The friendliest hosts on the island. The resort is also very peaceful and quiet. Huge balcony. Good breakfast. Very powerful AC. Nothing was too much and they did everything to ensure we had a lovely time. 5 minute walk to beach, literally. Plus there is a 7/11, a 1 minute walk from the entrance to beach. The hosts even came with us to the tricycle to ensure e'thing was fine and say goodbye. If you like peace and quiet and a very very friendly vibe, you get it here. :)

Your Travel Guide to Boracay Island as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Boracay Island from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

Reaching the shores of Boracay Island is a journey many Filipinos aspire to take, and it's more accessible than you might think from major hubs like Manila, Cebu, and Davao. From Manila, the most common and quickest route is by air. You'll want to book a flight to Caticlan Airport (MPH), which is the closest airport to Boracay. Major airlines like Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia operate frequent flights.

A round-trip ticket can range from approximately PHP 4,000 to PHP 8,000, depending on how far in advance you book flight tickets and the season. The flight itself is about an hour. From Caticlan Airport, it's a short tricycle ride (around PHP 50-100) to the Caticlan Jetty Port, followed by a 15-minute boat ride (around PHP 50-100 plus environmental and terminal fees) to Boracay's Cagban Port. From Cagban Port, a tricycle will take you to your accommodation.

For those coming from Cebu or Davao, flying into Caticlan (MPH) is also the most efficient option. Similar to Manila, expect flight prices to be in the PHP 4,000-PHP 8,000 range for a round trip. The process of getting from Caticlan Airport to your Boracay hotel remains the same. Alternatively, some travelers opt to fly into Kalibo International Airport (KLO), which is further from Boracay (about a 1.5 to 2-hour bus or van ride to Caticlan Jetty Port).

Flights to Kalibo can sometimes be cheaper, but factor in the additional land transfer cost and time. Bus travel from Manila to Caticlan is also an option for the more budget-conscious and time-rich traveler. Buses depart from various terminals in Metro Manila (like Pasay or Cubao) and the journey takes approximately 10-12 hours. Tickets typically cost between PHP 800 to PHP 1,200 one-way. This option is best for those who enjoy road trips and want to save on airfare.

If you're driving from Luzon, the journey involves taking a ferry from Batangas Port to Caticlan or Roxas, or driving all the way to Caticlan. This is a long journey, often spanning over 24 hours, and is best suited for those who want to explore the country by car. Toll fees will add to the cost. Regardless of your starting point, the final leg of the journey always involves the boat transfer to Boracay Island.

Remember to factor in environmental fees and terminal fees at the Caticlan Jetty Port, which are mandatory for all visitors entering Boracay. Planning your transport in advance, especially booking flights and checking ferry schedules, will ensure a smoother transition to the island.

Best Time to Visit Boracay Island

Boracay Island experiences two main seasons: the dry season (Amihan) and the wet season (Habagat). The dry season typically runs from November to May, and this is considered the peak tourist season. During these months, you can expect sunny skies, calm seas, and gentle breezes, making it ideal for beach activities, swimming, and water sports. The weather is consistently pleasant, with temperatures averaging around 28-30°C.

This period is perfect for travelers who want to maximize their time outdoors and enjoy a fitting choice for Boracay beach experience. However, due to its popularity, expect larger crowds and potentially higher prices for accommodation and flights during this time, especially around the Christmas, New Year, and Holy Week holidays.

The wet season, from June to October, is characterized by stronger winds and occasional rainfall. While it might not be ideal for constant sunbathing, this period offers a different charm. The island is generally less crowded, and you might find better deals on accommodation and flights, making it a great option for budget-conscious travelers or those who prefer a more laid-back atmosphere.

The rain usually comes in short, intense bursts, often followed by sunshine, so you can still enjoy many activities. This season is also known for kiteboarding and windsurfing due to the stronger winds. For Filipino travelers looking for a more serene experience and potentially lower costs, visiting during the shoulder months of the wet season (like June or October) can offer a good balance.

For a truly balanced experience, consider visiting during the transition months, such as late October or early November, or late May. These periods often offer a good mix of favorable weather without the peak season crowds and prices. Ultimately, the best time to visit depends on your priorities. If guaranteed sunshine and calm waters are paramount, aim for the dry season. If you prefer fewer crowds and potential savings, the wet season can be a rewarding choice.

Food and Dining Near Boracay Island — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Boracay Island, while famous for its beaches, also offers a delightful culinary scene that Filipino travelers will surely appreciate, blending local flavors with international influences. One dish you absolutely must try is fresh seafood, prepared grilled or in a rich stew. Given its island location, the catch of the day is usually abundant and incredibly fresh.

