Mary cooked a delicious full English Breakfast for us. She was very accomadating and welcoming. We arrived at 8am, 8 hours before check in time and she held our luggage for us while we went to explore. Bathgate is a cute town and there are plenty of restaurants and shops walking distance from The Gables. The train station is an easy walk. We took the train into downtown Edinburgh. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable, water nice and hot, and Wi-Fi is included. Mary provided bottled water, tea and coffee service in the room and snacks. 10/10 great stay.

Staff was wonderful. I stayed in the family room with 1 double and 2 single beds. Breakfast was delightful every morning. As most reviewers stated it is an old building. basin taps takes 3 minutes for hot water - Yes really! the power shower is nice, water flow is slightly low but does the job. Soft mattresses so ideal for those used to it I prefer hard but each to their own. Overall 8/10 as I stayed in October and felt the wind and roof tiles during the night, felt it could be slightly better insulated.

The place was just as described and had everything we needed. The real highlight was the excellent breakfast, and the service was outstanding. The location is also very convenient if you’re visiting Edinburgh or traveling to other parts of the Highlands. The only downside was that the sink tap didn’t have hot water

Breakfast was lovely..lots of fresh options. We had an unusual welcome by the gentleman of the house, when answering the door I had to explain why I waz there. He didnt know which room category we had booked but said the double was now available. We booked a much bigger room so we could get a double bed but happy to take the double. I dont think it was quite ready. Towels were just on the chair one tiny soap and one tiny bath wash randomly in the bathroom. Cookies with tea and coffee was a nice touch. The bed was foam spongey and the shower very light in pressure. When we asked about local restaurant recommendations he wasnt sure. We met Mary a lovely lady . Would I stay here again yes I would..i just think we caught them off guard. We ttied to message re our arrival time late afternoon but the website would not let us send. Stay here you will be looked after.

Very comfortable stay and amazing breakfast. We stayed here just one night to get to and from Edinburgh airport. The X18 bus comes right to the property (1hr ride) for about £5 or you can take a cab (25min) for about £40. We were pleased to see there were plenty of fast food places around that are open until 11pm or midnight - not all small towns in Scotland are like this. Only downside is we could not find an email address with which to contact the hosts during our travels, and since we don't have UK numbers we had to rely on courtesy phones to get in touch with them regarding check-in. Would highly recommend The Gables and their lovely hosts.
