perfect for budget travellers
My family (mom, sister and I) traveled to HK last week of September. I booked at booking.com a week before. We reached HK half past the hour of 8 in the evening and we went to the bus stops outside the airport almost around 9pm after completing the immigration and getting our bags etc. (TIP: Do check on travel blogs for transportation guide around the city, always do your research) We rode BUS A21 going to the kowloon/mongkok area which is on the other side from mainland. It cost 33HKD per head. (TIP: Purchase octopus cards at the airport, which cost 150HKD its the consumable load you can use in riding buses, MTR, buying at KFC, 7/11 etc, you can refund the remaining balance at the aiport when your trip is over, its also re loadable.)
Anyway it says in their email to stop at bus stop no. 8. - Sino Centre which we missed, so you really have to be alert, look at the screen near the driver or above the front part of the bus as to which stop is coming up and pressed the button to notify the bus driver otherwise you'll miss your stop. its a good thing I looked and printed pictures of their front building so it wasn't so hard to walk and cross on the other side of the street and find where Sun Hing Bldg. is located, Google map on your phone really helps. The hostel is inside the 24th floor.
We went to the elevator (they only have 3 and selected floors on the button) and their hostel is situated at the 24th floor, to the right look for 2407 which is sort of like their front desk area. There you will find the phone that you can use to contact the ever so helpful Mr. Keith (if there's no one around when you arrive just like us) we also paid a sort of cash deposit that is refundable upon check out.
We are 3 and so i booked for a triple room, they led us to where our room is, which is on the other side across their front desk (2402 just left of the elevators) and taught us the lock code of the door and showed us our room and like every budget hotel in HK, The room is fairly small, for 3 people its a little cramp, but hey I'm not particular with huge spaces so I don't mind as long as we have clean beds to rest, and toilet and a good air condition. We have a balcony but the view is not much and its small, maybe for smokers its a good spot to smoke, if its even allowed.
The only issue I have is the tiny bathroom, the shower head is on top of toilet seat so the entire space is both for toilet business and taking a bath, but otherwise its manageable. They also got hair blower and a TV. They do room service if you tell them to. The ultimate deal out of this is their location its right at the heart of Nathan road and everywhere is easily accessible from restaurants, MTR, bus stops and shopping areas. But, really prepare your best walking shoes as you will be walking a lot in HK.
Upon check out, they let you leave your things which is a plus cause you can still walk around while waiting for your flight at the airport. It's not the best accommodation out there but its totally value for money for budget travelers but maybe next time its better to book a 4 pax room for a 3 pax group for an extra square meter of space and adding some extra pillows won't hurt. :) But overall, we had a good stay at 1812 guesthouse.
P.S. I took pictures of our room but its in my other phone so I'll just share them later.
