I highly recommend this hotel for those of you who are traveling to Phuket and want to stay in the old town area, the location of this hotel is very strategic, close to souvenir shopping, close to culinary tourism, close to several shopping centers, in front of the hotel there is a motorbike and car rental place, the road in front of the hotel is quite wide, often passed by vehicles but not noisy so it does not disturb the comfort when sleeping at night, the reception service at this hotel is very satisfying, their English is quite good, this hotel is also very large, the rooms are very many, there are several elevators in this hotel so you don't need to worry about having to queue for the elevator for a long time, I stayed for 5 days 4 nights in room 608, the room is spacious, the bed is big and soft, the view is beautiful city view, the AC is very cold and not noisy, clean towels are changed every day, the room is cleaned every day, drinking water, tea and coffee are refilled every day, the bathroom is spacious and clean, this hotel also has a swimming pool, although the swimming pool is small, but it is very fun and aesthetic for photos, because not many people swim so it feels comfortable even though the swimming pool is small, that's my review, greetings from Indonesia people

More about hotels in Phuket Town

Phuket Town: A Cultural and Culinary Hub Beyond the Beaches

Phuket Town offers a distinct charm that sets it apart from the more widely known beach resorts of Phuket island. While the island is synonymous with sun-drenched shores and vibrant nightlife, its capital city, Phuket Town, presents a diverse mix of Sino-Portuguese architecture, a thriving culinary scene, and a deep-rooted historical heritage. For international travellers seeking an authentic Thai experience that goes beyond the typical tourist trail, Phuket Town provides a captivating glimpse into the island's past and its enduring cultural identity. It’s a place where history whispers from colonial-era buildings and the aroma of local delicacies fills the air, offering a more nuanced and enriching travel narrative.

The city itself is a fascinating microcosm of Phuket's diverse influences, showcasing a blend of Thai, Chinese, and European architectural styles that reflect its history as a significant trading port. This architectural fusion is most evident in the Old Town, where colourful shophouses and grand mansions stand as testaments to bygone eras. Exploring these districts reveals a city that is both a living museum and a dynamic urban centre. The contrast between the bustling markets, serene temples, and chic cafes creates a unique atmosphere that appeals to a wide range of international visitors, from history buffs to food enthusiasts.

For travellers from the Philippines, Phuket Town presents an accessible and value-driven international destination. With a starting price of around ₱ 276.33 per night, accommodation in Phuket Town offers considerable affordability compared to many other Southeast Asian cities. The city's reputation for being a historical and culinary hotspot further enhances its appeal. This combination of budget-friendly stays and rich cultural experiences makes it an attractive option for Filipino travellers looking for an international trip that offers both exploration and value, allowing for extended stays or more exploration of local markets and eateries.

The accommodation landscape in Phuket Town mirrors its diverse character, offering options to suit every preference and budget. From the stylish comfort of PRIME TOWN - Posh & Port Hotel PHUKET, a 4-star hotel known for its amenities like car rental and a fitness center, to the budget-friendly yet well-regarded B2 Phuket Boutique & Budget Hotel, also a 3-star option with features like airport transfer and a bar, the city caters to a broad spectrum of travellers. These diverse offerings make it easy for visitors to find a place that fits their needs, whether they are looking for a luxurious stay or a more economical base for their explorations. You can easily book hotel accommodations that align with your travel style and budget.

Phuket Town is a destination that resonates with a variety of international travellers. For those from the United States and Europe, its historical architecture and burgeoning food scene offer a rich cultural immersion. Indian travellers will find the city's culinary offerings familiar yet exciting, with a wide range of flavours and a generally affordable price point. African travellers, often seeking vibrant cultural experiences and good value, will also find Phuket Town to be a welcoming and engaging destination, offering a unique blend of history, food, and local life that is both accessible and memorable.

Best Areas to Stay in Phuket Town

Phuket Town, the vibrant capital of Thailand's largest island, offers a diverse array of neighbourhoods, each with its own distinct character and appeal for international visitors. Choosing where to stay within Phuket Town can significantly shape your travel experience, from the ease of accessing historical sites to the proximity of local culinary hotspots. Understanding these different districts allows travellers to select a base that best suits their interests, whether they are drawn to the charm of the Old Town, the convenience of commercial centres, or the tranquility of residential areas.

Phuket Old Town

Phuket Old Town is the historical heart of the city, a captivating district renowned for its well-preserved Sino-Portuguese architecture. Walking through its streets feels like stepping back in time, with colourful shophouses, ornate temples, and grand colonial mansions lining the lanes. This area is particularly appealing to European and American travellers who appreciate history, culture, and photography. The atmosphere is a delightful mix of old-world charm and modern-day vibrancy, with independent boutiques, art galleries, and charming cafes interspersed among the heritage buildings.

