TLDR: snot on ‘clean’ sheets. Extremely smelly duvets. Would not recommend.
Worst hotel experience we’ve had in a long time. Spend your money on a budget hotel or even a hostel for a more reliable and cleanly experience.
We are not picky travelers. We came to this hotel having stayed in a cheap budget hotel for a week prior, and we were excited to experience the 3-star hotel. The Murrayfield Hotel is very pretty, and our room was spacious, with views out the window but plenty of privacy.
On paper and in pictures, this seemed like a luxury hotel. But our nightmarish experience had us missing our budget hotel. First, it’s important to note that there is no elevator and the upper floors can get very hot. Beyond the discomfort from the heat and the slightly strange sensation of feeling the buses rumbling the floors as they pass, cleanliness was our dealbreaker with the Murrayfield Hotel. The duvets smelled bad. Like, really bad. We could sit a few feet away from our beds and still smell body odor on the sheets that had been changed that very day. Thinking we’d sleep better without the duvet, we peeled it back to find that the newly changed sheet had a large piece of snot or earwax stuck to it.
This was a bad hotel experience in general, but to think of how much we paid per night for this… extremely disappointing and disgusting conditions. We wish the hotel would take some of the exorbitant revenue they collect and put it towards new duvets and better cleanliness.
