- Family vacation
1. Security and Pedestrian Safety - upon arrival, the sulky security guard was very rude and did not allow us to bring car to lobby to unload our luggages. He did not tell us where to go next. We had to figure things out ourselves and finally noticed that cars are stopped across from the lobby. Imagine the little children getting off the car, and having to walk across the lobby driveway while parents are juggling with their luggages. Why make such a bad experience as a first impression? I have seen many of the hotel buggies and even other cars (including taxis) just rushing into the driveway, with no disregard for pedestrian safety. How can I trust the hotel to deliver a safety and comfort arrival when this is the best they can provide? 2. Check-in - the trainee staff was not very clear with her communication. I got very confused especially in paying a visitor tax - she mentioned per stay. When I clarified what is this tax, she said it's compulsory but never explained what it is. She did not want to elaborate further and pretended to walk away with my ID for my registration. That's very unsatisfying to not being able to know what I am paying for. I had no choice but to oblige. 3. Welcome drink - this was 100% syrup water disguising as a fruit punch. I asked for something else that is less sweet but I am told by the staff at the lobby lounge cafe that it's a pre-mixed drink. Therefore, there is nothing else besides that "fruit punch". I asked for coffee but that's not allowed. So, I had water in the end. Not very welcoming, I must say. 4. Smoking at pool area - I know there are designated non-smoking areas but why must the hotel have separate pool area for smoking? Isn't the hotel a public place and with families and children? If the guests insist to smoke, they should be made to be far away from polluting the air. I did not have a pleasant experience being at the pool, as in case the hotel is not aware, strong winds from the sea can blow smoke from smoking area to the non-smoking area of the pool. I did not spend a long time at the pool. It's just too disgusting. 5. Pollution - the motorbikes and vans of the housekeeping and maintenance staff always, and never fails to pollute the fresh air around the chalets in the forest area. It is really appalling that the hotel claims refreshing air during the stay, but the hotel is definitely not living up to their promise. 5. Comfort - the entire hotel/resort looks dated and aging very fast. I stayed here 8 years ago and it was pristine and a top-notch stay for me. I did not get the same experience this time. The facilities are old, the place looks dirty as though maintenance is lacklustre. Sometimes old is classic but this hotel/resort looks like it was just left to age without any care in between. Even food at the hotel/resort was poor - I had salad at the beachside cafe and it was just dry with lack of passion in its preparation. So was the pizza which I ordered. 6. Communication - When I encountered WiFi connectivity was also poor, and when I dialled '1' from the room, I was told somebody from IT will attend to me in 10 minutes. I waited 20 minutes, dialled back '1' and again, I was told to wait another 10 minutes. When I refused as I know what the problem was but the operator mentioned if there is a technical problem then it would take longer. I could not believe what I heard, and I insisted to be transferred to the IT department to speak with them. She promised me (again) that someone will call as soon as she hangs up. She kept her promise, and IT department called me and gave me a new login ID and password. It was a generic one, so I thought it was an extra ID for non-staying guests (like patrons to the diners, restaurants, etc). Only when I found out later the same ID was given to everyone in my group. So, if there already is a problem with the connectivity, shouldn't the guests be communicated to earlier with the correct ID? It seems the check-in staff or the operator behind '1' does not know what is happening. 7. Check out - when I checked out, I was told to queue at the Cashier counter (and not at the Reception counter) as it was the only counter that can facilitate payments. After I was done, I saw a couple who had their check out being attended to at the Reception counter. I was furious as it was purely discrimination as I am probably Asian and am not as worthy as non-Asians. No disrespect here, but this preferential treatment was clearly displayed to me and everyone who are obediently waiting in the queue to the Cashier counter. There was another Asian man trying to check out soon as he had a flight to catch, but he was not attended to. So, why this two different services? Clearly, somebody is not knowing how to manage the hotel very well. Overall, this hotel does not deserve the stars accoladed by the hotel associations. And surely it does not deserve to command a high price for such poor facilities, service and hospitality in general. Would I stay again, probably not. I would spend elsewhere where you get for what you pay for.

- Family vacation
Beautiful hotel, nice chalets, big spacious room and bathroom, beautiful location near cable car, scenic view of the sea-forest-sunrise-sunset, very private, beautiful beach and mangrove walk, nice restaurants especially Phan Thai where you can enjoy beautiful sunset, very clean and most importantly, warm and every cheerful, friendly, accommodative and attentive staff.

Service was excellent, food was awesome except Pahn-Thai (average), room was clean and view is amazing. Private beach is just perfect! The only downside is the chalet area - it is so huge that you need to wait for shuttle to fetch you around. During holidays, the waiting time can be longer. Their shuttle system is good but not perfect. All rides, no matter where still have to go to lobby first which is a waste of time when the destination is actually nearer if we go direct to the place.

The view of the sea is better than the rain forest, because the forest is very dimly lit, but the service is very good in terms of reception and handling.
