Beautiful location but questionable service
We stayed 4 nights at at Cliff Beach Resort, and it had it's ups and downs. We ordered the Seaview Suite which is a bit more expensive than the regular rooms, and we got a beautiful balcony and a beautiful room.
The first nights were great... but as time passed by we started noticing that our room was VERY unmaintained. Superdusty if you would just move a chair, the balcony's ledge broke just by touching it, scary. We also had two big termites (20cm long) crawling around the last night... we're unsure if we brought them in or they just creeped in but they were really big and we're pretty sure they just got in to the room somehow. Not very hygienic. Other than that, a great room.
Now, to the other facilities. Coco restaurant had good food with very limited western choices. I think they had Spaghetti Carbonara, Pizza and a Hamburger to choose between, not very nice for me that's not that much into Thai food. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and she doesn't eat fish, but on their vegetarian menu, almost every meal contained seafood. We told the staff but they were unable to fix it, even though trying to remove it a little bit. They also forgot my girlfriends order but came with my food once... weird. So, Coco had good food but the service needs more work.
Our phone was also not working at all in the hotel room, so we tried calling with my phone to the number on their website (which we thought was the lobby), and they did speak the tiniest bit of english, but they couldn't even understand when I said "we're checked in already, we just want the wifi password", they just kept referring to that the hotel is fully booked and we can not book a room. Annoying.
We had curious monkeys on our balcony jumping around sometimes, we loved it personally! The staff was very quick to scare them away, and that's understandable and good. You have to consider it is on Koh Chang, in the middle of the jungle basically ;)
I think Cliff Beach Resort requires a check on their staff and their rooms, because for the price we paid, we expected a lot more.
