Honjin Hiranoya Kofukan

This was a very traditional Japanese hotel. The staff were great and the western breakfast was really nice as well had a different one every day. Staff were very polite and helpful during our stay. View was great and beds very comfortable

This is a very lovely hotel in downtown Takayama. We were staying here for one night coming from Kusatsu. We had some issues with the GPS so were going to be late for dinner, we called them and they said they would hold dinner for us no issues. We had the Hida beef dinner which was fantastic. The breakfast the next morning was also fantastic. The room had a nice view of the river and we left the door open all night without any noise. Most of the town closes down at 6pm but opens back up at 8am. The beds were very uncomfortable so glad we only stayed one night. The staff was very friendly. They helped us pick out our yukatas and gave us beautiful tabi socks as a souvenir.

Clean, spacious room, very friendly staff

The staff at this Ryokan are excellent in terms of their service, friendliness and professionalism. The excellent service began right after we booked, then continued in-person when we were picked up at Takayama Station on arrival and sadly ended when we were dropped off at the car rental when leaving Takayama. In between, the hospitality has been top notch and the dinner and breakfast were of very high quality. Our room also had the motorised bed and the corner view overlooking the river was a nice and calming way to start our morning. Onsen is also open-air, which is an experience itself when during Winter. I would not hesitate to book this place again in future.

Japanese room, great experience for short stay, we truly enjoyed our stay but it is not natural for us to sleep on such futons. Food is plentiful and quite tasty. Loved having our private dining room and really enjoyed wearing the yukatas. Staff is really friendly. Well located. We recommend

Lovely room, very well positioned hotel, really great staff, gave us lots of practical help, and very friendly. Best hotel we've stayed in during our 3 week holiday, and others were 4 star!

Great location across the river to the old town, but close enough to the train station. Nice rooms with lots of nice features, great baths,especially the women's next door.

Superb staff - very friendly and helpful. Centrally located. Lovely onsen and spa. Good food - highly recommend the kaiseki. Overall, wonderful stay!

A real experience with lovely staff

Great location especially for festivals and old town. The best room, friendly staff, public onsen, really enjoyed traditional breakfast. Make sure the hotels helps with dinner reservations, they did not offer for us and a lot of restaurants book up.

Best place we've stayed in Japan. So friendly. So helpful. So nice. And so beautiful. Will go back.

Everything all in one. Communal Onsen with a view. Room is made up at bed time with futons. Store on site. Food presentation beautiful. Great service. Shuttle service as well timely and safe.
