The best weekend escape. This is my second time here and I’m 100% sure I will be coming back again. It is worth so much more than what you pay. It’s spacious with a private indoor and outdoor bath. You even have your own garden space which you can enjoy all day with the big glass windows. The breakfast was healthy and warm, perfect to start the day. The surrounding area is very peaceful and feels like the perfect escape. I was feeling stressed from my busy work life in Tokyo and a night at this ryokan healed me. I will be back soon.

Really enjoyed our stay. Perfect day of relaxation in an otherwise exhausting trip. Location is slightly out of the way but extremely charming (even in winter), and the train ride from Atami station was absolutely breathtaking with the seaside views.

It was amazing. My toddler, friend and I enjoyed the experience. Our building was so beautiful. My friend and I enjoyed the onsens so much. My toddler loved feeding the koi. The futons were pretty comfortable. We used the onsens so many times. My friend liked the outdoor one since it isn't as hot as inside but i didn't mind. I tried the public bath at night and there were spiders in the room. They were big. It was nice to use too but better if there weren't spiders but it makes sense why they were there. Food was inconvenient since they didnt have any meals except breakfast which needed a reservation since we came on the off season. I feel like the food would be amazing. There wasnt a lot of food super close and some places closed early but thats only negative oh and at night it isn't too bright walking back to the ryokan.

The traditional Japanese hotel is so spacious that it surprises us the minute we walked in. It has a full living area, a bedroom and a long patio that provides excellent view to the back yard. It has a private indoor hot spring tub and a private outdoor onsen. The back yard lead to hotel garden area which has all kinds of beautiful flowers and plan. Mountain is just next to the backyard. The ambience was excellent. A simple traditional Japanese breakfast was provided for free a request.

As the "hanare" part of "hanareya" suggests, this location is quite far from what you might consider urban Japan, and as such is a good place for some relaxing quiet time. The ryokan room I had was very spacious despite being the smallest type, especially for one person. There was the genkan (entrance area), a big room for eating, a big room for sleeping, a corridor with chairs/tables and a safety deposit box, a closet with a yukata, a toilet, a separate bathroom sink area, one small indoor onsen and one small outdoor onsen. I ordered the half-board option, and requested to have my meals in my room. The way that worked was they'd deliver the trays to the entrance where I'd pick them up, then once I was done eating I'd call the front desk and they'd come and take back the trays. Food was nice. Not much to do outside at night, I just walked to the MaxValu supermarket and back as a night stroll. If you're coming to Kawazu for the cherry blossoms, maybe come towards the middle/end of the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival dates. I went basically the day before the festival started (not intentionally, timing just happened to be a near miss), and whilst this year the sakura were slower to bloom than usual due to the cold, I don't think you'll see much on festival day 1, just the occasional single bloom here or there. It's inconvenient to get to (need car), but I'd recommend also checking out the Izu Orange Centre in the area and trying the orange juice there.

This Ryokan was amazing. The staff were welcoming and gracious. The rooms are huge and traditional japanese style with futons and tatami mats. It is located in a great small town nestled in a mountain valley. A quiet respite from the big city. Would definitely stay again!
