I highly recommend this hotel for those of you who are traveling to Phuket and want to stay in the old town area, the location of this hotel is very strategic, close to souvenir shopping, close to culinary tourism, close to several shopping centers, in front of the hotel there is a motorbike and car rental place, the road in front of the hotel is quite wide, often passed by vehicles but not noisy so it does not disturb the comfort when sleeping at night, the reception service at this hotel is very satisfying, their English is quite good, this hotel is also very large, the rooms are very many, there are several elevators in this hotel so you don't need to worry about having to queue for the elevator for a long time, I stayed for 5 days 4 nights in room 608, the room is spacious, the bed is big and soft, the view is beautiful city view, the AC is very cold and not noisy, clean towels are changed every day, the room is cleaned every day, drinking water, tea and coffee are refilled every day, the bathroom is spacious and clean, this hotel also has a swimming pool, although the swimming pool is small, but it is very fun and aesthetic for photos, because not many people swim so it feels comfortable even though the swimming pool is small, that's my review, greetings from Indonesia people

More about hotels in Phuket Town

Phuket Town: A Cultural Crossroads Beyond the Beaches

Phuket Town offers a distinct Thai experience, diverging from the island's famed beach resorts to reveal a rich historical and cultural heart. For international travellers, it presents an authentic glimpse into the island's past, a vibrant blend of Sino-Portuguese architecture, bustling local markets, and a culinary scene that rivals any in Thailand. Unlike the more tourist-centric coastal areas, Phuket Town provides a deeper connection to the island's heritage, making it an essential stop for those seeking more than just sun and sand.

The city itself is a fascinating mosaic, with distinct neighbourhoods each offering a unique atmosphere. From the meticulously preserved Sino-Portuguese streets of the Old Town to the more modern commercial districts, exploring Phuket Town means navigating a landscape that has evolved over centuries. Understanding these variations is key to crafting an itinerary that suits individual preferences, whether you're drawn to historical exploration, culinary adventures, or simply soaking in the local way of life.

For value-conscious travellers, Phuket Town stands out as an accessible gateway to Thai culture. With accommodation starting from as low as USD 4.50 per night, it offers remarkable affordability, particularly for visitors from the United States and Europe. The city's reputation for being a historical and culinary hub further enhances its appeal, promising rich experiences without the premium price tags often associated with prime tourist destinations.

The accommodation landscape in Phuket Town reflects this diversity, ranging from charming boutique hotels to well-appointed budget options. Properties like PRIME TOWN - Posh & Port Hotel PHUKET and B2 Phuket Boutique & Budget Hotel exemplify this spectrum, offering travellers a range of choices to suit their needs and budgets. These establishments serve as excellent starting points for exploring the city, and you can easily book hotel rooms that place you right in the heart of the action.

Phuket Town appeals to a broad spectrum of international visitors. American travellers might appreciate the blend of adventure and cultural immersion, while Europeans will find the historical architecture and culinary depth particularly engaging. Indian families often seek out the value and connectivity, and for travellers from Africa, Phuket Town can offer a unique cultural experience within a region that is increasingly accessible.

Best Areas to Stay in Phuket Town

Phuket Town is a city of distinct character, with its various neighbourhoods offering unique atmospheres and amenities that cater to different travel styles. For international visitors, choosing the right base within Phuket Town is crucial, as it significantly shapes the overall experience, from the ease of accessing attractions to the local ambiance encountered daily. Understanding these areas will help you find the perfect spot for your stay.

Phuket Old Town

Phuket Old Town is the historical and cultural epicentre of the city, a place where the past is vividly present. Its streets are lined with beautifully preserved Sino-Portuguese shophouses, adorned with colourful facades and intricate details, creating a picturesque setting that transports visitors back in time. This area is particularly appealing to European travellers who appreciate history, architecture, and a more laid-back, walkable urban environment, offering a stark contrast to the bustling beach resorts.

Within Phuket Old Town, you'll find charming cafes, independent boutiques, and numerous art galleries. It's a prime location for exploring local street art, visiting heritage museums, and sampling authentic Southern Thai cuisine. Getting here from the airport is straightforward via taxi or pre-booked transfer, typically taking around 45-60 minutes. For those looking to delve into the city's rich past, this neighbourhood is the ideal starting point to book attractions related to local history and culture.

Phuket Town Central Business District (CBD)

The Central Business District (CBD) of Phuket Town represents the modern pulse of the city, a dynamic area where commerce and daily life intersect. It's characterized by a mix of contemporary buildings, shopping centres, and local markets, offering a more urban and fast-paced environment. This district is well-suited for travellers from India and Africa who may be looking for convenient access to amenities, shopping, and a taste of contemporary Thai city living, often with good transport links.

