The Lugger Inn

Unfortunate and difficult review. Unbeknown to us prior to arrival this establishment had gone into administration. We were contacted day before arrival to be informed that there would be no restaurant facilities available after 6pm and would we still be arriving for our reservation. As we were on holiday in Cornwall hundreds of miles from home and had pre paid for the non refundable reservation we decided to proceed. On arrival we had very good lunch and checked in. This establishment is being run by two staff who have been trying to keep the Inn going however it would appear to be overwhelming. Room was clean however terrace area very unkempt and not enjoyable. We had evening meal (excellent) in pub across the road. Polruan is a lovely place but not many local services so please bear this in mind. There is also no option for breakfast at the Inn. Our original booking was for two nights but we decided at cost to cut our visit short and leave a day early booking a night at a Premier Inn Rather annoyed regarding this experience as this establishment was highly rated on Hotels.com an organisation ive used previously. Also on hotel description it also stated breakfast available. Well done to the lovely staff members but until this place is managed adequately I would avoid. It wasn't particularly cheap either and contrary to location status the property is located in Polruan and not Fowey. There is however a foot passenger ferry to Fowey.

This is a difficult review because the pub is currently in administration and so was operating on limited hours and staff. Our room was lovely and comfortable and the two staff members (who seemed to be holding it all together by themselves) did their best in the circumstances. They were only offering light bites and the pub closed at 6 p.m. both nights we were there so we had to get the ferry to Fowey to eat (which was not a problem for us) so I would advise checking their opening hours before booking if you're hoping to eat there. All in all - we had a good stay and I hope the pub finds new owners soon as it is such a lovely place.

Hotel bar and restaurant were both closed and we had not been informed about this. We chose to stay here because it had a bar and restaurant so to find them both closed was beyond annoying

Lovely room and modern bathroom, very comfortable bed plus a coffee pod machine and a harbour view.

Absolutely disgraceful and completely thieving business! If I could give less than 1 star I would. I stayed at this Pub in Dec 25 and the accommodation was booked and paid for weeks prior with a well known and reputable third party. Upon arrival it was questioned whether I had paid for the accommodation and I advised the lady that yes it was paid for already and I showed her the receipt. She said no problem and acknowledged that it had been paid. Upon checkout, I was waiting to be served and I saw another couple in front of me who were also questioning why they were being charged, as they had also paid their bill weeks earlier. They also provided a receipt providing proof of payment to the staff member. The employee explained to them that their computer system is down and nothing is working properly at the moment and there are often issues. She told them not to worry and the accommodation bill would be removed. She then tried to charge them an additional amount for apparent in room food charges but could not provide an explanation as to what the charges were for. After this abysmal example of customer service, I then saw a third couple after me complain about the exact same thing. Yet again, additional charges trying to be laid when they had already been paid. When it came time for me to check out, the lady behind the bar confirmed that my bill had been paid and she also took a screenshot of the receipt and said she’d pass it onto the manager. We were in an upstairs apartment which we had to access from a very quirky walk up some steps and through a mind your head whole in a wall. It gave to the old world feel of the place. Staff were amazing and the menu had everything my wife loved. Will definitely go again when visiting my sister.

Absolutely a treat to stay! Great room, nice fireplace, fantastic cozy pub!! Worth a stay!!!!

Parking was a challenge. Friends dropped me off and had to be creative squeezing into a virtually non existant space. Expedia did not explain the difficulty in reaching the place; especially that access is via ferry, which is subject to cancellation due to weather. My friend os grom st austell and is used to the roads. This trip was a challenge even for him! Once there, pub and accommodation were lovely. Beware of the stone steps up and down and around to get to the room. Quite a challenge and pretty impossible for anyone with hip or knee issues. As i had an early flight the following morning, i cancelled my second (unrefundable) night, due to weather warning and possible ferry cancellation. Yes, there is a 45 minute 'way around' but none of this is clear when booking. Very lovely place to stay if one is aware of the above and can prepare accordingly.

Rooms seemed newly refurbished. Clean and well equipped. Received a warm welcome. Food was great.

Overall everything was good and the staff attentive. The kettle leaked water everywhere. The toilet had a faulty cistern and a previous guest had left a shirt behind which was still in the wardrobe. Other than that no complaints.

Really great pub with well appointed room. Not easy to access but that’s the nature of the location!

Very comfortable room, food was excellent and the staff very helpful. Would stay again.

Very Hekpful Staff

I can't review this property because I mistook the location for another Lugger, The Lugger Hotel, Portloe! Oddly, the information contained on the Lugger Inn page opens with "Not to be confused with" or words to that effect. Despite my request to be allowed to stay on another night at the Lugger Inn since I have paid for it, has been ignored. Even though I would book a second night and pay for that. I am glad that they are so successfully occupied that they can turn away extra business plus food and drink sales. Good luck to them !

We stopped here on a 2 day walk from Polperro to Par via the coast path. Lovely room, and great location next to the regular ferry to Fowey. The pub did delicious food as well.

The hill down was terrifying and we didn’t think our car could get to the quay. The manager brought it down to us!

Bathroom was cold. Too many steps outside leading to room. No chair in room. Staff friendly and nice location
