Scandic Gamla Stan

Great location conveniently near the T but that means when the windows are open, for the rooms facing the street, you hear the T and it runs 24 hours. the windows, when closed, do a great job reducing the outside noise but the hotel doesn’t have air conditioning so in warmer weather it could be uncomfortable at night. We stayed in early October so it wasn’t a problem for us. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable & the reception staff very nice. No wash cloths in the bathroom so if you use them bring your own. The rooms don’t have coffee makers or kettles. There is a coffee machine in the lobby but guests need to pay per cup, refills are less costly but for the cost of the rooms we didn’t understand the need to charge guests for coffee. Breakfast is offered for a fee, we didn’t have the breakfast to comment about the selection. There is a small roof top patio with seating that we enjoyed. Gamla Stan is an enjoyable area to explore, a bit crowded during the day but very nice to walk around early in the morning & in the evening.

Great location. Staff was friendly. Chef Oscar is the man. I saw all these reviews about the breakfast. I normally go to test the local fare, but this was too good and easy to pass up. LOTS of healthy options which I like and need. Big fan of this place.

On my flight to Stockholm, which was to connect at London Heathrow, we were informed by the captain that there had been a fire at Heathrow and the power was out. Therefore, we returned to America. Because there was no way I would be able to check-in to the property on my arrival date (and, as is standard, the booking would then be cancelled), I as well as Expedia staff contacted the property to explain the situation and request a refund (even though it was non-refundable, because clearly this was a situation out of anyone's control). We were denied. I was offered a flight a few days later by the airline, but by then my reservation at the property was null and void and I was unable to pay for an entirely new stay at a new hotel since nothing had been refunded. I find it unbelievable that a situation which was out of the control of me, the property, the airline, and everyone else does not constitute a legitimate reason to refund the booking. I've stayed at Scandic properties in the past, but never will again.

I stayed here for 2 nights, a Friday and a Saturday. While I would stay here again if needed, there are a few factors that would make me think twice. The good stuff - the service was excellent, the breakfast buffet had lots of good choices (though there were sometimes no tables to eat at in peak times), and the location puts you right in the Old Town area of Stockholm. The beds are comfortable (although they only give you half-sized pillows / cushions for some reason... never had that before). There's a desk in most rooms so you can do some work. Some rooms have bar fridges, some don't; but there is a selection of food and drinks you can buy downstairs if needed. The less-good stuff: The rooms are pretty small - the gap between the end of the bed and the nearest wall might be only 60cm. There's no air conditioning, so even in the Autumn when I was there, it was stuffy and warm in the rooms. The windows open though, so you can let some fresh air in if needed. The big problem I had was that the blinds don't block all light or noise. And in the Old Town there's plenty of people out partying 2am. Really, if they'd add in a rollerblind as well as some thicker drapes that go all-the-way to the walls, I'd probably stay here again. One last issue - this is not a good place if you have mobility issues. There are steps and trip hazards everywhere. (I stubbed my toe every morning going to the bathroom because the bathroom has a 2cm lip under the door.)

We had an excellent stay. The room and bed were comfortable. The staff were excellent as was breakfast. And the location made accessing anywhere in Stockholm easy by foot or transit/ferry.

Bara älskar Scandic Gamla Stan

Sehr schönes nostalgisches Hotel mit hervorragendem Frühstück, zentral gelegen, alles gut zu erreichen. Einziger negativer Punkt, wo aber das Hotel nichts dafür kann: Durch die direkte Lage in der Altstadt war es nachts ziemlich laut.

Super beliggenhed i udkanten af Gamla Stan. Meget venlige og servicemindede receptionister. Pæn rengøringsstandard. Har aldrig helt forstået, hvorfor Scandic påberåber sig bæredygtighed ved at springe rengøring over? Mener det er pjattet og i bund og grund mere et spørgsmål om at spare. Heldigvis kan man stadig få gjort rent, men man skal bede specifikt om det! Værelset var meget småt, måtte kante os forbi sengen. Meget lidt plads til tøj. Stort udvalg på morgenmadsbuffet, men meget trangt også i morgenmadsrestauranten.

Charmigt med bra läge nära tunnelbanan i Gamla stan. Fantastiskt trevlig frukost med en serviceminded man som skötte det med bravur och personlig touch. Var rädd om honom! Rummet ok men inte så mycket att skryta med. Lite väl svalt i rummet. Badrummet fräsch men kallt på golvet då golvvärme saknades. Allmänt lite dålig känsla för detaljer. T.ex olika glödlampor i armaturer vilket ser lite B ut. Överlag helt ok, men frukosten gjorde allt!

Loved popping over to secret garden for discounted cava on Tuesdays. Nice breakfast options