This area is home to major hospitals like Bangkok Hospital Phuket, making it a practical choice for travellers who prioritize easy access to healthcare facilities. You'll also find a wide array of dining options, from local eateries to international chains, and it serves as a hub for local transportation, connecting you to other parts of the island. The CBD is generally a 40-50 minute drive from the airport, offering a good balance of accessibility and urban convenience.

Ratsada Area

The Ratsada area, often considered a gateway to Phuket Town, offers a blend of residential calm and commercial activity. It's a neighbourhood that provides a more local feel, away from the main tourist throngs, yet remains well-connected to key areas. This district might appeal to travellers from the US and Europe seeking a slightly more authentic experience, where they can observe daily life and find more affordable accommodation options while still being within easy reach of the city's attractions.

Ratsada is known for its local markets and a growing number of cafes and restaurants catering to residents. It’s a good base for exploring areas slightly outside the immediate city centre, and its proximity to major roads makes onward travel convenient. The journey from the airport to Ratsada typically takes around 40-50 minutes by taxi or private car, positioning it as a practical and relatively peaceful place to stay.

Chalong Area (as a gateway to Phuket Town)

While Chalong is more known for its bay and proximity to southern beaches, its northern fringes offer a convenient entry point to Phuket Town for many visitors. This area provides a more relaxed atmosphere, often with more spacious accommodation options, and serves as a good base for those who want to explore both the town's cultural offerings and the island's southern attractions. It can be particularly attractive to families and groups from India and Africa looking for a balance between accessibility and a less crowded environment.

Chalong is a hub for boat tours and diving excursions, but its proximity to Phuket Town means you can easily access the city's historical sites and culinary delights. The drive from Phuket International Airport to Chalong is approximately 45-60 minutes, and from Chalong, it's a further 20-30 minutes into Phuket Town itself. This makes it a convenient location for travellers who plan to split their time between the city and the island's natural beauty.

Saphan Hin Area

The Saphan Hin area is a developing district on the eastern side of Phuket Town, offering a mix of modern amenities and local living. It's becoming increasingly popular for its parks, waterfront promenade, and a growing number of residential and commercial developments. This area might appeal to travellers from the US and Europe who are looking for a contemporary stay with good facilities, perhaps closer to business or event venues, while still being a short drive from the historical centre.

Saphan Hin is home to the Phuket International Convention and Exhibition Centre and offers recreational spaces like Saphan Hin Park, popular with locals for exercise and relaxation. It provides a different perspective on Phuket Town, one that is more about modern infrastructure and community life. Access from the airport is typically around 45-55 minutes, and it's a quick drive into the Old Town for cultural exploration.

What to Eat and Where to Find It in Phuket Town

Phuket Town's culinary landscape is a vibrant fusion of Thai, Chinese, and Peranakan influences, offering a distinct gastronomic adventure that sets it apart from other Thai destinations. Iconic dishes like *Moo Hong* (braised pork belly), *Khao Yam Nam Budu* (rice salad with fermented fish sauce), and *Or Suan* (oyster omelette) are local specialties that showcase the region's unique flavours. Exploring these authentic tastes is a cornerstone of any visit, providing a delicious insight into the island's cultural heritage.

For an immersive dining experience, head to the bustling streets and markets of Phuket Old Town, particularly around Soi Romanee and Thalang Road, which come alive with food stalls in the evenings. These areas offer a chance to sample a wide array of local delicacies at affordable prices. For Muslim travellers, seeking out restaurants that clearly display Halal certification is advisable, as many eateries in the more tourist-oriented areas may not cater to specific dietary requirements.

The cost of dining in Phuket Town offers excellent value for international visitors. Street food can be enjoyed for as little as USD 1-3 per dish, while mid-range restaurants typically charge between USD 5-15 for a meal. Even upscale dining experiences are considerably more affordable than in many Western countries, with a three-course meal for two at a mid-tier restaurant costing around USD 30-50. This affordability allows travellers from the US, Europe, and India to explore a wide range of culinary options.

When dining in Phuket Town, embracing local customs enhances the experience. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, with a small amount (around 10%) being customary. It's polite to use your right hand when giving or receiving anything, including money. Be adventurous and try new dishes, and don't hesitate to ask for recommendations from locals or your hotel staff for an authentic taste of Phuket Town.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Phuket Town

Understanding local customs is key to a respectful and enjoyable visit to Phuket Town. While generally a relaxed city, it's important to be mindful of certain etiquette. For instance, when visiting temples or people's homes, always remove your shoes. The head is considered sacred, so avoid touching anyone's head, and feet are seen as the lowest part of the body, so never point them at people or religious icons. Public displays of affection should be kept to a minimum.

