Would not recommended. Won’t be going back there. Fair enough before we arrived they offered us to bid for early check-In and swap house keeping for a drink for each person at the bar which would have been £6.60 for a small house wine. We had no response to say whether the early check-In was confirmed so we rang on the morning of arrival and said we would be there for 11:30 any chance of early check-In, the guy couldn’t do enough for us and made sure a room was ready for when we arrived. One day we were in the lift going to our floor, it’s would go up and stop at floor 3 but the doors wouldn’t open, it started beeping and flashing and went back down to ‘B’, it did this twice then we got out and consulted reception. The reception said they do random testing at any time, myself and fiancée are petrified of lifts so it would have been nice to know beforehand, the receptionist just shrugged like it wasn’t his problem. We didn’t use the lift again. Sunday morning for breakfast £15.50 buffet style all you can eat. The food was slow coming out so people were stood with half plates waiting for the remainder, it started coming out but it was cold. I got to the mushrooms and there was a dirty black hair in there, I told the server who replied by saying that’s all we have. No there’s a hair in the mushrooms. He took it away and shout ‘no more mushrooms today everybody’ like I was in the wrong. The croissants were raw in the middle, not even cooked. Utterly disgusting.

Stayed here a few years ago and the improvement was noticeable immediately. Only one little gripe - there was no book swap available.

Great room, view and breakfast was fab

Everybody was helpful staying in a clean room with all the facilities. The breakfast was brilliant with the bar providing a good service. The hotel is situated in a good location not far from the sea with plenty of places to visit.

The room was outdated

This was a fantastic hotel with a great family room lots of space and great facilities. The whole hotel was clean well cared for with fun quirky decor to match the age of the building a good mix of old and new. Great location just a few minute walk from everything but far enough for a peaceful rest. Staff were fantastic and parking was easy thank you.

Beautiful hotel, especially the main reception and restaurant. The room was basic but clean and comfortable, the view from the room was stunning. There is a very convenient car park right next to the hotel if you can't get parked at the hotel, and is probably cheaper if you arrive later. The breakfast was great, with lots of options and staff were friendly and welcoming. Overall would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is quite dark and old fashioned. Location is great. Staff at reception, bar and cleaning were excellent excellent. Problems at breakfast. Some staff were unhelpful. Selection of food was just okay. Quality was good. On one occasion I asked a member of staff when would tomatoes, beans, mushrooms and scrambled egg be replenished. Answer was we found a hair in mushrooms so had to throw them away. Other food will be out when it's out. Waited nearly 20 minutes for food. This was at 8.45 a.m. and breakfast didn't finish until 9.30 a m. Disappointing as other days there was plenty of selection. Parking was good too, although we had to pay £6 per day.

The Royal is situated in a very good position, walking distance to the town centre and to walk on the coastline.

Perfect location staff were very friendly very clean.

Really lovely hotel, location is ideal to get out and about around Whitby with a view of the abbey and the whale arches at your doorstep. The bed was super comfortable and a big smart tv in the room too which I know isn’t a big deal for some people but we like to watch a film before bed. My only issue I had was when we were checking in, we got to the hotel around 8:30pm which is understandable that it is way past check in time but there was nobody on reception so we had to wait around for 20 mins until someone finally noticed us as there wasn’t a bell or anything to try get attention. I understand they were probably helping out in the bar etc as it was very busy but it just made us feel a bit ignored and not valued as a guest.

The hotel is being totally refurbished and yet all of he staff are helpful and very friendly.

The room was excellent with a very comfy king-size bed beautiful view of the sea and Abbey. The only downsize was the bathroom is need of a refurb as the shower cubicle is very small and the doorway is very small. Has a bath that we did use made the bathroom a little cramped. It is due a refurb so be great to come back. The breakfast was very good but would of liked some more options for vegetarians. The bar was lovely with a nice ambience in The Fat Badger Brand

We were first offered a room with no views of anything as the windows were boarded up. The hotel was/is going through some refurbishment and the decor in the room we turned down and the one we accepted was however first class.The decor was very tastful, the furnishings and fittings were to a very very high standard. Bed was huge and the sheets & pillows were very comfortable....... Egyptian cotton?Probably would have extended our stay had we had a sea view but on whole we'd definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Would we stay here again, definitely without hesitation.

Great hotel nice view over looking the sea. Short walk down into Whitby. Will be staying again on our next visit to Whitby.

Room was excellent because it has had new furniture.Staff was excellent
