first time to Cardiff weather was ok and there was plenty to do the hotel was good better than i expected no fault and the staff i thought was very friendly and the breakfast well there was no problems everything was laid out nice in fact we will be going back to stay at the royal

The location is great—right in the city center, close to the train station and within walking distance of major attractions.
The front desk staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our standard twin room was comfortable and well-appointed, featuring cozy beds, blackout curtains, a safe, and eco-conscious amenities.
Breakfast was a highlight, with a generous buffet offering a wide range of options. We also rented a car and appreciated the discounted parking location recommended by the hotel which was very convenient.
Overall, a great experience.

A fine hotel in the centre of Cardiff, very pleasant and friendly staff. The hotel is centrally located, but looking and feeling a bit tired and run down. Lack of facilities, No evening meal, or room service was available.

A bit run down. On a main street so noisy and the area is not very safe. Claimed to be a double bed but it was just two single mattresses joined together. Pretty disappointing.

I booked the 'sad single' (OK, twin) room and got the usual. It seems to be a feeling amongst hotel owners that, if you're travelling alone, you'd really like a view of the air conditioning. My room had a minute window with a view of nothing. Otherwise, generally clean and comfy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. But the room wasn't a selling point.

The Royal is within easy walking distance of the train statio, the Cardiff Castle, Cardiff Museum, Stadium, several arcades, and a wide variety of good restaurants.
Our room was very nice with wood floors. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was well organized with a really lovely spacious bath/shower.
We appreciated the free early baggage storage prior to check-in.
Finally, the staff were very polite and helpful.

We stayed on a Saturday night with a room that overlooked the high street. The bars were open with really loud music and front doors open until 2am and there was a karaoke busker with a speaker in the high street right outside with crowds singing and the speaker on max until 3am. We are not old and love a night out but the hotel could have warned people that they basically couldn't get any sleep at the weekend in we had a room that overlooked the high street. We definitely not stay again.

Even though from the outside, the building looks a bit rough, it is really nice inside! Would book myself again into The Royal without any hesitation should the need arise.

Very central location close to shops and train station. Great value given size of the room and price of the breakfast. Enjoyed having choice of a bath and a shower plus being able to follow easy controls on air conditioning. Unfortunately the bed was not the most comfortable, the tea urn didn't ever get hot enough to make quality tea- and there were a lot of stairs!

A bit hit and miss, staff were super friendly but hotel is very dated, didn't opt for breakfast but looked like something out of Captain Scott's era himself, room was very comfortable, albeit difficult to get the temperature down via the Aircon, bathroom was fine, everything worked, although there was a dubious stain on one of the bed throws but I assumed positive intent on this occasion.
