A great place to stay. The Great Southern Hotel provides a great bar with an extended happy hour. Also available is a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu or is close enough to some great asian restaurants. So handy to Central railway station if you are from a regional area, being a five minute walk from the station. Also very close to the light rail which provides travel to lots of Sydney's sites. The hotel provides very clean rooms and the staff are friendly.

Excellent option if you’re wanting a basic home base while wandering Sydney. A little disappointed in the continental breakfast as the pancake griddle and toasters were all out of order. Front desk staff was nice, room was clean. Fun setting right in Chinatown. Easy access to public transit.

I tried to cancel my two night booking two weeks before my intended stay and received no confirmation. I then received notification that I was a no show. On two previous occasions I had complained about the state of the bathroom due to mould. Both times I took photos and used a rag to remove the mould. The first time I showed it to one of the receptionists and the second time I showed them to the duty manager. The manager offered a free breakfast but we had to decline as we were on the way to the airport. After the second time I tried to cancel my booking as stated above. I have stayed at the Great Southern several times previously and although it is an older hotel I have always enjoyed the atmosphere. Clearly it is a management resonsibility to set the standards and ensure that cleaning protocols are followed. Not happy at all Tony van Maanenberg
