Nihon No Ashitaba

I stayed here in Nov 2024 and Jun 2025. This property is so beautiful. There is long term construction right next to the property so there is noise during the day. Everything was perfect to have a relaxing time.

I will definitely come back! It was a perfect stay and gave my mom and me a wonderful memory. Thank you so much to the amazing staff!

Everything about Nihon No Ashitaba was so incredibly beautiful, serene, and thoughtful. They offer a free shuttle everyday to Yufuin station where you can walk, shop, eat, and enjoy Yufuin. We were greeted promptly after riding the Yufuin No Mori from Hakata Station.They have multiple private onsens and a large open air hot spring you can reserve a time everyday if you wanted. Their breakfast and dinner is absolutely amazing and gives you a truly genuine Japanese food experience. The villas/homes on the property are tradition style and are very spacious and clean. The landscape of the property is quiet and offers you a peaceful onsen experience. The best part about Nihon No Ashitaba is the impeccable service and generosity of their staff. Yuji in particular, really cared for us and worked hard to make our stay the best experience ever! Thank you so much for the wonderful time in Yufuin!

Wonderful Onsen I’ve ever ever done.

I have visited Nihon No Ashitaba about 6 or 7 times. But I won't be visiting again. Still clean and nice hot springs, but the food was disappointing. In the past, dishes using vegetables were really cool and delicious, and they were dishes that showed the owner's philosophy. Since I visited several times a few years ago, I also visited the owner's villa three times due to the owner's consideration. On this trip, breakfast was mostly rice and soybean paste soup with a salty vegetable side dish. It was so ordinary. (There was a tofu dish on another table. I don't understand why it was different from my breakfast menu.) Dinner also included steak (cold) and a few pre-made dishes (which seemed half-hearted). I can't eat fried food and sashimi due to cancer treatment, and I asked for shabu-shabu before my visit. However, fried fish was served, and tofu (yuba) and steak were served instead of sashimi. It was very disappointing. When I visited in the past, I missed the creative, delicious, and thoughtful food. And when I checked out, I already gave my room key to the staff, but 2 minutes later, another staff member asked for my key. (I didn't understand.) Lastly, I saw the staff giving gifts in shopping bags to other guests. But there was no gift for me. Was it because I stayed in a cheap room??? I felt bad. I don't want to visit again. I canceled my reservation for January next year.

Beautiful place, you will be treated very well by the staff. 0 faults have stayed in multiple ryokans in my life this is probably the best!!

A beautiful experience. Service staff Eri was welcoming, friendly and professional. The house we stayed in was amazing. Overall a wonderful experience.

Ryokan at hot springs area is suppoed to provide at least 2 things : kaiseki and hot spring bath. I know this place was recommended by some people. But do not believe their opinions because they were sure to have no experience at other ryokan. I have been at more than 20 ryokan. This has good outside baths but not clean and no service mind. The most terrible thing is their food. It is a kind of poor set menu and can not be a kaiseki. We complained a lot and found out some years ago the owner was changed to a Chinese and it has a chicken farm to save the food cost( it is not strange to see chicken at every meal ). We do NOT recommend this place. We stayed other roykan 2 nights and that was much much better than this place.

Very nice property - quite and clean spaces, friendly staff. I plan to go back in different seasons :) - room was a bit cold at night but other than that everything was perfect : the onsen, food etc.

It was a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel and onsen was great. Food was great. The only thing it did not do well was that they did not respond to my query on dinner via hotels.com message. Otherwise, everything else was great. Would definitely recommend this hotel

Not as I expected. Outdoor hot springs are very nice, but the room was very outdated and old.

落ち着いた雰囲気の宿で、とてもゆっくり過ごすことができました。大浴場の予約もスムーズで、他の貸切風呂も問題なく好きなタイミングで使用できました。 チェックイン時のウェルカムスイーツのレベルも高く感動しました。相方が誕生日と伝えるとサービスでホールケーキを用意して頂けて、そのケーキもサービスのクオリティを超えたものでした。 ホスピタリティ溢れる旅館で、ここに決めて本当に良かったです！ありがとうございました！
