This is a great hotel, excellent value for money. The staff are very attentive. I stayed for 4 nights, but didn't request housekeeping, yet the staff kept checking in and messaging me to ask if I needed anything. They are incredibly thoughtful. If I visit Chiang Mai again, I will definitely stay here again. ✌🏻👍🏻

It's excellent! I stay here every time I go to Chiang Mai. It's close to food, shopping, and entertainment – everything is nearby. There's plenty of parking; I never worry about parking. Or if I want to go somewhere else, I can just flag down a red songthaew (local taxi) right in front of the hotel. The food is good, and the staff are great.

I received a room and a birthday cake. It was a wonderful experience. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel atmosphere was great, located in the heart of the city. The pool had a great view, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent from the moment I stepped in until I left. I forgot something and they quickly helped me get it back. I really liked the check-in and check-out times. They were very flexible. You can check in and out at any time.

The hotel surrounding is very nice, nearby shopping street and cafe. The ambiance is calm and somehow it feels very relaxing. They have a dispenser and refrigerator filled with cold water, which is a good point since Chiangmai is very hot. The staff is also friendly.

We had a great 4-night stay at Eastin. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They always tried to give us the best support whenever requested. The moment we arrived at the hotel lobby, we felt welcomed by the doorbell. When checking in and out, it was quick, smooth, and full of hospitality (especially the young man). The room was spacious and clean. A kitchen for simple cooking was available. Also, you can access the gym, swimming pool, and kids club (remember to register at the lobby). The bed was comfortable for a good sleep. Besides, it’s walking distance to One Nimman complex, Maya shopping mall, Think Park Shibuya, and many delicious restaurants like Cherng Doi Roast Kitchen, Ginger Farm, Mae Jin, etc. We will definitely come back if visiting Chiang Mai again. Thank you Eastin Tan for everything 🥰

Excellent room, comfortable bed, very clean room. There are many light switches and sockets. Choose to turn on and off any area. (Some hotels only switch control many areas Inconvenient to use) Front is cute. Call in advance to ask if there is a hair dryer. answer in a cute voice Prepare the check-in documents and wait for us to be ready. Not wasting time searching for a strong WiFi, but the air conditioner is slow to cool. It's not too late to go out. And the accommodation may not be soundproofing a bit. like the sound of water flowing in the pipes at night Or the sound of people walking in the hallway could still be heard. but does not interfere with rest Close to tourist attractions It's very easy to walk out. Overall I like it very much.

This region, often overlooked by those solely focused on island hopping, provides an authentic glimpse into Thai life, art, and gastronomy, making it a prime destination for discerning international visitors.

The character of Su Thep is not monolithic; it’s a dynamic region with distinct neighbourhoods, each offering a different flavour of the Thai experience. Nimmanhamin, for instance, buzzes with a contemporary, artistic energy, attracting a younger, trend-conscious crowd with its chic cafes and boutiques. Understanding these nuances is key to crafting a personalised itinerary that truly resonates with your travel style.

From a value perspective, Su Thep stands out as an attractive destination for international travellers. With an average starting price of approximately ₱ 639.52 per night and an impressive overall review score of 8.6 from over 38,000 reviews, the region offers exceptional value for money. Best Areas to Stay in Su Thep

Su Thep is a region that rewards exploration, and choosing the right neighbourhood as your base can significantly shape your travel experience. From the trendy, artistic enclaves to more traditional, serene pockets, each area offers a distinct atmosphere and a unique set of attractions. Understanding these differences is crucial for international visitors aiming to maximise their time and enjoy the most relevant experiences Su Thep has to offer.

Nimmanhamin

Nimmanhamin is the beating heart of Su Thep's contemporary scene, a district that pulses with youthful energy and creative flair. It's a magnet for digital nomads, artists, and anyone who appreciates a chic, urban vibe. You'll find yourself surrounded by independent boutiques, art galleries, stylish cafes serving artisanal coffee, and innovative restaurants. This area is particularly appealing to younger travellers from the US and Europe who are drawn to its modern aesthetic and vibrant social scene.

