Lovely, beautiful little old fashioned lodge for self-catering tucked away behind thick gardens abutted to a lovely old building on the outskirts of Alnwick. Its self-catering and had everything we needed, including good TV choice for the evenings and a strong wi-fi (in the lounge but not in kitchen). We just felt so at ease and relaxed in the evenings there. It may not be for everybody, say for example, those that like things to look modern. But for us with an eye to more homely back-in-the-day vibe, it was great. And that's not to say its in some way less-appointed. It was all there. Modern TV, Wi-fi, ovens, fridge-freezer, microwave, toaster, proper dining table etc etc. They had even provided a full bottle of milk, condiments, biscuits and beverages as well as fresh flowers in the lounge. If I had one quibble, and I hate to even point it out due to our complete enjoyment of the place, and that would be that the bed mattress was a bit too soft and 'sinky' for us. That said, I understand that bed preferences are varied amongst us all and others may prefer it that way. So much did we enjoy ourselves we are already planning another trip there with new places to visit using the lodge as our base. The owner should be very pleased with what they have here.

Pretty easy place to find. Getting up to the upper lodge can be a challenge for people with mobility issues. The lodge is a wonderful quirky olde worlde place. All the rooms were unexpectedly spacious. The kitchen had all the utensils you need for self catering and plenty of space in the kitchen/dining area. The bedroom had plenty of storage, an unexpected sofa and a very comfortable bed. The separate bathroom was more than adequate but I found the toilet flush to be temperamental. The lounge was totally unexpeccted, being large, comfy furnishings, a selection of books, magazines and games. The only real downside was the poor internet connection, which was weak to non-existent. We will definitely return in the future.