This district is a rich collection of cultural attractions, including the iconic Peranakan Baba Museum and the vibrant street art that adorns many walls. Food lovers will rejoice in the abundance of local eateries and street food stalls offering authentic Phuket cuisine. Getting to Phuket Old Town from the main international airport (Phuket International Airport - HKT) typically involves a taxi or a pre-booked transfer, taking approximately 45-60 minutes. It's the perfect base for those who want to immerse themselves in the city's rich past and vibrant present.

Ratsada Road Area

The Ratsada Road area serves as a bustling commercial and administrative hub within Phuket Town. It's characterized by a more modern urban landscape, featuring office buildings, banks, and a variety of shops and department stores. This district is ideal for travellers who prioritize convenience and accessibility, including business travellers or those who enjoy exploring local markets and shopping centres. It offers a more contemporary feel compared to the Old Town, providing a different perspective on city life in Phuket.

Within this area, you'll find a good selection of hotels and guesthouses, often catering to a mix of business and leisure travellers. Dining options range from fast-food chains to local restaurants serving Thai and international cuisine. The area is well-connected by local transport, making it easy to reach other parts of the city. For those needing specific medical services, Bangkok Hospital Phuket is conveniently located nearby. Getting here from the airport is straightforward via taxi or airport bus, with a travel time of around 45 minutes.

Chalong Area (Southern Phuket Town Fringe)

While technically on the outskirts, the Chalong area is often considered when looking for accommodation that offers a balance between city access and a slightly more relaxed environment, especially for those interested in activities like diving or visiting the Big Buddha. It's a popular choice for travellers seeking a base that allows for easy exploration of both Phuket Town and the southern beaches. The vibe here is more laid-back than the city centre, with a growing number of guesthouses and resorts.

The Chalong area is most famous for its pier, a gateway to popular islands like Koh Phi Phi and Racha Island, making it a strategic spot for island-hopping enthusiasts. It also hosts numerous dive shops and tour operators. For those interested in local culture, the Big Buddha statue offers panoramic views and a serene spiritual experience. Getting to Phuket Town from Chalong is a short ride, and from the airport, it's about a 50-60 minute drive. Travellers can easily book attractions and tours from this convenient location.

Kathu District (Near Premium Outlet Phuket)

The Kathu district, particularly the area around the Premium Outlet Phuket, offers a different kind of urban experience, blending commercial activity with a more residential feel. This part of Phuket Town is attractive to shoppers and those looking for accommodation that provides easy access to retail therapy and a slightly less crowded atmosphere than the historical centre. It's a practical choice for travellers who want to be close to major shopping destinations while still being within reach of the city's cultural attractions.

The main draw here is, of course, the Premium Outlet Phuket, a popular spot for branded goods. Beyond shopping, the area has a growing number of local eateries and cafes. It's also relatively close to some of Phuket's natural attractions and adventure parks. Transport from the airport to Kathu takes approximately 40-50 minutes by taxi. While it might not have the historical charm of Old Town, it offers a convenient and modern base for exploring the northern parts of Phuket Town and its surrounding areas.

Saphan Hin Area

The Saphan Hin area is a significant public park and recreational space in Phuket Town, offering a more local and community-oriented atmosphere. It's a popular spot for residents to exercise, relax, and enjoy outdoor activities, especially in the evenings. For travellers seeking an authentic local experience away from the main tourist crowds, this area provides a glimpse into everyday life in Phuket Town. It's a more grounded part of the city, offering a different perspective than the historical or commercial districts.

While not a primary tourist accommodation hub, hotels and guesthouses can be found in the vicinity, often at more affordable rates. The park itself features a large lake, walking paths, and various sports facilities. It's also a place where local food vendors often set up, offering a chance to sample authentic Thai street food. Saphan Hin is well-connected to other parts of Phuket Town by local transport, and it's about a 40-50 minute drive from the airport, making it an accessible, albeit less conventional, base.

What to Eat and Where to Find It in Phuket Town

Phuket Town is a culinary destination, renowned throughout Thailand for its unique blend of flavours influenced by its rich history as a trading hub. The city's cuisine is a delightful fusion of Thai, Chinese (particularly Hokkien), and Peranakan influences, resulting in dishes that are both familiar and excitingly different. For international travellers, exploring Phuket Town's food scene is an essential part of the experience, offering a chance to savour authentic tastes that are distinct from what you might find elsewhere in the country.

The culinary landscape of Phuket Town is best explored through its vibrant street food culture and traditional eateries, particularly within the Old Town and areas like Ratsada Road. Here, you can find iconic dishes such as *Moo Hong* (braised pork belly), *Hokkien Mee* (stir-fried noodles), and *Khao Yam* (spicy rice salad). For Muslim travellers, seeking out Halal-certified restaurants or stalls is important; many establishments in Phuket Town are increasingly catering to this need, offering delicious Thai dishes prepared according to Halal principles.