This neighbourhood is a hub for modern Thai culture, with numerous art spaces and design shops. While it might not host ancient temples, it offers a different kind of cultural immersion through its contemporary art and design. For those interested in local crafts and unique souvenirs, Nimmanhamin is a prime spot. Getting here from the main international airport is straightforward, typically a short taxi or ride-hailing service journey. You can easily book attractions and tours that depart from or pass through this lively district.

Old City (within Su Thep)

The Old City, while a broader concept in Chiang Mai, encompasses areas within Su Thep that retain a strong sense of history and tradition. This is where you'll find many of the region's most revered temples, ancient city walls, and bustling local markets. It offers a more serene and contemplative atmosphere compared to the modern districts, appealing to travellers from all backgrounds who seek cultural depth and historical exploration. European and Indian travellers, in particular, often gravitate towards this area for its rich heritage.

Within the Old City, you can explore significant landmarks like Wat Phra Singh and Wat Chedi Luang, experiencing the spiritual heart of the region. The area is also a rich collection of local crafts, traditional Thai massage parlours, and authentic street food stalls. Navigating the Old City is best done on foot or by bicycle, allowing you to soak in the atmosphere. Public transport options are available to reach the periphery, with taxis and songthaews (red trucks) being common modes of transport from further afield.

Suthep Road Area

Stretching from the city centre towards Doi Suthep mountain, the Suthep Road area offers a diverse range of experiences. It's a thoroughfare that connects urban life with the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains, making it a popular choice for those who want a bit of both. You'll find a mix of residential areas, educational institutions, and commercial spaces, creating a dynamic environment. This area is well-suited for travellers who appreciate convenience and accessibility to both city amenities and natural attractions.

This area is home to Chiang Mai University, which lends a youthful and academic vibe to parts of it. It's also a gateway to Doi Suthep itself, a worth visiting for its stunning temple and panoramic views. Along Suthep Road, you can discover local eateries, smaller markets, and guesthouses that offer a more laid-back experience. Accessing this area is easy via public transport, with numerous songthaew routes passing through, and it's a convenient base for exploring the western parts of Su Thep.

Riverside (Ping River)

While Su Thep is inland, the influence of the Ping River, which flows nearby, extends to areas that offer a more tranquil, scenic experience. These riverside locales often feature charming boutique hotels, upscale restaurants, and relaxed cafes with views of the water. It's an area that appeals to travellers seeking a more serene and picturesque setting, away from the immediate hustle of the city centre. This would particularly suit couples or older travellers from Europe and the US looking for a peaceful retreat.

The riverside offers a different pace of life, with opportunities for leisurely strolls along the banks or enjoying sunset drinks with a view. While not as densely packed with attractions as other areas, it provides a sense of calm and natural beauty. Dining options here often focus on quality and ambiance, with many establishments offering international and fusion cuisine. Reaching the riverside areas is typically done via taxi or ride-hailing services, offering a pleasant journey from the main city hubs.

When dining in Su Thep, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, with a small amount (around 10-20 Baht) often left at casual eateries and a slightly larger percentage at more formal restaurants. It's customary to use the fork and spoon, with the spoon being the primary utensil for eating. Be mindful of spicy dishes; if you prefer milder flavours, politely request "mai phet" (not spicy). Understanding these nuances will ensure a smoother and more enjoyable culinary exploration.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Su Thep

Navigating the cultural landscape of Su Thep requires an awareness of local customs and etiquette, which are rooted in respect and politeness. While generally a welcoming region, understanding these nuances can prevent misunderstandings and foster more meaningful interactions. For instance, the Thai concept of "saving face" is important; direct confrontation is often avoided, and maintaining a calm demeanour is highly valued. Being mindful of dress codes, especially when visiting temples, is also crucial, with shoulders and knees typically needing to be covered.

