Love the Hotel!! Know that it's up a steep hill that you have to walk up
Upon arriving the hotel our cab driver asked if we had arranged for our luggage to be picked up by the hotel. Hmmm, no. We did not realize that the hotel was up a very steep hill and that we could have arranged for the hotel's donkey service to meet us at the bottom in order to carry our luggage up. My husband and I are in our 50's, my husband walks with a cane. We're kinda in good shape, but it took us 20 minutes to walk up the hill (with our luggage). That evening after visiting the area and returning back to the hotel, it only took us 5 minutes (without our luggage), so we got better at it. Despite the hike...The hotel was gorgeous! The grounds were gorgeous! The view is gorgeous! The hotel staff was incredibly nice. Our room was a cave and we had a staircase that took us up to our balcony that overlooked the tiers of the hotel and the ocean. The breakfast is included and was very good. The area of Pyrgos is close to Fira and Oia. If you want to "cab" it to either town, the convenient store at the bottom of the hill of the hotel will gladly call you cab that will arrive in about 2 minutes (no lie). We would buy something from the store and he was very appreciated when receiving a small tip for calling the cab. There are also gift stores and restaurants at the foot of this hill. I felt like we were in the middle of everything. I really enjoyed staying here and would stay here again upon returning.

Just Lovely!
We stayed here for the first couple of days of our honeymoon. What a lovely hotel, it's has lots of character and charm and we really loved it. It is located at the top of quite a steep hill, we knew this prior to us booking and this didn't bother us at all plus you got great views at the top. There was plenty of choice at breakfast and they also catered for my gluten free needs :-) which is fabulous. We had dinner there too which we enjoyed. The staff were great, very helpful and provided excellent service. I had read on previous comments that the suite's can be a little dark. Ours was dimly lit however this just added to the whole ambiance and this is how these rooms are meant to be. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would like to thank all the staff at 'Zannos' in making sure we enjoyed the first part of our honeymoon :-)

Not Luxury Service
The town of Pyrgos and the location of the hotel provides for a great vantage point to see the island, though not nearly as nice a view as if you stay directly on the caldera edge. However, the real issue is the service does not support $500 / night (€420). We booked the honeymoon suite for 3 nights and were dramatically underwhelmed for what we expected was to be spectacular. 1. We had to pay for our transport from the ferry to the hotel. 2. We had pre-arranged for the suite with the hot tub with a view. We arrived and had something close enough, but not perfect. However, when we asked to move to a clearly vacant room we were told no. That was a bad feeling, given it was clear there was vacancy. 3. Next we received our welcoming fruit basket as part of the honeymoon suite, except instead of a fruit basket we received half an apple pre-sliced with a clear wrap covering it. 4. The bar is seriously lacking in variety. No whiskey in the house, and can only make 3-4 drinks. 5. Last, while the breakfast is nice, the staff made us and other guests feel like we were a nuisance. So nothing was terrible, but I wouldn't stay here again at this price. For $500 after peak season you can definitely find something with a better location and presumably better service.

Nice hotel, great location
My wife and I stayed for 9 nights at the end of September and had a great time. I feel that Zannos Melathron is a difficult hotel to review due to its unique style and location, which may not be to everyone's liking. Firstly the location. The village of Pyrgos still retains a local feel. Not as manicured as Fira or Oia, but without the crowds too! There are about a dozen restaurants, cafes and bars in the village, all of various standards but all good at what they do. The village itself is set on a hill with Zannos being pretty much on the top. The steep, uneven and winding paths really add to the charm of the place but would rule out a stay if personal mobility was an issue. Having said that you don't need to be an Olympic athlete either. We loved Pyrgos! The hotel itself is full of character and charm. The rooms are all very individual and therefore a review of one room may be very different from a review of another. We stayed in a Junior Suite and were unimpressed with the room we initially allocated, but the really helpful staff moved us after a night into the one next door, which was much more to our liking. This room was in the Santorinian cave style, where the only natural light came from a window in the front door. This may not be to everyone's liking but we found the room cosy, quiet and we slept really well. In both of these rooms the bathrooms were of a standard well below that you would expect to find in a hotel of this quality. But overall we really enjoyed our stay. We were given the use of a Jacuzzi suite room to shower and change in on the afternoon of our departure and the room ( and bathroom) was amazing. I think perhaps some investment needs to go into certain rooms to bring them up the standard of others. There is a small pool area with about 8 sun beds. Although the hotel was full we found the pool was quiet and didn't have any problems finding a bed. The staff in the hotel are brilliant. All young, enthusiastic and helpful. They really want you to enjoy your stay and are full of recommendations for restaurants etc. We loved our time at Zannos and in Pyrgos and would definitely go back.

Amazing and relaxing hotel with a beautiful view
My boyfriend and I went for 4 nights in the junior suite. The room was amazing, in an old style. The main building and everything else in the hotel is in the same style and makes you feel cozy. The people working at the hotel are more than friendly and are making your stay even more amazing. Also the breakfast is great, and they even had gluten-free Bred for me. Nothing to complain about, would recommend it to everyone I know :-) thanks for a great stay.
