No air con, which in the week of a heatwave was terrible - especially when the bedroom window opens a tiny amount and the breakfast room windows can’t open at all! The headboard of the bed was flaking also. The whole hotel is a beautiful building and in a fantastic location but is in desperate need of some money investing in it towards refurbishment. Breakfast was tasty, just a shame about the oven you have to sit in to have it. At the moment not worth the money but it really could be with some investment

Beautiful hotel just needs a bit of tlc to bring it back to it's former glory. Absolutely will be staying again on our next trip.

Room was clean and tidy.There for 2 nights for Metallica gig across the road.Ideal for what we wanted.

Perfect location in the heart of Cardiff city centre but still at a location where you dont hear so much from the weekends party antics. Ideal for those couple of days away and access to events happening whether it's partying, music or sports events. An older building that still needs a little TLC in places but very spacious rooms and bathrooms (the ones I've stayed in were)! Enjoy the vibrancy of the welsh capital and it's surrounding areas.

Room 101 - The bathroom was not clean at all - needed a good bleach - clean around the bath , taps, sink. Came back to the room and there was a terrible smell - called the maintenance and it was the backflow from the bath !!!!! Was a bit better after being cleaned but was not up to a standard expected!! Would not stay again in that condition!! The Hotel is in a great location for shopping etc!! The staff were very friendly and helpful - nothing ws too much trouble!!

Great location, clean room, very helpful staff, excellent breakfast, fantastic bar. The wifi was very slow though.

Had a family room, and it was a great size fo we r the four of us. Comfy beds.

The Hotel is very old and dated, the decor is very shabby, I also think we were given the smallest room in the entire building, couldn’t even sit on the loo straight as the sink was in the way!

Lovely stay

Fleeting visit but still....tired rooms, shower coming off the wall, mould in bathroom, uncomfortably hot bedrooms and dirty fan. Only good thing was the staff on check in really. Tried to speak about issues on check out and was met with defense so gave up as we had to leave to get our train

Room was stinking, stains all over the carpet, bath was stinking full of black pieces so didn't even use the shower as I didn't want to stand in there, room was really outdated, hotel was really run down, reception area was nice but the hotel it self is really outdated and run down, bed was comfy but room felt really dirty, stinking around the window areas, breakfast was ok not much choice but it was ok, fruit flies come out of the grapes. I wouldn't stay here again.

Hotel very rundown. Definitely in need of some TLC inside and outside. Staff friendly. Breakfast good. No information about the hotel in the room. Went to get a bar snack at 8.10pm only to be told the kitchen closes at 8pm. Menu on the bar clearly states 24 hour service. On checking out the receptionist was clearly shocked about the kitchen closing at 8pm as she said I should be able to get 24 hour room service. Carpet on level 2 corridor absolutely filthy. Hotel perfect location as we went to a concert in the Castle and it is located opposite the Castle but I definitely wouldn’t rush back to the hotel unless it had a good clean and the bedrooms redecorated.

Great location . First impression a very grand staircase and chandeliers . Rooms have very dated wooden furniture like in continental hotels and I like it . The windows are run down and the bathroom very old but at the end of the day the rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay and if they updated every it would reflect in the price . Breakfast was buffet and was lovely, the restaurant did get very hot but it was on a hot day so they could do with looking into that. So I am very happy overall and would recommend this hotel to other travellers needing a short stay .

Very well located close to the music festival.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location excellent. The decor was rather tired but it was all very clean.

The hotel looked tired. Unable to put bar purchases in room number The room was unbearably hot and humid , despite a noisy fan and open window. The weather outside was cool and pleasant !!

Older property but well maintained. Food was very good; we had both dinner and breakfast.

Fabulous hotel with a comfy, clean room and helpful staff. Although, as an old hotel, they don't have air-conditioning, windows were open and we had a big fan. So despite the heat we were made comfortable. An ideal location too as its close to the Principality ground an Cardiff Castle, where we were going for gigs. Fuel rock club and a Weatherspoons are just down the road too.

No air con. No parking. Staff were great, super friendly. Bed was insanely comfy and the location was a corker for a gig at the castle - but the price was hiked because of the festival. Meh!

Despite an impressive foyer reception area the rest of the hotel is tatty and doesn’t deserve a 3 star rating. The only positive thing about it is its good location. I would highly recommend people avoid this hotel.