When visiting landmarks like Bangkok Hospital Phuket or Premium Outlet Phuket, maintaining a respectful demeanor is important. While hospitals are professional environments, dress modestly when entering. At the Premium Outlet, while shopping is the focus, remember that it's a commercial area where local shoppers also frequent, so be mindful of personal space and noise levels. Photography rules can vary, so it's always best to ask permission before taking pictures of people or inside specific establishments.

Safety in Phuket Town is generally high, but standard precautions apply. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded markets or at night. For transportation, using reputable ride-hailing apps like Grab is recommended for predictable pricing and driver details, offering a safer alternative to unmetered taxis. Familiarizing yourself with basic Thai phrases for directions or emergencies can also be very helpful for navigating the city independently.

In case of emergencies, dial 191 for police and 1669 for ambulance services. For specific tourist assistance, the Tourist Police can be a valuable resource. For US citizens, the US Embassy in Bangkok is the primary point of contact; for Europeans, their respective embassies in Bangkok (e.g., UK, Germany, France) will provide consular support. Indian citizens can reach out to the Indian Embassy in Bangkok, and for African nationals, checking with their country's embassy or consulate in Thailand is advised. Travel insurance is highly recommended for all visitors.

Getting to Phuket Town and Getting Around

Reaching Phuket Town from major international hubs involves flights to Phuket International Airport (HKT), the primary gateway for the island. For travellers from the United States, flights from cities like New York (JFK) or Los Angeles (LAX) typically involve one or two layovers, with total journey times ranging from 20 to 30 hours. European travellers from London (LHR) or Frankfurt (FRA) can expect similar flight durations, often with a stopover in a major Asian hub like Bangkok or Singapore.

Indian travellers from Mumbai (BOM) or Delhi (DEL) have relatively shorter routes, with direct or one-stop flights to Phuket International Airport taking around 4 to 7 hours. For travellers from Africa, connecting through hubs like Nairobi (NBO) or Addis Ababa (ADD) to reach Phuket is common, with journey times often exceeding 15 hours. From Phuket International Airport, it's approximately a 45-60 minute drive to Phuket Town, with taxi services and pre-booked transfers readily available. You can book flight tickets that best suit your travel plans.

Navigating Phuket Town itself is relatively easy, with several transport options available. Songthaews (converted pickup trucks with benches) are a cheap way to get around the city, though routes can be confusing for newcomers. Taxis and ride-hailing apps like Grab are more convenient and offer fixed or metered fares. For exploring the Old Town's narrow streets, walking is often the best method, allowing you to fully appreciate the architecture and atmosphere. Renting a scooter is an option for the adventurous, but requires caution due to local traffic conditions.

The best time to visit Phuket Town is during the dry season, from November to April, when the weather is sunny and less humid, ideal for exploring the city's outdoor attractions. However, this period also coincides with peak tourist season, leading to higher hotel prices and more crowds. For a more relaxed and budget-friendly experience, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (May-June or September-October), though be prepared for occasional rain showers.

Before departing for Phuket Town, ensure you have the local currency, Thai Baht (THB). While USD is accepted in some tourist establishments, it's best to have local currency for everyday expenses. Purchasing a local SIM card at the airport is recommended for affordable data access. Essential apps include Google Maps for navigation, a translation app, and ride-hailing services. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and carry copies of important documents separately.

Visa Information for Entering Thailand to Visit Phuket Town

For US passport holders planning to visit Thailand and subsequently Phuket Town, a visa exemption typically allows for stays of up to 30 days upon arrival by air, with the possibility of extension. European travellers holding passports from countries like the UK, Germany, or France also benefit from similar visa exemptions for short stays, usually up to 30 days, which can be extended. These exemptions are designed for tourism and do not permit employment.

Indian passport holders can enter Thailand for tourism purposes under a visa exemption scheme, typically allowing a stay of up to 30 days. However, it is crucial to verify the latest regulations as these can be subject to change. For travellers from African nations such as Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, visa requirements can vary significantly. Some nationalities may be eligible for a visa exemption, while others will need to apply for a visa in advance at a Thai embassy or consulate.

When applying for a visa or confirming exemption status, travellers should be prepared to present a passport valid for at least six months beyond their intended stay, proof of onward travel (such as a return flight ticket), and sometimes evidence of sufficient funds or a confirmed hotel booking in Phuket Town. Fees for visas, where applicable, and extension costs should be checked with the official Thai immigration authorities. It is always recommended to confirm the most current visa policies directly with the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate in your home country before booking your book flight.
