Winchester Royal Hotel

Very nice old hotel with lots of history, Comfortable bed and lots of hot water in the bathroom The shower is in a high sided bath but it works ok if you can manage stepping into the bath. There are a few steps to encounter in the hotel No brochers on local attractions are provided in the hotel. The available breakfast is comprehensive and very good. Looks like a great place for weddings in the very nice garden.

Parking limited and expensive. Hotel old. In city centre so convenient. Breakfast very average.

Great hotel literally yards from the high street but set on a really quiet road. Staff were all super helpful and it has a great bar and garden where you can sit and chill after a busy day sightseeing. Theres two carparks at this hotel which although you have to pay for, are superb and super convenient. Beds are big & comfy and i wouldn't hesitate in using this hotel again.

Great, character hotel right in the centre of Winchester. Easy walking distance of the high street and Catherderal and numerous restaurants and coffee shops. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely room and fantastic bathroom however general maintenance of the room could be improved.

Expensive for the quality of the hotel. Room and bathroom was dated.

A really nice hotel and we had a lovely freshly decorated and very large room (Jane Austen suite). Also a great location with a beautiful garden. But rather let down by a lack of readiness on the part of the staff. Bar without nuts or the right glasses. And, worse insufficient tables for breakfast for which a queue formed. We went elsewhere (The Ivy) which was probably a good choice. But would still return. Just hope they sharpen up their act.

Beds were comfortable and the room was well furnished, clean and pleasant. It would have been nice to have decaffeinated tea bags available, as my partner doesn't drink caffeine. But the big disappointment is having to pay for car parking even overnight. We noted that many car parks in Winchester were free on Sundays. I did know about this prior to booking. Also taking a £50 deposit showed a lack of trust in customers. I think the car parking charges are unpopular with the hotel's customers.

Had a fabulous stay with a garden view room. Just an observation, not a criticism but the parking was extremely hard to find.

The rooms were very nice, the staff were extremely accommodating, going out of their way to be helpful. Breakfast was ok. The breakfast room is nice but there were some issues with replenishment of items in busy times. On check out there were some confusions about what had already been paid for via Expedia. It took a little while to sort out.

Located in the heart of Winchester. The rooms are spacious and bed comfortable. Lounge areas very nice. The rooms are probably due some attention as they are a bit tired

We had a most enjoyable two night stay in a twin/double garden view room. Having read warnings about limited parking for guests, we arrived shortly after 11am and secured a parking space. The receptionist helpfully volunteered to contact us once our room was ready, allowing us to check in more than two hours earlier than the stated time. Our room was at the furthest end of the modern extension to the rear of the hotel. This meant following a long corridor and negotiating several fire doors, but we were rewarded with an extremely quiet room with no disturbance from footfall outside. The room exceeded our expectations in being spacious, pleasantly decorated, and well equipped. Whilst it was far from being newly refurbished, there were no maintenance issues and housekeeping was of a good standard. Similarly, our bathroom was of adequate size and clean, and everything worked. Crucially, the room provided our two essentials for a good stay – a comfortable bed and a good shower. We made use of the hotel’s comfortable and roomy lounge, but not the adjacent bar. Neither did we use the restaurant, preferring to sample some of Winchester’s restaurants, cafes, and bars, all within a few minutes walk. All in all, an excellent city break!

The hotel is conveniently located just steps away from the high street. It has a beautiful garden and the breakfast buffet is delicious. The staff are nice and helped us carry our luggage to our room as well.

Great hotel , situated in a great location. Comfortable beds , clean bathroom, great shower. Did not use any of the hotel dining or drinks service to make comment on this.

Very comfortable room, beautiful garden view! Easy short walk to shopping, dining, cathedral. Wonderful city!

Tukki at the front desk was extremely helpful. She upgraded us to a suite because it was the only room available when we arrived early. Appreciated. We appreciate the buildings in Winchester are very old but we think overall maintenance of rooms could be better. Coffee stains on the carpet, a little touch up paint and minor repair on walls in the bathroom could go a long way.
