we had to ask for more toilet paper to be provided - simple things are overlooked. In addition to that, the neighbours dog was an absolute nuisance on our first nights stay, barking at all hours of the night for an extended period of time. We did mention this at reception the following morning and they kindly offered to speak to the neighbour. Fortunately, the dog didn't keep us up the following night. The property has potential, but for now, I would say it is overpriced for the service that is being provided.

Good service and helpful staff. And nice location by the beach. But our room was not cleaned upon arrival, the bathroom had a bad smell and was dirty. And we lacked towels, soap and toilet paper when we checked in. Also, the pool was not clean and could not be used (closed at the time we were there). Overall, the hotel could really use an upgrade.

The hotel is very beautiful. The landscaping is impeccable and it makes you truly feel like you’re in a little tropical oasis. The pool was cool and refreshing, there’s a beautiful courtyard area underneath the shade of the trees where you can eat on the picnic tables, the beach is beautiful with hammocks and lawn chairs.

Property has potential but AC wasn't working property (filters were clogged, after talking to front desk, I was told it was going to be checked, but no one showed up, I removed filters and worked much better, wifi was intermittent and poor. Not enough towels or pillows. Lots of construction going on and workers going around but no one checks on you, your room etc.

We had a very comfortable stay, the air con was so good after a day exploring the island. The hotel is right on the beach with some swings over the sea. There are plenty of seats to relax and the room had a lovely balcony. They offer rental bikes which we used and our bike was in excellent condition. We really enjoyed our stay. The only downside was that the shower was very slow to drain.

5-star!!

Great room, clean and very ‘island feel’ , food was good and the pool was nice, excellent value , be advised, it is a kid friendly place so you will have kiddos in the pool and playground, they also have free pool table up front near the gate !

The hotel would need a renovation, specially the bathrooms. We had a problem in the first room (leak at the bathroom) and they were very efficient moving us to another one. Wifi does not work almost anywhere.
