Scandic Gamla Stan

Great location. Staff was friendly. Chef Oscar is the man. I saw all these reviews about the breakfast. I normally go to test the local fare, but this was too good and easy to pass up. LOTS of healthy options which I like and need. Big fan of this place.

On my flight to Stockholm, which was to connect at London Heathrow, we were informed by the captain that there had been a fire at Heathrow and the power was out. Therefore, we returned to America. Because there was no way I would be able to check-in to the property on my arrival date (and, as is standard, the booking would then be cancelled), I as well as Expedia staff contacted the property to explain the situation and request a refund (even though it was non-refundable, because clearly this was a situation out of anyone's control). We were denied. I was offered a flight a few days later by the airline, but by then my reservation at the property was null and void and I was unable to pay for an entirely new stay at a new hotel since nothing had been refunded. I find it unbelievable that a situation which was out of the control of me, the property, the airline, and everyone else does not constitute a legitimate reason to refund the booking. I've stayed at Scandic properties in the past, but never will again.

I stayed here for 2 nights, a Friday and a Saturday. While I would stay here again if needed, there are a few factors that would make me think twice. The good stuff - the service was excellent, the breakfast buffet had lots of good choices (though there were sometimes no tables to eat at in peak times), and the location puts you right in the Old Town area of Stockholm. The beds are comfortable (although they only give you half-sized pillows / cushions for some reason... never had that before). There's a desk in most rooms so you can do some work. Some rooms have bar fridges, some don't; but there is a selection of food and drinks you can buy downstairs if needed. The less-good stuff: The rooms are pretty small - the gap between the end of the bed and the nearest wall might be only 60cm. There's no air conditioning, so even in the Autumn when I was there, it was stuffy and warm in the rooms. The windows open though, so you can let some fresh air in if needed. The big problem I had was that the blinds don't block all light or noise. And in the Old Town there's plenty of people out partying 2am. Really, if they'd add in a rollerblind as well as some thicker drapes that go all-the-way to the walls, I'd probably stay here again. One last issue - this is not a good place if you have mobility issues. There are steps and trip hazards everywhere. (I stubbed my toe every morning going to the bathroom because the bathroom has a 2cm lip under the door.)

We had an excellent stay. The room and bed were comfortable. The staff were excellent as was breakfast. And the location made accessing anywhere in Stockholm easy by foot or transit/ferry.

The property was great. Oscar in the restaurant in the mornings was the absolute best part of our stay! He is amazing! Thank you for everything Oscar!

Perfect lockation

We stayed here for 5 nights. It’s a charming older hotel that met all our needs. We appreciated the roof terrace and loved the breakfast buffet

The staff couldn't have been more accommodating-taxi rides,Great breakfast and the chef was amazingly accommodating for gluten-free options. They also have a boxed breakfast for those whohave to leave prior to breakfast time.

Upgraded to the bigger room in the fourth floor and it was a really cozy spot to recover from jet lag. Upon arriving I noticed the dead bolt did not work in the room and it took a day for it to be repaired but then when I checked it, it still didn’t work. It would have been nice to have that extra security as a woman traveling alone. The breakfast was great and the room was very clean. The water pressure in the shower was incredible. Would recommend

We love staying here. The room is pretty, with a very comfy bed and bedding. The new bathroom is so clean. The location is perfect. We could walk to everything! The staff, especially in the breakfast room, are efficient and welcoming. And the roof terrace is a lovely place to enjoy a rest after a busy day of being a tourist.

Location was ideal. Breakfast was excellent with very attentive dining staff. Very clean hotel. No safe in room. No air conditioning. Overall good value, ample and tasty breakfast, and wonderful location.

Location

The hotel enjoys a fantastic location near the metro station, making it easy to get around. While the rooms are relatively small and on the pricier side, the exceptionally friendly staff and outstanding breakfast more than make up for it.

Gamla train station 2 minutes away, bus to central station 1 minute away. Good breakfast. We are vegans, staff noticed it and took good care of us during breakfast.

This hotel did not disappoint, in that it is historic, quaint, and super well-located in the historic area. It is easy to walk anywhere, close to public transit and easy walk to taxi stands. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. My only comment is that there was no air conditioning; a table fan in the room helped keep things cool enough to sleep, and windows open to let in the cooler night air, but it is a noisy, touristy area so we tended to keep the window closed. The only other thing to be aware of is that cars are not allowed into the inner part of the old city (including where this hotel is) between 11 am - 6 am daily, so Ubers, Taxis etc. must stop a few blocks away and you walk the rest. Not an issue unless you have big checked bags with you vs. carry-on. But overall a wonderful hotel that fits in well in this historic area, with superb staff, and a delicious breakfast buffet with a range of great food choices for almost every taste.

This was my second stay at the Gamla Stan Scandic. My stay last year was perfect so why not try it again. I love this hotel. The staff is friendly, accommodating and very helpful. The rooms are small but totally adequate. There’s a great sitting area on the roof. Breakfast has everything you could want and more and the location is within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go.

The receptionist was incredibly helpful to us. Our flight had been delayed and she was very instrumental with getting us transportation to the airport and very accommodating when we found out that our flight was delayed.