When visiting significant sites like The Museum of World Insects and Natural Wonders or the Nimman House Thai Massage, respecting local practices is key. At temples, it's customary to remove your shoes before entering, dress modestly, and avoid pointing your feet towards Buddha images. Photography may be restricted in certain areas, so always look for signage or ask permission. For massage establishments, while generally relaxed, maintaining respectful behaviour is always advised. Understanding these small details contributes to a more harmonious and appreciative visit.

Su Thep is generally a safe destination for international travellers, but like any urban area, it's wise to take standard precautions. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or at night. For transportation, ride-hailing apps like Grab are widely available and offer a convenient and relatively safe way to get around. While taxis are also common, it's advisable to ensure the meter is used or to agree on a fare beforehand. Familiarising yourself with basic Thai phrases for directions can also be helpful.

In case of emergencies, the tourist police are available and can be a valuable resource. For medical needs, reputable hospitals and clinics are accessible. It's always recommended for Filipino travellers to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and other unforeseen events. Knowing the contact details for the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in Thailand is also advisable for any consular assistance required. Staying informed and prepared ensures a worry-free travel experience in Su Thep.

Getting to Su Thep and Getting Around

Reaching Su Thep from the Philippines is a straightforward process, with several flight options available from major hubs like Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB). While direct flights to Su Thep's nearest international airport are less common, connecting flights through Bangkok (BKK) or other regional hubs are frequent. The total travel time can range from 6 to 10 hours, depending on the layover. Flights from Manila typically start at around ₱ 8,000-15,000 for a round trip, with prices varying based on the season and booking time. The primary airport serving Su Thep is Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX), located conveniently close to the city centre.

Once you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX), getting to your accommodation in Su Thep is simple. Taxis and ride-hailing services like Grab are readily available at the airport, offering a convenient transfer to most hotels within 20-30 minutes, with fares typically ranging from ₱ 300-500. Within Su Thep itself, getting around is an adventure. Songthaews, the iconic red trucks, are a popular and affordable mode of transport, operating on fixed routes or available for hire. Tuk-tuks offer a more thrilling, albeit sometimes pricier, way to navigate shorter distances. For greater flexibility, renting a scooter or car is an option, but requires caution and an international driving permit.

The best time to visit Su Thep generally falls within the cool and dry season, from November to February. During these months, the weather is pleasant, with average temperatures ranging from 20-25°C, making it ideal for exploring the city and its surroundings. This period coincides with peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and potentially higher hotel prices. The hot season runs from March to May, with temperatures soaring, while the rainy season from June to October brings occasional downpours, which can offer a refreshing break and lower prices.

Before you depart for Su Thep, ensure you have a few essentials sorted. The local currency is the Thai Baht (THB). While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is essential for markets and smaller vendors. You can exchange currency at the airport or in the city. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is highly recommended for easy data access and communication. Essential apps to download include Google Maps, a translation app, and ride-hailing services like Grab. Use Traveloka to find the best flights — book flight.

Visa Information

For Philippine passport holders planning a trip to Su Thep, Thailand, the visa requirements are generally straightforward. As of current regulations, Filipino citizens are typically granted visa-free entry into Thailand for tourism purposes, allowing for a stay of up to 30 days. This exemption simplifies travel planning significantly, as there is no need to apply for a visa in advance through an embassy or visa processing centre. However, it is always prudent to confirm the latest entry requirements with official Thai immigration sources before booking your travel.

When entering Thailand, immigration officials may request proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and sufficient funds to cover your stay. While specific amounts can vary, having a reasonable amount of cash or bank statements readily available is advisable. The passport itself must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay. While a visa is not required for short tourist stays, any plans extending beyond the visa-free period would necessitate a formal visa application process.

Given that immigration policies can be subject to change, it is strongly recommended that all travellers, including those from the Philippines, verify the most current visa regulations and entry requirements directly with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines or through the official website of the Thai Immigration Bureau before making any travel arrangements. Confirming your entry status in advance ensures a smooth and hassle-free journey to Su Thep and other parts of Thailand.