Look for stalls and restaurants along White Beach that display their fresh catch – from succulent prawns and crabs to various types of fish like tuna and lapu-lapu. Many places offer a "paluto" service where you choose your seafood, and they cook it to your preference, often grilled to perfection with a simple marinade of soy sauce, calamansi, and garlic.

Another Filipino favorite that shines in Boracay is Kinilaw, the Filipino version of ceviche. Fresh raw fish, typically tuna or tanigue, is "cooked" in vinegar, usually coconut vinegar, and mixed with finely chopped onions, ginger, chili, and sometimes cucumber or radish. The tangy, spicy, and refreshing flavors are perfect for the tropical climate. You can find excellent Kinilaw in many local eateries and even some beachfront restaurants.

It’s a light yet flavorful appetizer that truly showcases the freshness of the local ingredients and the Filipino palate's love for acidity and spice.

For a taste of something more substantial and comforting, try La Paz Batchoy. While originating from Iloilo, this hearty noodle soup is a popular comfort food across the Philippines and is readily available in Boracay. It's a rich broth filled with pork, pork cracklings, shrimp, vegetables, and noodles, topped with a raw egg that cooks in the hot soup. It’s a filling and flavorful dish that’s perfect for a slightly cooler evening or after a long day of activities.

Many local carinderias and some restaurants on the island serve authentic and delicious Batchoy.

Don't leave Boracay without trying Halo-Halo, the ultimate Filipino dessert. This iconic treat is a delightful concoction of shaved ice, milk, sweet beans, fruits, jellies, leche flan, and ube ice cream, all mixed together. It’s a colorful and refreshing dessert that offers a burst of sweetness and varied textures. You can find numerous Halo-Halo vendors and cafes across the island, each with their own unique twist.

It’s the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet cravings after a day under the sun.

Finally, for a quick and satisfying snack or meal, try some of the local street food. Grilled corn on the cob, often seasoned with salt and butter, is a popular choice. You might also find vendors selling various skewers of pork or chicken, marinated and grilled to perfection. These are usually affordable and offer a quick, delicious taste of local flavors.

Exploring the food scene in Boracay is as much a part of the experience as enjoying the beaches, offering a true taste of Filipino culinary heritage.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Boracay Island

Boracay Island, while a popular tourist destination, retains a distinct Filipino island culture that is generally warm and welcoming. Filipinos are known for their hospitality, and you'll likely encounter friendly smiles and helpful attitudes from locals. It's customary to be polite and respectful; a simple "po" and "opo" (yes, respectfully) goes a long way. Dress modestly when visiting local communities or religious sites, though beachwear is perfectly acceptable on the beaches and in tourist areas.

Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, usually around 10% in restaurants if a service charge isn't already included.

Safety is a priority for any traveler, and Boracay is generally a safe destination, especially in the main tourist areas. However, like anywhere, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your valuables secure and avoid displaying large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry. Stick to well-lit and populated areas, especially at night. When using tricycles, agree on the fare beforehand to avoid any misunderstandings. For water activities, always choose reputable operators and heed safety instructions.

In case of emergencies, the Saint Gabriel Medical Center- Boracay is located very close to Turtle Inn Resort. For immediate police assistance, you can contact the local police station.

To enhance your trip, consider downloading a few essential apps. A reliable map application like Google Maps is indispensable for navigating the island, finding attractions, and estimating walking or tricycle distances. For communication, messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by both locals and tourists.

If you plan on booking activities or tours, having the Traveloka app on your phone will allow you to easily browse and book attraction tickets and tours on the go. For currency conversion, especially if you're coming from abroad or dealing with different currencies, a currency converter app can be helpful. Lastly, a weather app will keep you updated on Boracay's conditions, helping you plan your days accordingly.

The staff was friendly but the room was less than ideal. I had ants and other insects in my room among some other minor issues. The TV didn’t work and the door did not seem secure when locking. Overall it is an ok place if you want somewhere affordable to stay but don’t expect anything too luxurious.

Looks nice on website although had to climb approx 60 steps to reach room from outside. One sheet only for cover on bed and a/c very noisy, could not sleep. No internet service that would pull up. Very basic room and for a little extra would advise to check other places with seaside view, Turtle Inn has no view. Water pressure was almost non existent. Staff was friendly although hotel itself just was not up to par.

The Turtle Inn were great Picked up our luggage at another hotel. Nice coffee and breakfast daily on our balcony. Jenny the manager printed up a boarding pass for us. The entire staff were wonderful especially Marizol. Room was good size. WiFi and TV were weak. Who needs it in Boracay. Bed was comfortable. Good darkening drapes. Highly recommend Turtle Inn. Short walk to beach maybe 4 minute.