Dining in Phuket Town offers excellent value for money, especially when compared to Western prices. Street food can be enjoyed for as little as ₱ 50-100 per dish, while a meal at a mid-range local restaurant might cost between ₱ 200-400 per person. Even upscale dining experiences are often more affordable than in major Western cities, with a three-course meal for two at a nice restaurant potentially costing around ₱ 1,500-2,500. This affordability allows travellers from the US, Europe, India, and the Philippines to indulge in a wide variety of culinary experiences.

When dining in Phuket Town, it's helpful to be aware of local customs. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, usually around 5-10% at sit-down restaurants. Meals are typically enjoyed with a fork and spoon, with the spoon being the primary utensil for eating. Be adventurous and try local specialties, but if you have a sensitive stomach, start with milder dishes. Observing how locals eat and interact can enhance your dining experience and show respect for the culture.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Phuket Town

Understanding local etiquette is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Phuket Town. While Thai culture is generally known for its politeness and respect for elders, specific nuances exist. For instance, the head is considered sacred, so avoid touching people's heads. Similarly, feet are seen as the lowest part of the body, so never point your feet at people or religious icons. When visiting temples or people's homes, always remove your shoes. Public displays of affection are generally frowned upon, so keep them discreet.

When visiting key landmarks like Bangkok Hospital Phuket or the Premium Outlet Phuket, maintaining a respectful demeanour is important. While these are commercial and medical facilities, adhering to general Thai customs is advisable. Dress modestly when visiting hospitals, especially if accompanying someone. At the Premium Outlet, while more casual attire is acceptable, avoid overly revealing clothing. Always be mindful of photography rules; ask permission before taking pictures of people, especially staff or patients at the hospital.

Phuket Town is generally a safe city for international travellers, but like any urban area, it's wise to take precautions. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or tourist areas. For transportation, use reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps like Grab, which are widely available and offer fare transparency. Avoid unlicensed tuk-tuks or taxis that don't use meters. Familiarize yourself with basic Thai phrases or use a translation app to navigate interactions more smoothly.

In case of emergencies, the tourist police can be contacted at 1155. For medical emergencies, Bangkok Hospital Phuket is a reliable option. Filipino travellers should also be aware of their nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate in Thailand for any consular assistance. It's always recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen events. For any urgent concerns, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) can also be a resource for Filipino citizens abroad.

Getting to Phuket Town and Getting Around

For travellers from the Philippines, reaching Phuket Town involves flying into Phuket International Airport (HKT). While direct flights from Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) are not always available, connecting flights through hubs like Bangkok (BKK), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), or Singapore (SIN) are common. Flight durations typically range from 5 to 10 hours, depending on the layover. The cost of flights can vary significantly, but budget around ₱ 10,000 to ₱ 25,000 for a round trip, especially if booked in advance. You can book flight tickets conveniently through Traveloka.

Once you arrive at Phuket International Airport (HKT), getting to Phuket Town is straightforward. The most convenient option is a taxi or a pre-booked airport transfer, which takes approximately 45-60 minutes and costs around ₱ 600-900. Alternatively, airport buses offer a more budget-friendly option, taking slightly longer but costing significantly less. Within Phuket Town, local transport includes songthaews (shared pick-up trucks), tuk-tuks, and metered taxis. Grab, the popular ride-hailing app, is also widely used and offers competitive pricing.

The best time to visit Phuket Town is generally during the dry season, from November to April, when the weather is pleasant with lower humidity and minimal rainfall. This period aligns with peak tourist season, so expect higher hotel prices and more crowds. For those seeking a balance of good weather and fewer tourists, the shoulder months of May and October can be ideal. The rainy season, from May to October, brings occasional downpours but also lower prices and a more relaxed atmosphere, which can be appealing for budget-conscious travellers.

Before your trip to Phuket Town, ensure you have your passport with at least six months of validity remaining. The local currency is the Thai Baht (THB). While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying some cash is essential for markets and smaller vendors. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is recommended for easy data access. Essential apps to download include Google Maps for navigation, Google Translate for communication, and Grab for transportation.

Visa Information

Philippine passport holders can enter Thailand for tourism purposes visa-free for a stay of up to 30 days. This exemption is part of a bilateral agreement between the Philippines and Thailand. It is crucial to ensure your Philippine passport has a validity of at least six months from your intended date of entry into Thailand. You may also be required to present proof of onward travel, such as a return or onward flight ticket, and sufficient funds to cover your stay.

The application process for extending your stay beyond the initial 30 days, or for other purposes like work or study, would require applying for the appropriate visa at the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in the Philippines well in advance of your travel dates. For short tourist stays, no visa fee is applicable for Filipino citizens. Always confirm the latest entry requirements with the Royal Thai Embassy in the Philippines, as regulations can change.

While visa-free entry is generally straightforward for tourism, it is always recommended to verify the most current immigration policies directly with Thailand's official immigration authorities or the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila before booking your flights. This ensures you have the most up-to-date information regarding entry requirements, permitted lengths of stay, and any other necessary documentation to facilitate a smooth journey to Phuket Town and other parts of Thailand.
